Well, I've posted the quotes a few times. The lawyers statement can be found in an article by WTOC 11 and the statement he made is in the Washington Post. All of his statements are consistent with what he said in the incident reports back in February which I just posted up thread.

The Daily Beast did not quote him as far as I can tell. They just summarized what Barnhill claimed. Imo

Summaries can easily “turn into” quotes. I think what some people don’t seem to understand is that “quotations” in the news media aren’t always accurate for one reason or another. Both my husband and I have been misquoted in two different stories in two different small town papers about 40 years ago. In my husband’s case the misquote could have derailed teacher negotiations with his school district for a new salary and benefits package. In my case, I was quoted testifying under oath in court to something that I didn’t say. It wasn’t a big deal, but either the reporter wasn’t listening carefully and got mixed up or made it up. I don’t think reporters do this on purpose (except in some cases) but both incidents taught me not to insist that a quote by someone is written in stone if it is in print.

Like I said. It's what the accused BELIEVED at the moment that counts. And whether or not it was reasonable.
They never saw the video or spoke to the homeowner about it. They didn't even know each other. Apparently they just saw Arbery running by and suspected he was committing a crime, or had in the past. There was no justification for a citizens arrest using deadly force. Jmo

Yes, the Daily Beast did not even use quotes when they summarized Barnhills statements. I'm not sure how credible they are.

I do think the information about a burglary at the home under construction is inaccurate.

Barnhill also stated there was not enough probable cause to arrest the McMichaels, after more than two months.

Yet Vic Reynolds, the GBI Director, said that they hit the ground running and within 36 hours had enough probable cause to secure warrants for felony murder.

Imo

Wasn’t TM the first 911 caller? The guy that can clearly be seen in the surveillance video observing AA in the house?

I don't think TM was the first caller. According to that video from across the street AA went into the house around 2:08 and was in there for a couple of minutes according to the time stamp before that individual walked up Jones Rd. to the intersection. It's possible that AA saw that individual on the phone while he was watching him and decided to get out of Dodge. I believe that same individual ran back to his own home on Jones Rd and got on a bike and rode towards TM's home but then turned around and came back. I don't know if it was because he heard shots. I haven't synced up the time the second caller called 911 and the man on the bike returning.

Can you post the quote where he said that? In every statement I have read he denies that adamantly.

The only source I have seen that suggests he said he had fishing equipment stolen was the Daily Beast but it's included in a summary of the statement made by Barnhill, not English. He claims he never said that and the incident reports specifically state that nothing was ever taken. TIA.

Thanks for the clarification, @MsBetsy !!
This is why it takes a careful reading of the facts.

And also answers why Mr. English never made a police report of the 'stolen' items.

Gregory McMichael spent many years of his tenure with the District Attorneys Office without maintaining a proper certification to be a law enforcement officer.
Personnel records obtained by News4Jax show that in 2014,
McMichael faced suspension of his certification with the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council. Because of his deficit in training hours, McMichael had not had arrest powers since 2006.
McMichael had to turn in his badge, gun and keys and was not allowed to serve subpoenas or work in the field in any manner.
In a
letter to then POST Director Mitch Jones, Jackie Johnson thanked him for the council’s decision to grant the waiver to Mr. McMichael so that he could continue to serve as an investigator with her office.
McMichael had his certification suspended by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council in 2019 for again failing to maintain training, this time for 2018. McMichael was allowed to stay with the District Attorney’s Office as a staff liaison and report to work at the Camden County District attorney’s Office until his retirement in June 2019. McMichael was not allowed to carry a firearm, badge or operate any vehicle with lights, sirens or police radio.
In July/August of that year, he joined the Brunswick Police Department as a patrolman, but only worked there for one month.
McMichael then left law enforcement for more than five years, working in sales first for a distributor of beer and liquor, then selling boats.
In 1995, he resurfaced in law enforcement at the Glynn County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy bailiff for about three months, then moved over to the Brunswick Judicial Circuit in 1995 where he worked until he retired in 2019.

Retired DA investigator accused in Ahmaud Arbery’s death worked for years without arrest powers

@sds71 thank you for that extremely informative post with links.

so from 2006 thru part of 2014, 8 years in fact, GM had NO legal arrest powers because he had NOT fulfilled the requirements. Only after YEARS of working for the DA in that capacity was special dispensation from the POST (Peace Officer Standards Training Council) was that requirement WAIVED for GM.

And only after Jackie Johnson pleaded for it to be so through another of her investigators, Mark Melton.

How very embarrassing for Ms. Johnson. It's no wonder GM seems confused about his role, his powers and his authority during retirement. he apparently was given a bye during his employment as an LEO/investigator so why would he expect anything less as a retiree?

The more we learn the greater the stench around this entire DA office and specifically Jackie Johnson. Can't wait to hear and learn more about Barnhill and how ELSE he went out of his way to protect GM and why.

How do you hem in a runner with two vehicles?

Never said "Hem in", I said "Hem him up".

Hemmed up - inconvenience someone, hold them up, delay them.
How would two individuals in a truck 'hem up' a pedestrian?

I'm not in the businesses of "hemming up" people. So I wouldn't know.

How would you go about delaying someone or inconveniencing someone that was seemingly in a hurry to go somewhere?

I read they blocked the road with their vehicle. And he ran the other way. Between the two vehicles they blocked him 3 times, the 3rd time TMc got out of the truck with a shot gun and GMc situated himself in the truck bed with a handgun.

I wonder how many people he arrested in those eight years without the power to arrest? I think one of them may have been AA.

yep doing the math over here too.

The Brunswick News has reported Arbery was indicted for allegedly bringing a gun to a 2013 high school basketball game when he was 19.
Ahmaud Arbery: Suspect in killing was involved in prior investigation of 25-year-old - CNN

OMG I just found this info via Barnhill's letter to Carr as to why he feels charges should not be filed on the Ms:

“This family are not strangers to the local criminal justice system,” Barnhill wrote in his letter to Carr. “From best we can tell, Ahmauds older brother has gone to prison in the past and is currently in the Glynn jail, without bond, awaiting new felony prosecution. It also appears a cousin has been prosecuted by DA Johnson's office.”
EXCLUSIVE: Father of Brunswick shooter previously investigated victim

What in the actual . . . does AA's brother and a cousin have to do with his own right to be jogging without interference or murdered have to do with anything??? I am disgusted and flabbergasted. I can't wait for the FEDS to investigate the entire DA's office.
