GA GA - John Dax Dunn, 40, Coweta Co, 13 Feb 2020

  • #41
Something must have happened for family to report him missing so soon. Only two days after he left seems quick if they knew he was off on a trip. It states no one has had contact with him since the 13th, but maybe he left a note or something? I feel like something caused the family to act so swiftly. Is his phone also missing?
All MOO, all very mysterious. Hoping he turns up safe.

I was really hopeful/excited John had been found because I just tried to click on the “Find John Jax Dunn” Facebook page and it said the link was broken, but I guess John’s still missing?
Link is working :)

@TatianaBarbie

please forgive me if I’ve overlooked it, but I cannot find a link that shows the family filed a missing person report on Feb 15. If you get a chance, do you mind sharing the link? :)

I do see where he was captured on video at the gas station using his card on Feb 15...

Thank you, @mlhenn, for double checking that info in my time line! I just reread through all the links that we have on this thread, and I couldn't find any stated date for when the missing report was filed. The first report was to the Coweta County Sheriff's Office, and the first post for John being missing was on Feb 21, 2020:

The Find John "Dax" Dunn FB page (which is now back up) had their first post on Feb 22, 2020, and the missing report from the Coweta County Sheriff's Office, dated Feb 21, 2020 is one of the 1st posts.

I could have sworn I read it somewhere, but I think what I read was this, from the Levy County Sheriff's Office update:

". . .The LCSO Patrol and Investigations Division have been diligently searching in the Inglis/Yankeetown for any evidence of Mr. Dunn since February 15th. . ."

I must have read it as, "searching since Feb 15th," which I know see is incorrect. The LCSO was, on Mar 6, trying to find evidence of John dating back to Feb 15th.

I'll update the timeline later today to reflect the Feb 21st date as the presumed date of the missing person report.

The dates in this case confuse me- and some of the details as well. Some reports said fam had no idea he was leaving & other reports said it was a planned fishing trip. I thought the timing odd as well- do most married fathers plan their man-cave weekend getaway during Valentine’s Day? The 14th was on a Friday this year. Many couples & kids celebrate in some little way. The proximity to Valentine’s Day made me wonder if he got into a spat with his wife. How long was this trip planned? Or was it planned at all? Did anyone know he was going? Where he was going? Why he was going? Why hasn’t someone- fam or LE- clarified this info?!

Or am I missing something?

I agree that the conflicting reports are confusing, but seemingly typical for missing persons cases. Frustrating, for sure.

WRT Valentine's Day, not all couples celebrate the holiday. But we don't know if that was the case for "Dax" and his wife, so we can only speculate. Like you, I wish we had some answers to the very good questions you posed.

I just found this interesting article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC is the online news) about John losing weight, from 2 years ago. It talks about John's job, but doesn't mention much about his family, other than saying he has a wife and 2 children:

John Michael Dunn, 37, of Newnan lost 50 pounds

ETA: This post on the "Find John "Dax" Dunn" page on FB states John has 4 children, ages 23, 17, 15 and 10.

Wow- great digging! Paraphrasing: Before he lost the 50 lbs, his triglycerides were up to 1500 & his doc said he better do something or he’d be dead within 6 years. So with diet, exercise & weight loss, he got healthy again. Said his kids were a motivating factor- wants to see them grow up.

So... no, this isn’t a guy who’d up & leave his fam. Something happened. Maybe he had other health issues. Heart attack while kayaking, boat tipped & he drowned. No idea how the truck plays into that- or if it does. Moo

Updated timeline showing the date of the first published missing report, and deleted the incorrect earlier date of the missing report:

* The convenience store in Inglis, FL has been called Marathon gas station, and Circle K gas station. Upon checking google maps (called Kangaroo Express on 2015 Google Street View), and google, the store is now called Circle K, and uses Marathon gas. In addition, US-19 is also called US-95. County Road 40 is also called Highway 40, and Follow That Dream Pkwy.

This is most excellent! And perfectly shows why this info just doesn’t add up. He leaves on the 14th, expected back on the 18th, but they report him missing on the 15th- three days before he’s due back? And he rents a hotel on the 15th, for a fishing trip, but doesn’t rent a kayak until the 17th- when he’s due back at work the next day, the 18th?

What was he doing from the 15th to the 17th in the hotel? If he was fishing, where are the bait & ice purchases? Dinners? Was he paying cash for those items?

I keep thinking there are many more details family and/or LE are holding back. To me this seems like an affair. Perhaps that ended very badly. Idk.

I believe they reported him missing Feb 21 & @TatianaBarbie possibly forgot to take the Feb 14 date out when she updated the timeline.

I do agree that this case is “information overload” and has us all confused!

Still- if he’s due back the 18th why wait till the 21st to report him missing. I just keep thinking marriage issue. Idk. Moo

Maybe this third time will be correct--I swear I deleted the Feb 15th date, and it showed up out of date order. I don't know how that happened, but I have again deleted the incorrect Feb 15th report date:

Still confused why wait till 3 days to report- after he was due back, when no one’s heard from him since the 13th. Still points to marital spat imho.

  • #55
@JudgeJoe kinda sounds like a spat to me as well. I get that everyone does things differently but, seems to me, if traveling one stays in contact with family members - just to ensure being safe. That’s me.

Following Missing Person cases for 10 years here’s what I would do if someone in my family went missing. I would spill the beans on anything and everything going on. No matter if it was an embarrassing situation or not. It’s more important to find the Missing Person IMO. I would give all information on debit or credit card expenditures, including total amounts spent and WHERE the cards were used. Anything and everything can help locate a missing person.

All of this is unusual but the real stumper is the truck. IMO.

My hope is that he will be found safe and sound. BUT it’s been way too long. IMO.

Is this recovery, in Crystal River last week, potentially connected to this case? Skeletal remains found in Crystal River, deputies say
Great find, @Mountain Misst, and certainly a possibility. I'm still hoping that John is alive, but if the remains are his, he can return to his family.

That location where the skeletal remains where found is between Inglis, FL and Crystal River, FL. Here is the map:

upload_2020-4-14_2-34-54.png

The article said the remains were found in a wooded area off Dunnellon Road (marked as the blue route) between US 19 and North Citrus Avenue (CR 495). I hope the remains are identified quickly.

Are we sure the weight loss guy is the same guy? Someone posted a Facebook with that name on the missing page and they said it wasn't him.

To me, the biggest clue here is no contact. If this was foul play, he would have had regular contact until something happened. You don't leave, miss work, get gas, check into hotels, rent kayaks and not check into home if everything is OK. So that really only leaves 2 options, for me- self harm or needing time away. I sadly think it will be #1. I really hope I'm wrong. He seems like a great dude.

Hey, Dax... if you happen to be reading... you are very obviously cared about. Get back for your kids. Everything else can be worked out. Its OK to need a break, but just check in so they don't worry.

Wouldn't 2 months be too soon to be skeletonised?
