What is known is that Ahmaud Arbery was shot and killed after a confrontation with two suspects. There are evidently two very different versions of what led to the confrontation and shooting:

Ahmaud Arbery case will go to grand jury - CNN

A. Ahmaud Arbery was jogging while black. He was then chased down and murdered pursuant to the racist "a black male is a suspected criminal" line of "thinking".

B. Arbery resembled a burglar who had struck the neighborhood in the past / was in the act of fleeing from an attempted burglary. He then attacked an individual who tried to stop him and was shot only after repeatedly trying to get control of a weapon.

It appears that even with the suspects own admission, the chase was initiated because Arbery simply peered into a home under construction. In Georgia, private citizens, can only make citizens arrests for felonies that they have exact knowledge of.

Thus, even giving credence to possibility "B", the suspects had no lawful ability to detain Arbery.

IMO, this case is vitally important to Georgia as the olde school notion that one class of citizens has extremely broad rights of "self defense" over other classes of citizens and that they have some kind of endowed arrest / command authority over this group needs to end.

In short, these two men need to be prosecuted..... .

*Preliminary Hearing for all (via video) (@ 9:30am ET) - GA – Ahmaud Marquez Arbery (25) (Feb. 23, 2020, shot while jogging in Satilla Shores neighborhood, Brunswick) - *Gregory Johns McMichael (64) & Travis James McMichael (34) (each) arrested (5/7/20) & charged (5/8/20) with felony murder & aggravated assault. Held without bond.
5/8/20 Update: Initial appearance for both. Gregory McMichael is charged with party to felony murder & aggravated assault. Gregory's son Travis McMichael is charged with felony murder & aggravated assault. Warrants for Gregory state he "aided and abetted" his son Travis in the murder of 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery on February 23. Both defendants appeared in court Friday, where Judge Wallace Harrell denied bond for each. Bond would have to be set in superior court, the judge said. Both men were read their rights. DA Tom Durden sending case to Grand Jury which doesn’t meet until after June 12th.
5/11/20 Update: New order will continue the suspension of all criminal & civil jury trials through June 12 and also bars courts from summoning & impaneling new trial & grand juries.
5/12/20 Update: Cobb DA Joyette M. Holmes announces that she has accepted Attorney General Chris Carr’s appointment of her to handle the prosecution in the killing of Arbery. 5/15/20: Defense attorneys Jason Sheffield & Robert Rubin for Travis McMichael. Defense attorneys Franklin Hogue & Laura Hogue for Gregory McMichael. Judge Timothy Walmsley, a Chatham County superior court judge was assigned to the Arbery murder case. All are scheduled to appear June 4 before Chief Magistrate Judge Wallace E. Harrell at the Glynn County Courthouse.

*William “Roddie” Bryan, Jr. (50) arrested & charged (5/21/20) with felony murder & criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment.
5/22/20 Update: initial appearance. No plea entered & no bond set. Bryan’s attorney Kevin Gough has filed several motions on behalf of his client to include a motion for a speedy trial, motion for bail without waiver of preliminary hearing, motion for relief from prejudicial and inflammatory statement and a motion for disclosure of search warrants and related documents. All are scheduled to appear June 4 before Chief Magistrate Judge Wallace E. Harrell at the Glynn County Courthouse. Another motion asks DA to enter a non-disclosure agreement with Arbery’s family to prevent facts of case from being reported in the media. Motion wants Arbery family members to be declared “defacto parties” in the case.
Court was installing computer screens that would allow the defendants to appear in court on video.

Goodness there is a LOT of clarifying detail being provided already in this testimony (it's 10:15 AM as I type this, 45 minutes into the hearing), regarding who called 911 (key item - it was NOT any of the defendants - they were NOT the first 911 contact that day, GM WAS the 2nd 911 call that day as TM and AA were physically engaged), how the 2 vehicles of the 3 defendants were actively working to intentionally direct the victim, etc. There will be a lot of data to unpack from this hearing. I am not going to be able to take notes on all of it but hoping there are some good MSM synopses afterwards.

Note: I did edit this at 10:23 to clarify that GM was the 2nd 911 call.

GBI agent: The shotgun used is a pump-action shotgun; it has to be pumped to eject the spent round and reload a fresh round between each firing. TM admitted firing the weapon 3 times. The first shot was a chest wound, per TM’s statement. AA was “saturated in blood” before the physical struggle begins.

GBI agent testifies that Bryan's car was trying to force Mr. Arbery into a ditch. Bryan says he thinks he might have hit Mr. Arbery. There was a handprint on the truck and white fibers on the top plastic bed and metal on the car near the back. Bryan said Mr. Arbery was trying to open his car door. There is more Bryan video.

Bryan joined them, admits to attempting to detain him, admits he used vehicle to redirect Mr. Arbery so he could not leave the neighborhood.

They were terrorizing and hunting him. Tried to trap him repeatedly.

Oh my goodness, they are truly monsters.

re Roddie: admits to joining the pursuit of AA, admits to trying to block AA and detain him several times prior to and on Holmes Rd.

He admits to attempting to "redirect" AA towards the M's,

MOO: His original stance as innocent witness bystander is toast (OT: boy do I miss my cow emojis)

quote of TM on crime scene per co-defendant Roddie: after AA was shot prior to LEOs arriving. TM stated "f*cking n****r"

I am not at all surprised by this revelation.
