"The I-TEAM learned Tuesday that Gregory McMichael spent many years of his tenure with the District Attorneys Office without maintaining a proper certification to be a law enforcement officer.

Personnel records obtained by News4Jax show that in 2014, McMichael faced suspension of his certification with the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council. Because of his deficit in training hours, McMichael had not had arrest powers since 2006.

McMichael had to turn in his badge, gun and keys and was not allowed to serve subpoenas or work in the field in any manner."

yep doing the math over here too.

The Brunswick News has reported Arbery was indicted for allegedly bringing a gun to a 2013 high school basketball game when he was 19.
Ahmaud Arbery: Suspect in killing was involved in prior investigation of 25-year-old - CNN

OMG I just found this info via Barnhill's letter to Carr as to why he feels charges should not be filed on the Ms:

“This family are not strangers to the local criminal justice system,” Barnhill wrote in his letter to Carr. “From best we can tell, Ahmauds older brother has gone to prison in the past and is currently in the Glynn jail, without bond, awaiting new felony prosecution. It also appears a cousin has been prosecuted by DA Johnson's office.”
EXCLUSIVE: Father of Brunswick shooter previously investigated victim

What in the actual . . . does AA's brother and a cousin have to do with his own right to be jogging without interference or murdered have to do with anything??? I am disgusted and flabbergasted. I can't wait for the FEDS to investigate the entire DA's office.
Prediction Opinion - The Feds will find nothing to prosecute the DA's Office over in this case.....moo

It is shocking and repulsive to hear that coming from a District Attorney!

This is a major issue in looking at the ethical behavior of the justice officers. It is so unfair and unfortunate but so common.

The thinking of:
He was in trouble before....he must be guilty of something now.
His brother or cousin was in trouble....he must be guilty of something now.
He did this...so he must have done that.

It promotes stereotypes and all kinds of isms. Those who subscribe to these beliefs often will tout that past behavior is predictive of future behavior, which can be true. But, it is not how the system of justice is supposed to work---presumed innocence is what many would want if the victim or accused was their loved one. I have my own bias-- I see these men as guilty but will wait until they have their day in court to close the book on them. Unfortunately, many victims of vigilante justice don't get justice in the legal system because they are smeared or a culture of fear is promoted which keeps people quiet about the crimes.

And so it goes, interestingly enough, this young man was presumed guilty and lay in the street like a dog while the shooters/killers were presumed innocent based on a presumption of guilt of the dead man. It makes no sense but works to keep a system of injustice going. This was the quick assessment of those who are supposed to be looking for justice for all.

Looks like the investigation into the D.A.'s office has been a long time coming:

Ahmaud Arbery murder raises long-standing issues with Glynn County DA’s handling of cases

"The Ahmaud Arbery murder case is bringing back some faces and agencies that have been the subject of Channel 2 Action News and Atlanta Journal-Constitution investigations over the years that have centered around corruption and misconduct investigations."
"For the past five years, we have done some deep reporting in the same place Arbery was murdered. It involves the same players, the same problems and now, growing outrage."

“When I first saw with this case happening in Glynn County, I immediately thought back to other cases where the DA’s office and police department collaborated a little too closely with each other to cover up for some of the officer’s misconduct,” attorney and legal analyst Esther Panitch said.

Good grief, it just gets worse.

"In a letter to then POST Director Mitch Jones, Jackie Johnson thanked him for the council’s decision to grant the waiver to Mr. McMichael so that he could continue to serve as an investigator with her office.

“This situation (not maintaining certification and training) has been a great embarrassment to me and to investigator McMichael. It has negatively impacted my office, and I have taken measures to ensure that this doesn’t happen again. Please accept my sincere apology,” wrote Johnson in 2014.

McMichael had his certification suspended by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council in 2019 for again failing to maintain training, this time for 2018."

Yes, it sure does get worse!

I can't even imagine how much more information concerning misconduct will come out of the G.B.I.'s investigation into these two District Attorneys and their offices.

Well, that explains a lot. Looks like MM was on shaky to no ground on his job all the way from 2014 until (sounds like early & kinda forced) retirement in 2019.

Having your boss be forced to say she's been embarassed by your negligence, and that it's hurt the office (even if that's a bit rich, given his boss's own abysmal "lapses" of ethics & judgement).........

Even worse- no badge! No flashing lights! Being explicitly forbidden to act as LE in any way whatsoever. Might make a man see burglars in every bush and an imaginary badge pinned on his T-shirt.

You've probably already discussed this but why would TM leave a firearm in his truck, and to add insult to injury leave the door unlocked? That's a huge problem here in Florida and I would think he could/should have been charged. No one should ever leave a gun in a vehicle.
I know it's not connected to this case, but what was he thinking?!

Was Mr. Arbery really arrested in 2018 for shoplifting ( a television set ????) and breaking his probation ? I can find no MSM links of this supposed arrest at the time........moo

Yes, it was mentioned earlier in the thread.
Can you imagine coming home to a place that is supposed to be safe, a sanctuary if you must.
And find out someone had violated your privacy like that and took what didn't belong to him?

I just couldn't imagine something so horrific.
I wonder if there were any children present when this happened?

The vehicle was apparently locked the nite before. GM had apparently move the vehicle for some unknown reason and did not lock the doors. I believe it was in a very narrow window that the gun was stolen that morning before TM found the empty holster.

I can find no details of this theft and arrest. I just figured that "shoplifting" meant from a business establishment......I just cannot find any MSM or LE Courts info on this shoplifting arrest..... I could care less about all the "emotions" surrounding all interested parties in this case. I am curious about the real lives and details of all the ones involved. The future trial and it's "by products" should be very interesting to observe......moo

Actually, iirc, he shoplifted the TV from a Walmart. I wonder if MM was uncertified during that particular investigation?

What in world is going on here?
The Judge has to be pointed out that there's another charge after the aggravated assault charge, then proceeds to read the exact same charge again?
Only to be reminded once again and has to have it POINTED out to him that there is a felony murder charge as well?

Good Lord.

Did you happen to catch when the next court date is from the video?

Perhaps the Judge didn't mention it because it will be in Superior Court. I think that's what he said but I found it difficult to hear the Judge speak at times.
