GUILTY FL - Megan Todt 42, Alek 13, Tyler 11, Zoe 4, & dog Breezy, murdered, Celebration, Jan 2020 #2

Creditors get creative when trying to reach you, they will call your spouse’s cell phone, send multiple mailings to any address that is remotely connected to you or your spouses name. It took a lot of work and deception on his part to keep Megan from knowing anything about their finances. I can’t imagine never opening my own mail.
Really good point.

MT wasn’t some 20 year old he was trying to impress and hold on to, worried she would leave him if he ran out of money. He knew her his whole life. She really loved him. They grew up together. You would think she would be aware of the family finances and that even if he was the sole family accountant, he would at least confide in her when things started to go south. What was his big secret? Why all of the secrecy? Why did he drive 2 hours west to Sarasota after killing them and leave his cell phone in a Starbucks!? Was he meeting someone? What was he hiding? I’d love to see that surveillance footage.

I recently spoke with a friend who lives up there and she suggested he might have been into something really bad and was being blackmailed. I thought of that theory early on. Drugs, blackmail, gambling, something. I still think there’s a lot more to it than just a guy who was really bad at bookkeeping. I also confirmed that several people up there have seen him at Mohegan Sun casino. How much he pissed away there tho is anyone’s guess.

That whole Sarasota trip is bizarre after the murders. And he supposedly flew back to CT after the murders, too at one time (seen at a pizza place where he frequented and supposedly appeared happy and normal).

Were his assets frozen during this time? He had paid off one legal issue, but 2 others loomed, and of course we know he was delinquent on his mortgage and was swimming in high-interest debt, not to mention he hadn't paid his employees in CT for a while and had the whole insurance fraud investigation closing in. You'd think his employees would have reached out to Megan personally. She used to work with him, so you'd think people would be hounding her in FL on her personal cell phone or FB. I know I would have if I wasn't getting paid and I knew the spouse.

Maybe AT needed money to disappear and credit companies were shutting him off, so he took the last bits from checking and savings and tried gambling as you suggested to make enough to disappear? The Sarasota Kennel Club is another thought. I don't think greyhounds race there anymore but they have poker tournaments and other gaming. Might as well stop for a $12 cup of coffee when that didn't pan out and return home to your family rotting.

So bizarre...all of it.

Really good point on the hounding spouse. I wonder if he cut her home phone off and they didn’t have her “new” cell number. But yeah social media is another way to reach people.

With regard to Sarasota. My guess is if he was gambling he would have stopped at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Tampa on his way there. It’s right on the way and the one in South Florida / Hollywood is my personal favorite. It is a beautiful casino and I assume the Tampa one is similar. It’s still another hour to Sarasota from Tampa tho, so there must have been something or someone there he went to see. Criminals have been known to leave their cell phone in public places with location services n cellular data turned on (for an alibi) and go back later to retrieve them, but I’m not so sure he was doing that, unless he wanted to throw cops off for a few hours. If so, why did he not go back to retrieve it. Maybe that was his initial intent, but he got so stressed out and discombobulated he forgot. I do think it is a very real possibility bc how often does someone forget their CELL PHONE!? I mean, how did he drive home without using the GPS for best route on 2 hour drive? Or anything else that we check out phones for on the regular.

Regarding the pizzeria: Is there confirmation that he actually was seen at CT pizzeria after he killed them? I never saw any. I think that may have been a rumor based on a comment in news from a pizzeria worker saying that AT frequented there. If there was confirmation that AT was there after killings, where did you see it? Thanks.

Will AT’s confession be admissible in court? And if so how will the defense be able to overcome something so damning?

Per Lauren Seabrook WFTV:

CELEBRATION FAMILY MURDERS: I just received the toxicology results for Megan, Alek, Tyler, and Zoe Todt. Investigators say their husband/father Anthony Todt confessed to killing them in their celebration home sometime around Christmas. Their bodies were found in January.

