Good question. I think at first the FBI became involved because it was believed to be a possible kidnapping of Ms D, a federal offense. At that time, a $20,000 reward was being offered by FBI. I believe that murder is a state offense. Do not know why after Ms. D's body was found that they would offer a $10,000 reward. Goodness of their hearts?
What does TIA mean? Is it this? LOL! Love it!

I think it was the neighbors next to the empty lot, just going by memory but IIRC those yardmen or landscapers were some if not the first to be interviewed, or that we heard of

Foxfire: Excellent info! The Rogers case has been on my mind in regards to the case as well. IIRC, Oba Chandler tied the blocks around their necks and threw them alive one by one. Can you imagine the horror! The Angels and Demons article was one of the best true crime articles I have ever read. The main reason the Rogers case has been on my mind is that there was a lady who was a neighbor of Oba Chandler who contacted law authorities several times but was ignored. Even when they put up a billboard with a sample of the murderer's handwriting and she had a work proposal in the murderer's handwriting, she was ignored. (This was not emphasized in the Angels and Demons article) Sadly, it has been proved in 2014 that there was another victim (Ivelisse Berrios-Beguerisse) that Chandler killed in 1990 after the lady had contacted LE and been ignored.

If the lady, who said the guy creeped her out the first time she met him and she feared him greatly, had not been ignored, this additional victim might not have been also horrifically murdered. BTW, Oba Chandler was executed in 2011 still proclaiming his innocence. Who knows how many other victims of his there were? The reason this has been on my mind in regards to the D case is the frankly arrogant attitude and behavior of the sheriff. I so hope he is not ignoring valuable info in this case, but IMO he is guarding this case and not releasing info because he wants to get the credit all for himself and to prove a point that the office of sheriff is still viable. Thank you True Crime Lover. Yes, TCL, having empathy for others, I can imagine the horror.. I can also only imagine the pleasure realized by the sadistic psychopathic sexual predator/serial killer Oba Chandler..

The Rogers murder investigation was the first time Billboards were utilized in missing/murdered person's investigations by LE in the USA. Although the awareness the Billboards provided brought in the critical tip needed to identify the perp/suspect. This valuable tip/information's significance was overlooked by investigators and kept getting placed deeper and deeper in the high stack of citizen's tips. Guess, a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, huh? The American public is analogous to a security camera across the landscape of the USA. This valuable investigative resource is often squandered in missing/murdered person's investigations. Many, if not most of the m/m cases where this resource is not utilized, go unsolved for years or eventually grow cold, imo..

DAMIFINO, Sheriff Sills has been dropping hints for ten months now. I'm not sure why Sheriff Sills waited this long to reveal that two cinder blocks were used to anchor Mrs D's body in lake oconee. IMO, this information is not exactly a smoking gun or even significant enough to use as hold back evidence in the investigation.

I remember this, Backwoods - and I was so hoping something would come of it. It seems if there was some information from phones or financial records, they would have it by now. This case has me so frustrated. I've been reading another one in MS and everybody is on that case: MBI, FBI, ATF, US Attorney's office, etc. I am losing my patience with SS. Will be anxious to see if Zuri gets any info from the psychic, any tidbit is welcome news to me.

Guess we all have different theories on the seemingly cold case of the Dermond abduction/decapitation/murders, dancinunderthemoon.
Ironically, I spent the day yesterday at the GPSTC in Forsyth, GA, attending a GA Smoke Divers reunion<The Georgia Public Safety Training Center is a comprehensive training complex for use by Georgia state and local public safety related government units>. Many of the GSD members in attendance were from counties adjacent to Putnam; Rockdale, Jasper, etc. Had a couple of interesting conversations about the Dermond murders with a few firefighters from the Putnam county surrounding areas. One of the firefighters doubles as an investigator for one of the adjacent counties and said that he felt that it was very well planned..

I don't think the remains have been positively IDed yet, but LE is speculating it might be a man reported missing in 2007 -- they're not saying a name. I read that a skull and some torso bones were found, and that they have been determined to be male.
