''The police and the Public Prosecution Service (OM) want to start as soon as possible - probably in January - with a new targeted search in the cold case surrounding the disappearance of Tanja Groen. The Noordhollands Dagblad writes this on Wednesday after inquiring with emeritus professor of legal psychology Peter van Koppen, who is closely involved in the research.''

Mother pleas for information on 25th anniversary of daughter's disappearance

''Mother pleas for information on 25th anniversary of daughter's disappearance

Exactly 25 years ago today, 18-year-old student Tanja Groen disappeared without a trace in Maastricht. Even after all this time, her mother Corrie Groen hopes that someone will come forward with information about what happened to her youngest daughter. "You never know if someone will open their mouth", she said to RTL Nieuws.

Around midnight on August 31st, 1993, first year student Tanja left a party at her student association in Maastricht to cycle to her room in nearby Gronsveld. She never arrived there. No sign of her, not even her bicycle, was ever found.

On the evening that Tanya disappeared, she still spoke to her mother over the phone. "She called to say that she was coming home a day later than planned, because that evening and on Thursday there were still activities at the association. She told about her orientation week, but the conversation was short, because she was late", Corrie said to RTL. On Friday Corrie went to the train station in Schagen to pick up her daughter, but she never arrived. A short time later, fellow students called and told her Tanja had not been seen since Tuesday.

"In the beginning you do nothing but cry. You panic", Corrie said. "I can not understand how someone just disappears. It's bizarre, impossible. But there weren't any cellphones then, and computers were just becoming popular." After Tanja's disappearance, there were a few tips, but nothing that led anywhere. "Nothing has been found, nothing at all", Corrie said to the broadcaster. "Every now and again a tip comes in at the cold case team. You think: could it be? And then it's nothing again. Every time. It remains hard."

Corrie describes her daughter as a very happy girl. "We never had any problems with her during puberty. She was also very smart", she said. Tanja would have been 43 years old now. "Sometimes I wonder if she would have had a boyfriend, if she would've been married or had children. But we assume that she is no longer alive, after all these years." Corrie's granddaughter is now older than Tanja was when she disappeared.

Corrie and her husband are still hoping for the golden tip, that will give them some sign about what happened to their daughter. "You hope that something is found, an arm or a leg. Then you have something at least. Now there is no body and you can never process it", she said. They hope that someone will come forward. "That's the only thing we want. So that we can finally get some rest."

Looks to be around a half hour ride. I'm sure they checked the different water areas on the way to Gronsveld, and will probably check those again.

Re not finding the bicycle, if someone did something to her unless it was a special bike of some kind don't you think they probably kept it knowing that there are so many there it wouldn't be recognized?

Tanja Groen foundation collects €1m for 'golden tip off' - DutchNews.nl
''July 14, 2021
'' A foundation set up by crime journalist Peter R de Vries to help solve the disappearance of 18-year-old Tanja Groen ,who vanished nearly 30 years ago, has collected €1m via crowdfunding. Tanja Groen, a first year health sciences student, vanished on August 31, 1993 on her way home from a party at the Circumflex student society in the Maastricht. She left the party around midnight to cycle home to her lodgings in Gronsveld but was not seen again''.

''De Vries, who was shot last Tuesday moments after leaving at television studio in Amsterdam where he had talked about the case, is chairman of the foundation, and became Tanja Groen’s parents’ only remaining hope of ever solving the case. It is the highest amount ever to be paid for information leading to the solution of a case in the Netherlands but, according to De Vries, a large amount is the only way to encourage people to come forward and force a breakthrough in the case. ‘This is a dream come true and so significant against the background of what happened to Peter’, board member Simon Vuyk told Nu.nl.''

From this 2012 article DPG Media Privacy Gate

On Sunday, a diving team searched the Maas between Maastricht and Gronsveld for the second time within a week, led by a former detective. This happened on the indication of some tips from psychics, Limburg media reported. These led to the retrieval of a bicycle that may have belonged to Groen on Sunday.

The police won't say anything more about it.

No traces of missing Tanja Groen found, search is completed
''According to a spokeswoman for the Public Prosecution Service, the reason for the search is eyewitness statements, both recent and from longer ago. “The Strabrechtse Heide is very often mentioned in the investigation,” said this spokeswoman. “In recent witness statements too.”