Megan - 5.02 mg/kg of diphenhydramine (Benadryl)
Alek - 6.687 mg/kg of diphenhydramine (Benadryl)
Tyler - 10.362 mg/kg of diphenhydramine (Benadryl)
Zoe - 2.724 mg/kg of diphenhydramine (Benadryl)

According to a local nurse, the converted Benadryl doses per each person’s body weight:

Megan - 235 mg
Alek - 267 mg
Tyler - 383 mg
Zoe - 37 mg

When officers arrested Anthony Todt, they say he downed Benadryl to harm himself and had to be hospitalized for a few days. Remember, the autopsies showed Megan was also stabbed twice, Alek was stabbed once, and Tyler was stabbed once. The medical examiner has not given his opinion on the cause of death yet. That is expected soon. I'll be speaking with the ME's office again in the morning and will update you as soon as I know more.

That's a lot of benadryl. 50 mg is an adult dosage. Link is from a .org medical site.

Diphenhydramine Dosage Table (eg, Benadryl) (Antihistamine)

How in the world does he get Megan to take 5x the normal adult dosage of benadryl? I can't imagine you can put it in something without that strong medicine taste coming through. Or maybe I'm thinking about something gross, thick and sweet like Nyquil. Anyone recall what Benadryl tastes like?

Good point. Probably made soup or something.

That's true. I'll call ANYONE to find a customer here at the bank I work at.

Liquid benadryl is easily disguised and comes in a kid's fruit (or maybe bubble gum) flavored syrup. By contrast- the WORST tasting medication I used to have to get my patients to take was a terribly bitter liquid steroid. I disguised it in pancake syrup and it worked every time.

Didn't consider that benadryl comes in tablet form, which I suppose could be ground up into anything, possibly dissolved in something hot. Apparently Tony told officers upon his arrest that he took benadryl pills, so one could assume he poisoned the family the same way.

There's actually a reddit thread that talks about what an overdose on this is like and it sounds awful. Hallucinations being the worst -- like a trip you can't wake up from.

Megan's dose was lower than the boys, which is odd, although she was so thin (and "supposedly" suffering from an illness already. Think the sister-in-law mentioned liver issues to 911 call (sounded like a guess on her part), and an overdose of this drug would seal the deal if true.

But, we do know that that all but Zoe had stab wounds. And if it takes 2-18 hours to overdose on benadryl, then that must have been quite a night for him waiting and watching the other three. Were they exhibiting seizures, vomiting, half-awake in hallucinating madness? One by one slicing their abdomens as each came to?

In his own warped mind, I'm sure he felt it was a labor of love...they're better off, hardly felt the slice wounds because they were so groggy.

It was a rumor, my bad. I tried finding the screen shots I read and can't even find those now.

Diphenydramine is considered quite safe because there's an enormous space between a therapeutic dose and a harmful dose. As @CSIDreamer already posted, none of them were anywhere close to a lethal dose. He probably was hoping it would kill them but then he had to stab them while they were unconscious.

Weird language syntex in this article... Looks like Todt was in court today - from what I can tell.

Anthony Todt, accused of killing family in Celebration, Florida, ordered held without bail - Gruntstuff

March 18, 2020

The man accused of killing his spouse, youngsters and pet canine in the Disney city of Celebration, Florida, was hauled earlier than a decide Thursday — because it emerged that the feds had been investigating him for well being care fraud.

Anthony Todt, 44, was silent at his first look in courtroom Thursday, nodding as Circuit Decide Margaret Schreiber ordered him held without bail throughout a short listening to that wrapped in lower than a minute, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

Here's what the court site has - which does not mention a hearing on 3/18, but does have an arraignment hearing on 3/12, which was waived.

Doesn't seem a bit quick for a trial already? Or am I just used to defendants dragging out the process....

4/9/2020 Entry
  • The Medical Examiner for District Nine in Osceola/Orange County released the official autopsy reports either today or yesterday.
  • The official cause of death was listed as "homicidal violence of unspecified means in association with diphenhydramine [Benedryl] toxicity"
  • The ME noted that the while 3 of the 4 members were stabbed, the stab wounds did not contribute to their death. (Wow - so I guess he stabbed just to make sure they were good and dead. What a great husband and Dad! *gag*)
  • When asked what exactly does "homicidal violence of unspecified means" actually mean, the ME choose to not comment any further.
  • The State of Florida will seek the Death Penalty for Anthony Todt
