It was nice to see that bored look OFF his face. Guilty! Justice for those innocent guys just enjoying hanging out together. I can’t even start to imagine how it has been for the survivors, friends & families.

Paz Quezada has tried to prepare for this day for more than a decade.

On Friday, the man convicted in March of killing her two sons and wounding four others in a 2010 shooting will finally be sentenced. Friday is also her birthday, and her only wish is one she has held onto since the night of the attack: that the man who tore her tight-knit family apart be put away for the rest of his life.

The former Florida ice cream man was found guilty of killing two and attempting to kill four others in a Thanksgiving 2010 revenge shooting ambush after his ice cream truck in was robbed for $12.

Judge Christopher Sabella handed down six life sentences to convicted murderer #MichaelKeetley on Friday.

Regardless of his sentencing, I think his defense tried really hard for him. And while the Judge did not accept it as grounds for a mistrial / new trial, the whole argument based on whether or not an “advocate” aka the Prosecution for the State can mislead, misrepresent, and/or misstate material facts - that can be and are contradicted by the evidence admitted in the case - in opening or closing statements. The State, in my opinion, careful response of how they “didn’t repeat that in closing” was interesting; she did admit “100%” she agrees that cross examination about the computer searches showed a discrepancy of what they said in opening and what the evidence actually was.

Interesting legal arguments no matter what one believes. Makes me want to go watch their opening again. JMOO.

ICE CREAM MAN MURDER TRIAL: VICTIM IMPACT STATEMENTS

The mother of two victims, brother of one victim, and a man who survived the shooting give impact statements ahead of the sentencing of Michael Keetley. Keetley was convicted in a Thanksgiving 2010 shooting that killed two and injured four. (5/26/23)

ICE CREAM MAN MURDER TRIAL: MICHAEL KEETLEY SENTENCED

Keetley was ordered to serve six life sentences, two without parole, for a Thanksgiving 2010 shooting that killed two and injured four. Prosecutors said the shooting was a revenge killing for an armed robbery on Keetley's ice cream truck. (5/26/23)

Keetley said nothing in the hearing. His attorneys said there was much he wished to say, but they’d advised him to stay silent. They plan to appeal his conviction. Keetley maintains his innocence.

Investigators assembled a conglomeration of largely circumstantial evidence. But the state’s case bore significant weaknesses, including inconsistent ballistic evidence, witnesses whose descriptions of the shooter varied, and procedural mistakes investigators made. Two surviving witnesses picked Keetley out of a photo lineup, but that was after word had spread in the community that he was the shooter.

Before the sentence was imposed Friday, defense attorney John Grant argued vigorously for the judge to grant a new trial. He focused on various pieces of evidence the jury saw and arguments the state made that he said should have been excluded.

The judge said the defense had argued the issues well, but declined to grant their request.

What does “Place of death: Yard” mean? Does this mean he was just found in a yard, or his own yard? Or does this mean something else?

If he was actually in his own yard, that is truly awful that it took so long to find him. :(

I appreciated that his attorneys mentioned they advised him to stay silent pending appeals. I feel like I don’t always see defense attorneys mention that and sometimes the Judge then makes a comment of defendant showing “no remorse”. If one believes they’re truly innocent, the act of showing remorse, at least genuine remorse for the crime they’re convicted of, seems very unlikely to be on display. It doesn’t help the victims’ families feel any better or get answers to the questions they asked but at least defense tries to shoulder the brunt of that blame by explaining that on the record.

MK looked bored while he was being sentenced. At one point he whispered to his lawyer (as judge was addressing him) which IMO showed disrespect. MK was worried about the “fines” the judge said he has to pay.
I’m glad it’s over for the victims & their families.
Bye Mr Rogers!
