I think its okay to post, it is in MSM he is not considered a minor in the state of GA and he's arrested.

Thank you, glad they are preserved by the press. I am darned sure LE has all of the contents of his social sites as well. Never know what could come up at trial. In case he is depicted as a choirboy (sorry is my jaded by the CA and JA defense tactics showing?)

"I said...if you've got something to do with this little baby, you can't talk to me. I'm your auntie," said Obley. "He said 'Auntie, I don't even know the boy. I don't have anything to do with that.'"

That is the part that has me confused. So the 14 y/o didn't know DE and Debra Obley didn't know DE. But DE was with the 14 y/o when he shot Antonio, then they went to the 14 y/o's aunt's mother's house ( I don't want to presume Grandma). Then DB picked up the boys from there and drove them elsewhere.

My thoughts are....possibly the 14 y/o had a very poor lapse in judgement accompanying this unknown 17 y/o down the street and inviting him to his aunt's mom's house? He unwittingly was involved in an alleged attempted robbery and murder? Or auntie is trying to keep 14 y/o out of trouble by putting the blame on the 17 y/o.

Hmmmm...I was thinking the 14yo was referring to the boy who was shot???

Good point. Maybe he was claiming he didn't know Antonio? He must have known DE, otherwise why would his aunt be picking DE and a 14 year old from her mother's house?

Well that actually makes sense. See this is why I post my ridiculous thoughts. It's still an odd thing to say...do 14 y/o typically know many 1 y/o's? I can't imagine them having too many play dates together. ;)

Maybe the defense will be that the trigger was pulled by accident ... that the gun just fired ... etc

Well, that MIGHT have been a good defense, if the idiot hadn't said the the mother , " give me your freakin $ or I'll shoot your baby."

I am a local in this town. There are Victorian houses all the way down Union Street from Gloucester St to 4th street (South)

1 block west of Union are the Section 8 low income apartment housing, very close to the inter coastal waterway. East of Ellis Street is Dixville, and you definately do not go that way by mistake, it is also Section 8 Low income housing.

There is a lot of gang activity in our town as well as drugs. I have asked several agencies the reason for gangs and so many drugs for a small town and the answer is we are located between 2 large cities, Savannah Georgia and Jacksonville Florida.

This murder has scared our little town.

How many of you have told a panhandler that you didn't have money? I have on more than one occassion.

From what I have read LS, the father, was very angry with the mother for not giving the boys her purse. He was even jailed for a short time because of his anger.

How many of you have given your purse to someone who asked for money? I have NOT, but now I will question if a person will put out a gun and shoot me or any child who is with me.

I have heard from someone in the Brunswick area that local police have not acknowledged that you have gangs. Do you know if that is true?

Could Tom Sublett's murder have been a robbery gone wrong? I don't think it was suicide.

Per CNN just now the 14yo is actually a 15yo 8th grader. Only spoke "no sir" when the judge asked if he had any procedural questions in court. According to family they were not allowed in court and it was filled with media. 15yo has told family that he does not know the 17yo (DE) and that DE threatened to kill him too.

The local PD know of gang activity here and from what I understand there is a unit that deals directly with the gangs. Because this is such a touristy area, I am sure they try to keep the mention of gang activity from getting out too far.

Tom Sublet, I do think it was a suicide. He was having financial problems and had been looking for another job. This is a good ole boy town, it is all in who you know, so it was no secret he was having financial problems. He was a very good man and never heard anyone speak ill of him. But being a small town, the job market is very limited, and the Real Estate Market is not doing very well.

I see what you are all saying but I don't think he was saying he didn't know the baby. Why would his aunt even think he did? Why would he think she was asking if he knew that baby, she was asking if he was involved in the shooting.

I still think he trying to claim he didn't know DE. He was distancing from DE and the crime. It is understood that he did not know the 13 month old who was shot.

I think he was referring to Elkins, whose odd behavior spurred the question from the aunt about whether 14 yr old was involved in the shooting.

thank you Sega-Sleuth, so glad to have your local perspective. Glad you've joined the thread.

The Glynn County detective's division spent hours following up on the tip and eventually arrested a 14-year-old suspect. The boy's statements led them to take 17-year-old De'Marquise Elkins into custody.

*So the 14 year old led them to the 17 year old.
I figured as much.
I'm scared for the 14 year olds family. Gang retaliation could be in the near future if the 17 year old is a member.

I have told panhandlers that I don't have money except for the one time that a man outside a convenience store pleaded with me for a dollar so that he could by a beer before the store stopped selling it in 5 minutes. I guess I admired his honesty. Most have some sort of sob story to go along with their request when, in fact, they just want a drink. As far as the purse thing goes, I would never second guess someone with a gun pointed to my baby's head. He would get everything I had, no matter how little. I would even escort them to my bank and empty my account. Everyone is different though.

I think the reluctance to admit that Brunswick has a significant gang presence is due to the fact that we rely a lot on tourism in this area. Even in articles related to this tragedy it is reported that this sort of thing doesn't happen here when it does.

I think that if Sublett did commit suicide it was a result of some sort of blackmail perpetrated on him.
