On 27th September 1974 , 12 year old Virginia Helm vanished after going to a convenience store a block away from her home. Her body was found a month later, buried in a shallow grave. She had been shot in the head, and reports at the time say that an initial examination didn’t show signs of sexual assault. There is not much info on her case.
Her case must be related with the murder or disappearances of other 4 girls in the Jacksonville zone. Serial Killer Paul John Knowles confessed the murder of 2 of the girls.

If she was buried was there any dna found on her that could be tested now? Virginia aka Ginger was my cousin, she was killed before I was born but my mom was just telling me this story.

Some witnesses reported seeing a red compact vehicle.

This car would become important when, three days after she disappeared, a couple came upon a troubling scene. A red VW Bug was pulled over to the side of the road New Kings Road near the Nassau/Duval border. A couple approached to see if the man needed help.

The bag was collected to be processed for fingerprints in 1974, but now it could be tested for DNA.
In the backseat, they spotted a young girl, matching Virginia’s description, with her knees on the floorboards and her hands on the seat as if she was attempting to get up. Her pupils were dilated, she was looking back and forth rapidly as if she was scared, but she didn’t say anything. When the couple confronted the man, he took off in a rush leaving behind a bag that fell out of the car.

The body turned out to be Virginia Helm, the fourth girl who disappeared. She had been shot in the head.

“I had a little girl who at the time was about the same age, same size, same color hair - and so did my partner,” Parmenter said. “We were out there at 1, 2 o’clock in the morning, digging that little girl up with our bare hands to keep from causing any other harm to her body. As we were digging, he was on one side and I was on the other. We’d look up at each other every once in a while and we both knew what the other one was thinking: It could be ours.”
