I'm not at all familiar with Ikaria but in Greek Katafygi and Katafygio are basically the same word.

ETA: The location should be correct.

5k from where she was staying, which is well within running distance. But, would a jogger be running on rugged terrain when alone? That doesn't ring true to me.

Could she have been abducted while on the run?

This case is not over until we learn if her cellphone (the one that kept switching off and back on in the past couple of days) was found with her. Other than that, she was clearly extremely athletic but may have overestimated her climbing abilities. She did have a nosebleed and possibly a fight with her bf the night before so maybe she was not feeling her best.

ETA: Her body was found down a gorge.

ETA: A rock/stone was on top of her body. Νεκρή εντοπίστηκε η 35χρονη αστροφυσικός στην Ικαρία |thetoc.gr

(HLN Live is so behind this morning, as they are reporting her story now as still missing.)

Accident version: She fell when climbing as a boulder/stone she was gripping came loose and when she landed, the rock fell on top of her.

Hinky-meter version: Her phone conversation was described as her going slow on rough terrain to later explain why she would be found in a gorge with a rock on top of her.

Natalie's body was found in a ravine by a volunteer firefighter. Police said they are not willing to make a formal statement until the body is removed from an "inaccessible ravine" and formally identified.

Local media also reports that homicide detectives from the Greek capital of Athens have arrived in Ikaria and have taken over the case.

"The body of a missing British astrophysicist has been discovered at the bottom of a ravine, Greek media has reported...

According to the national broadcaster Ant1 News, her body was discovered by a volunteer firefighter today.

She was lying half-a-mile from the hotel in the village of Kerame where she and her 38-year-old boyfriend had been staying.

Specialist murder detectives earlier travelled to Ikaria to take over the case, according to Greek media."

Natalie Christopher: Missing British astrophysicist found dead on Greek island | Daily Mail Online

A half mile is well within normal jogging distance.

Here is the Google translation of the Ant1 News article:
"The case of the 35-year-old British astrophysicist who disappeared from Ikaria last Monday morning was tragic.

According to the latest information from the police, her body was found by ground-based investigative forces in a 20-meter-deep ravine in a difficult mountainous area of Kerame St. Kirikos, near the room she had rented with her partner.

Natalie was recognized by her clothes before being officially identified. In fact, reports indicate that a rock fell off the woman's shoulder as she fell into the gorge.

Reportedly, the geo tagging service used information to find the corpse , which detected the cellphone signal in the ravine. So it was a matter of time for the special rescue teams to reach the point where the unfortunate Natalie was found dead.

Last night, he had flown to Ikaria by helicopter provided by the army, a unit of the ELAS Intelligence Management Division (DIDAP), with special geolocation equipment, to track the position of the young woman's cell phone.

Police experts were surprised when Natalie's cellphone was re-signaled yesterday by an Ikaria Furnace antenna, opposite the Keramei district of Agios Kirikos, where investigations were ongoing. Immediately, an attempt was made by a mobile phone company, which did not bear fruit, so the transition to Ikaria on the Didap step was deemed necessary.

Her Cypriot partner had also requested through ANT1 to locate Google and Facebook where her partner was located by her mobile phone brand.

The British disappearance thriller was further complicated when police investigations into the couple's living room revealed blood stains . Blood stains were found on the woman's pillow as well as on tissue paper in the bathroom. According to her partner's testimony, Natalie's nose was opened on Sunday night, which went to the toilet where she used the napkins to stop running."

in this article it says 1 km from the hotel and it looked like she “had been stoned” this is from google translate so of course it’s not to be taken exactly but I’m wondering if someone who knows the language well can weigh in?

For us Americans: She was found in a 20 meter ravine. 20 meters = 65.6 feet (the height of several stories).

I'm a native Greek speaker. The correct translation is definitely not "stoned" as in "drugged". A heavy stone was found on top of her.

I'm relieved she has been found relatively quickly. It can get hot on the Greek Islands after all.
Now prayers for some answers for those who loved her.

"Stoned" also has the meaning in English of being punished/killed/injured by having stones thrown at a person. I'm assuming this was not what the scene looked like - but rather that her body was found under a stone.

I think she just fell, taking some rocks down with her.

What's the elevation there compared to where she lives/what she's used to?

Yes, I am aware of that, but the original text mentions a (single) piece of rock found on top of her.

Thinking of the single piece of rock and wondering if the couple was Jewish? speculation.

Can you elaborate? I'm not Jewish or familiar with their customs.
