HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Murder trial defendant Hailey Dandurand took the stand Thursday for cross-examination and seemed to contradict her earlier statements to the jury.

In her direct testimony earlier this week, Dandurand claimed her then-boyfriend Stephen Brown was solely responsible for the grisly 2017 killing of Telma Boinvile at a Pupukea vacation rental.

Dandurand also admitted to tying a bag around Boinville’s head after Brown repeatedly struck the victim with a hammer.

Both the prosecution and defense have rested their cases. Closing arguments are expected Friday morning.

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Jurors began deliberations Friday in the trial against Hailey Dandurand, the second suspect charged in a grisly 2017 murder on Oahu’s North Shore.

In closing arguments, city Deputy Prosecutor Scott Bell said testimony and evidence prove Dandurand was an accomplice in the murder of Telma Boinville.

But prosecutors argued Dandurand gave false statements on the stand when she claimed Brown punched her in the face multiple times the day of the murder.

They showed the jury her mugshot, which showed no obvious signs she had been hit.

The defense argued that Dandurand is guilty of burglary, but never intended to kill Boinville, kidnap her daughter or steal a truck.

“Everything Hailey did that night, everything Hailey did that day, was to buy time so that she can hopefully live,” said Dandurand’s attorney, Barry Sooalo.

If Dandurand is convicted of murder, she would face a life sentence with a chance of parole.

Her ex-boyfriend is due to be sentenced next month.

HONOLULU (KITV4) -- The jury has made its decision in a 2017 murder case that rocked the North Shore. They recommended that 26-year-old Hailey Dandurand spend life in prison with the possibility of parole for killing Telma Boinville.

The judge will ultimately decide on Dandurand's sentence.
 
I believe today is just a hearing since the jury already recommended a life sentence.

Monday, August 7th:
*Trial continues (Day 12) (Hearing only) (@ 8:30am Hawaiian-Aleutian Time) - HI - Telma Boinville (51) (Dec. 6, 2017, Oahu) *Hailey Kai Dandurand (20/now 25) arrested (12/13/17), charged & arraigned (12/18/17) with 2nd degree murder, 4 counts kidnapping , 1st degree burglary, 1 count of 2nd degree unauthorized entry into motor vehicle & 1 count of felony unauthorized possession of confidential personal information. Plead not guilty. Bond $500K. Bond reduction denied on 8/25/20. Held without bond after guilty verdict.
Telma’s 8 yr. old daughter was found bound & gagged with duct tape.
Trial began with jury selection on 7/10/23. Jury selection ended on 7/17/23. Juror #9 excused & alternate #1 in his place.
Trial began on 7/18/23. State rested their case on 7/25/23. Defense rested their case on 7/27/23.
Jury started deliberations on 7/28/23 (~2 hours). 7/31/23: 7 hours & 15 minutes. 8/1/23: 1 hours & 40 minutes. Total Jury deliberations = ~10 hours. Found guilty of all charges. 1/24/23 Tuesday, Sentencing Phase Day 2: Jury continues deliberations on sentencing phase. On Tuesday, a jury ruled the extended sentence should be considered in the case, saying he posed a continued risk to the public. A judge will decide in May whether North Shore killer Stephen Brown should spent the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole. Brown will be back in court on 5/10/23 for formal sentencing.