On Tuesday, Peter R de Vries already tempered expectations. De Vries follows the search on behalf of the family of the missing girl. “This search is an attempt, a possibility that we want to rule out,” said De Vries. He warned against high expectations. “First see, then believe.”

According to him, the search is based on statements by one Wim S., a murderer from neighboring Geldrop. De Vries does not see much in it. “It’s just one of the scenarios. However, there is a lot that can be done about it.”

In January 2020, the police searched in vain in a grave in a cemetery in Heugem near Maastricht.''

New initiatives in search of missing student Tanja Groen announced - Netherlands News Live

Crime reporter Peter R. de Vries announced during a meeting on Wednesday “a number of special and new initiatives” in the search for Tanja Groen, who has been missing since 1993. The judiciary is also present at the press conference, she goes together with De Vries in the search for the Maastricht student.

''Last week, the young woman was searched again, on the Strabrechtse Heide in North Brabant, but again in vain. Statements in the investigation file suggested the possibility that the girl was buried in a certain part of the moor, near a small fen.''

Well, they've pulled out a bicycle from the river, but there must be so many in there, as bicycles are so popular in the Netherlands towns.
Also, it must be very rusty and looking almost like junk.....how will they even be able to tell if it was hers?

I'm hoping they'll find bones, Tanja's bones, in there and then at least her dear mother will have some closure.

New search for Tanja in the same area, this time more wider:

Free University is now preparing a search. All kinds of experts, from Swedish biologists to a geographical profiler, have contributed their ideas.

"There must be searched with sniffer dogs, among other things. Where somewhere on the Strabrechtse Heide? Van Koppen keeps that to himself for a while: “We still have to determine the search area precisely. Moreover, you must of course prevent curious people from getting in the way of the research.

But there was another location that kept popping up: the Strabrechtse Heide. That doesn't seem logical at first. The nature reserve between Geldrop and Heeze is located seventy kilometers from Maastricht, the place where Tanja Groen disappeared. The fact that the search is taking place here has everything to do with the convicted murderer Wim S. "

He’s the most nototious SK of Belgium, with a lot of victims. There are a lot of rumours/theories about him.

This year there was a renewed try to get info about Tanja, with the Belgian journalist Farouk, because Tanja was a case Peter R De Vries’ was working very hard on & they wanted to honour him & his work for her parents.

To who doesn’t know Marc Dutroux:

A piece from it.

Police and justice are investigating the possible involvement of serial killer Marc Dutroux in the disappearance of Tanja Groen. The Dutch student disappeared in 1993 in Maastricht, not far from the border with Belgium. The Dutch crime reporter Peter R. de Vries collected 1 million euros through crowdfunding for those who could give the golden tip, but for the time being without result.

A request for legal assistance has been submitted in Belgium. Justice asks to compare the unknown female DNA found in houses and delivery vans of Dutroux with that of Groen. The results will be sent to the Public Prosecution Service in Limburg as soon as possible, says attorney general Jean-Baptiste Andries of the public prosecutor's office in Liège.

Investigations have already been carried out. The cold case team of the Dutch Limburg police spoke to various witnesses. In addition, it is being examined whether facts and circumstances surrounding Groen's disappearance can be linked to Dutroux. His method, in which he pulled girls with bicycles into a van, could fit in with Groen's disappearance.

“According to De Limburger, there are various reasons to conduct more research into the possible involvement of Dutroux…

For example, Dutroux came to Maastricht or the surrounding area in the early 1990s to buy drugs. Furthermore, the child killer would have had a contact person in Maastricht and a road map was found in one of his homes on which Maastricht is circled.“

BBM — Onderzoek naar mogelijke rol Dutroux bij verdwijning Tanja Groen

Was wondering,if the results of the DNA test was know, but it seems, that the Public Prosecution Service in Maastricht, who put in a request for legal assistance — Belgium took 2.5 months,so no results will be know, this year…but more likely, in the course of January.

“At the beginning of October, it was announced that female DNA material, would be investigated,if it’s Tanja’s,that is found in Dutroux homes and delivery vans ….”
