"It was last July when Watkins Funeral Home general manager Sylvania Watkins got a call from the family of Jessica Ross after her baby boy, Treveon Taylor Jr., died during childbirth.

“After we retrieved the body from Southern Regional, I was called downstairs to come and see what they had brought back from the hospital and that’s when I noticed the baby’s head was not attached to the body,” Watkins recalled to Channel 2′s Candace McCowan. “This is what raised the red flag, to receive this baby from the hospital with that condition, that was the first red flag. Actually, this baby should’ve come from the medical examiner from the jump, so that’s how I ended up calling the medical examiner to see if it was reported.”

According to the Clayton County Medical Examiner’s Office, the child died from “a fracture-dislocation with complete transection, upper cervical spine and spinal cord,” WSB-TV reported.

Roderick Edmond, an attorney for Ross and the infant’s father, Treveon Isaiah Taylor Sr., filed a lawsuit against the facility in August, alleging there were multiple “missteps” taken during her labor.

The lawsuit alleges that the infant, named Treveon Isaiah Taylor Jr., became stuck approximately 10 hours into Ross’ labor, WSB reported. The child was allegedly decapitated when the doctor attempted to extricate him “for several hours,” the lawsuit stated.

The suit alleges that doctors “pulled on the baby’s head and neck so hard and manipulated them so hard, that the bones in the baby’s skull, head and neck were broken,” according to the television station.

Just saw this -- still SMH.
This could certainly be big trouble for the hospital and the doc who delivered that child. We'll see how it goes.
I have never encountered something like this. So, so, sad.

Parents Whose Baby Was Decapitated During Birth Didn't Know What Happened to Child for 3 Days: Lawyer (Exclusive)

Attorneys for the parents say they were notified by the funeral home, not the hospital, about the decapitation

The couple whose baby was decapitated during birth were not told about the decapitation until three days after their son’s death, the family’s attorneys tell PEOPLE.
Jessica Ross went into labor on July 9, 2023 and her delivery began early on the morning of July 10 at Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, Ga.. During the delivery, the shoulder of the baby, Treveon Isaiah Taylor Jr., became stuck in the vaginal canal, creating a medical emergency known as shoulder dystocia.
The newborn died during the delivery, and on Tuesday, the Clayton County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled that the cause of death was homicide, the result of a complete severing of the baby’s upper cervical spine.

The complaint also alleges that hospital officials encouraged the parents to cremate the baby’s remains and told them that an autopsy “was not needed,” which the couple believes was an attempt to destroy evidence.

The Clayton County Medical Examiner’s Office found the immediate cause of the baby’s death was a broken neck and said human action was to blame, according to an office statement distributed by attorneys at a news conference.

In the medical examiner’s office press release, the office says it was notified of the decapitated baby by the funeral home, rather than the hospital.

The boy’s parents, Jessica Ross and Treveon Isaiah Taylor Sr., say Dr. Tracey St. Julian delayed a surgical procedure and failed to seek help quickly when the baby got stuck during delivery. Instead, they say she applied excessive force to the baby’s head and neck.

Wow, this young couple has endured so much. I'm glad they got some justice for the actions of the autopsy doctor they hired who caused them additional grief and pain when they sought his help.

Good that was for sure a pretty egregious case of adding insult to injury. He victimized them even as he was supposed to be assisting them.

Horrendous behavior by sooo many medical providers. Emotional distress endured by parents is beyond comprehension. Heartbreaking on so many levels.
