Suspect in gruesome Pupukea murder puts in special request ahead of trial

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - One of the suspects in a horrifying 2017 murder on Oahu’s North Shore is asking for a bail reduction and a separate trial from her co-defendant.

Court documents outline graphic details about her murder.

It says a hammer, meat tenderizer, baseball bat, kitchen knife, folding knife and machete were found near Boinville’s body and that it was “nearly impossible … to count the number of distinct injuries inflicted upon her head, neck, torso, upper and lower extremities.”

It also says the Honolulu Medical Examiner determined that none of the injuries were inflicted after her death.

But ahead of the trial, Dandurand’s attorney is asking for her bail to be reduced from $500,000 to $100,000 and is also asking for a separate trial from Brown.

A motion filed by her attorney states, “Defendant may pursue one of more of the following defenses: choice of evils, PTSD, and battered spouse defense.”

It asks the judge to reduce her bail and let her live with her mother in Kaneohe.

But the prosecutor’s opposition to the release says the address they provided doesn't exist.

The trial is set for July, and a status conference hearing is set for Wednesday at 10 a.m.

Wonder "what" the Judge decided....

Smirking, laughing. These two deserve the death penalty if found guilty, IMO. No conscience = no limit to the crimes.

Monday, July 29th:
*Call Calendar Hearing for both (@ 10:30am Hawaiian-Aleutian Time) - HI - Telma Boinville (51) (Dec. 6, 2017, Oahu) - *Stephen Brown (23) & Hailey Kai Dandurand (20) arrested (12/13/17), charged & arraigned (12/18/17) with 2nd degree murder, 2 counts kidnapping & 1st degree burglary. Both plead not guilty. SB bail $1M, KD bail $500K.
Telma’s 8 yr old daughter was found bound & gagged with duct tape.
SB also plead not guilty to 4th degree criminal property charge for allegedly kicking in window out of police vehicle while being transported to police station; HK also plead not guilty to 2nd degree unauthorized entry into motor vehicle & unauthorized possession of confidential personal info; police found Boinville's bank card in her pocket.
Trial starts 7/29/19. Trial has been postponed 6 times.
They were supposed to go to trial in 2/19/18, then postponed to 7/23/18, then postponed to 10/22/18 & again postponed to 1/28/19.
8/19/18 Update: Pretrial hearing 10/16, trial scheduled for 10/22.
10/17/18 Update: Defense asks for a continuance, need more time to prepare with new discovery received. No objections from State. Next Pretrial & Motions hearing on 12/31, Calendar Call on 1/22/19 & trial will start 1/28/19.
1/22/19 Update: Both Defense attorneys ask for continuance, State has no objection. Continuance granted. Deadline for Pretrial Motions is now 2/25/19. Next Call Calendar on 3/19. Trial is set for 3/25/19.
3/19/19 Update: Defense motion to continue trial-granted. Next Status hearing on 5/15. Motions deadline 6/3. Call Calendar on 6/25. Trial begins 7/1. 5/15/19: Next Call Calendar hearing on 6/25.
