The indifference by the State is shocking. And I don’t mean DCF. Why in the world is this case taking so long to go to trial?? It is sickening that the defendant has the right to hold so many people hostage, and I’m including anyone who plans to testify. Waiting, waiting, waiting all these years to go to court.

This court should feel ashamed of itself.

It looks like this is still a "go" today, but I see there is a Status hearing on 7/9/20, so I'm thinking that the trial on 6/15/20 is NOT going to go ahead....

Tuesday, May 19th:
*Status Hearing (@ 9:15am ET) – FL – Nubia Barahona (10) (missing Feb. 11, 2011, W. Palm Beach, found Feb. 14, 2011 soaked with chemicals in the back of her father’s truck along side Interstate 95 in Palm Beach County), (Victor (10) injured; had acid thrown on him; he was released from hospital 3/2/11) – only for *Jorge L. Barahona (43/now 52) (adopted father) arrested (2/12/11) & charged (3/7/11) with 8 felony counts of aggravated child abuse with great bodily harm, 8 felony counts of child neglect & attempted murder (Victor) & charged (3/7/11) with 1st degree murder. Plead not guilty. $1M bond. DA will seek DP.
Trial was set to begin on 4/6/20 reset for 6/15/20-might be cancelled.

10/8/19 Update: Jorge: Ex-Parte Motion for funds-granted. Both for status hearing on 11/5.
11/5/19 Update: Jorge defense motion to appoint expert & funds. For both: Next status hearing on 3/9/20. Motions hearing re attorney’s fee limit on 3/11/20. Trial hearing scheduled on 4/6/20.
2/26/20 Update: Hearing held. Defense asks for delay in trial. Since Carmen took a plea deal. Status hearing on 3/9 & motions hearing on 3/11 are cancelled. Next Plea hearing on 3/16. 3/15/20: Motions for trial continuance-granted. No Plea deal accepted. Next Status hearing on 3/26. Trial reset to 6/15/20.
3/26/20 Update: Status hearing on 3/26 has been rescheduled on 4/16/20. 4/12/20: Status hearing on 4/26 has been rescheduled due to the coronavirus to 5/19/20. 5/18/20: 27 subpoenas sent out. Status hearing set for 7/9/20 at 9am.

Plea deal gives her a life prison sentence in exchange for testimony against her husband. Sentencing has been deferred until she testifies against her husband as agreed. If she fails in this agreement, she will be facing a sentencing hearing before a jury. Sentencing set for 8/3/20 @ 9am.

Hello - I shall be leaving on a Holiday to California!! And won't be around WS for at least 2 weeks (9/18 thru 10/2). So am going to post the hearing/trial that is coming up while I am gone. As I said before, the State of Florida has absolutely no interest in this going to trial. That is why JB gets continuance after continuance.

And his court appointed attorney, gets trips paid for to, where was it? I forgot. The state has paid out way more money for the defense than ever normally budgeted. That, in and of itself, merits investigation.

Okay - now that his hearing has been set to September 9th - what is going to happen to Carmen's sentencing on 8/3/20 IF she is supposed to testify at his trial...

I've tried finding her in the court site, but coming up with a "closed" case for her. I searched using the the case #2011-CF-006237 in Miami-Dade County, but come up with Jorge's record which is closed - as I needed to use the letter 'B" after the case #. He comes. Then I tried the letter "C" for her, but coming up empty.

I was wondering if @mickey2942 - can you access Miami-Dade - and see IF Carmen's sentencing date has changed?

No, sorry, should have made that more clear, that information is from the Miami Dade county jail regarding Jorge Barahona. I couldn't access the court information.

This case just makes me angry. It is clear that the Barahona's have manipulated the judicial system and process to delay this as long as possible. Why even bother with the death penalty? This guy will string that out another 25 or 30 years.

I fear that in 25/30 the capital punishment won't exist anymore in this country ( and maybe worldwide...)
