ZA says he doesn't have a violent past---forgetting the shooting incident with his mother and threats to his grandfather. I don't think we learned anything new, besides he is delusional about his own criminal record. I still haven't heard any evidence--besides people he said threatening things to during this--that determined his guilt. But in a circumstantial case, you probably won't.

Judge said no new trail for ZA. But there will be other appeals.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A judge said the man convicted of killing Holly Bobo will not have a new trial for her murder.
[.....]
Adams’ appellate lawyer said Jason Autry admitted to concocting the entire story in his cell at the jail while reviewing discovery. He just "recreated his day and added Holly to it all to get him out of jail at the express guidance from his attorney at the time."

But, as I originally reported, for the appeal to be successful, Autry would have to prove he lied at trial.

Adams will remain in prison. But there will be more appeals.

And.... just to keep my notes straight - I shall go ahead & post this - so I can shorten it up a bit also!

Friday, March 21st:
*Hearing (@ am CT) - TN - Holly Lynn Bobo (20) (missing April 13, 2011; found Sept. 7, 2014) – *Zacharry Rye Adams (27 @ time of crime/30/now 41) arrested & charged (3/11/14) & arraigned (6/4/14) with 1st degree murder, aggravated kidnapping & aggravated rape. Plead not guilty. DA will seek DP. Hardin County
Found GUILTY (11/22/17) of 8 counts after 3 ½ hours of deliberations. Received 25 years for kidnapping, 25 years for rape & LWOP for murder one. 11/9/17: The first motion for a new trial has been filed citing the court erred in not granting Adams' motion for a change of venue & that the evidence was not sufficient for a verdict of guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
Appeal case: Circuit Court Judge J. Brent Bradberry. Prosecutor DA General Jennifer Nichols. Defense attorney Douglas Bates.

Court info from 2/26/20 thru 2/28/24 reference post #644 here:

4/17/24 Update: Appeal: Adams filed two petitions. “Mr. Adams, through counsel, filed & amended petition for post conviction relief, and a petition for writ of error coram nobis,” said Judge Bradberry. The second petition mean that Adams believes that there are facts that would have changed his judgment, but were unknown to the court at the time of judgment. This is presumably referring to Jason Autry recanting his testimony that led ultimately led to Adams’ conviction. "I need to have a further hearing on the state’s motion to dismiss the petition for writ of error coram nobis,” said Judge Bradberry. Judge Bradberry said the court & the parties involved, came to an agreement on the exhibits that were sealed. The next court date is scheduled for 6/14/24 at 10am.
6/14/24 Update: Assistant DA Jennifer Nichols, who also was the trial prosecutor, said the case has already been “thoroughly litigated.” Adams has not provided new, specific evidence that Autry’s testimony was false beyond “unsworn blanket statements,” Nichols wrote in court documents. Nichols said Adams’ petition must be supported by sworn affidavits. Autry’s statements were presented to the court only in a video interview, which was sealed from the public. Citing prior case law, Nichols wrote that recanted testimony is “looked upon with distrust.” Nichols also said Adams would have been convicted even without Autry’s testimony because other trial witnesses said Adams made “incriminating admissions” about his involvement in Bobo’s death. “Jason Autry was just one piece,” Nichols told Circuit Court Judge J. Brent Bradberry. 6/14/24 Update: The hearing Friday regarded a post conviction matter, filed by Adams, concerning the trial that convicted him to a life sentence, plus 50 years for the kidnapping, rape, and murder of Holly Bobo in 2011. Adams is seeking a new trial based on what he alleges to be new evidence. His attorney spoke on two main claims for the newly discovered evidence. One of those being Jason Autry changing his story and a potential new testimony of alleged witness, Lisa Caroll. This prompted the State to file a motion to dismiss Adams’ petition that could grant him a new trial. Judge Bradberry said he will rule later on whether to grant the state’s motion to dismiss the case without an evidentiary hearing.
9/13/24 Update: A judge said the man convicted of killing Holly Bobo will not have a new trial for her murder. Adams’ appellate lawyer said Jason Autry admitted to concocting the entire story in his cell at the jail while reviewing discovery. He just "recreated his day & added Holly to it all to get him out of jail at the express guidance from his attorney at the time." But, as I originally reported, for the appeal to be successful, Autry would have to prove he lied at trial. Adams will remain in prison. But there will be more appeals. Appeal denied.
3/21/25 Update: Adams is appealing his conviction with the hopes of being granted a new trial following his co-defendant, Jason Autry recanting his testimony — the testimony that solely got Adams convicted to life without the possibility of parole. Adams appeared with his lawyer Doug Bates before Honorable Judge Brent Bradberry at Hardin County Circuit Court in Savannah. Friday, the court granted a motion to appoint council for Jason Autry. Among other things discussed were whether or not Katie Spirko, the licensed neuropsychologist who video recorded a conversation in prison with Autry about his testimony, could be used as a witness in a retrial. Adams lawyers says Spirko will not be a witness if there is a retrial. The state says they would not call her as a witness either because they feel she used her neuropsychology degree to get in the prisons & argues her credibility as an expert. Following the court hearing arguments on the motions Judge Brent Bradberry ordered, the rest of the hearing sealed. Now we wait for a decision to be released regarding if Adams will receive a new trial.
*Jason Autry (43/36 @ time of crime) charged with 1st degree murder, aggravated rape & aggravated kidnapping. Case will be heard after Dylan’s is thru about June. JA case will not be heard until after Dylan's case in about June of 2018; but DA Hagerman said (on 1/23/18) the state will handle Zach Adams’ motion for a new trial before moving forward with Autry.
4/13/18 update: going over plea deal. 8/23/19 Update: Jason Autry, the third and final defendant accused of murdering Holly Bobo has finished a federal prison sentence for a different crime. But he'll remain in prison for now -- waiting to see if a plea deal will set him free. Before he was arrested in the murder of Bobo, Autry was in prison on a federal gun crime. His eight year sentence on that crime is up. Autry's served his federal time, but remains locked up without bond still awaiting trial, but that trial won't happen. That's because Autry brokered a plea deal for his testimony against Adams. But before any release there's the matter of Zach Adam's appeal. But it may not be until late next year when the three state appellate court judges finally hear the appeal. Any plea deal won't kick in until the legal process is complete. 9/11/20: Hearing on 9/14/20. 1/29/24 Update: Autry has recanted his testimony against Adams.
*John Dylan Adams – Adams plead guilty (1/22/18) to facilitation of first-degree murder for 15 yrs, especially aggravated kidnapping at 35 years to run concurrent. Adams sentenced to 35 years total.

1 The claim JA has made, where he says he made up all his testimony and used discovery to tailor it to be a perfect fit (to convict the others using the limited evidence the state had) is the same thing many of us trial watchers thought at the time. It was too neat, offering perfect support for a really weak case otherwise.
2 My personal belief, however, was that JA was far from innocent re HB - in fact, I thought he was the primary culprit, using his story-telling as a way to point the finger elsewhere, and he was never held liable at all because his story lined up perfectly, leading to convictions for others! (He's imprisoned now on different charges IIUC.)
3 BTW, he has lots of incentive to be telling a story here, because he's trying to get out of jail now by telling it. IIUC, they had him locked up for a few years while the HB trials and appeals played out, and then they apparently let him go when his testimony was no longer needed. But part of the deal for testimony iiuc (not really well reported, so ...) was a sentence of time served only for what he said he did, but provided he didnt get another conviction. However, the TBI paid close attention once he got out, got him in a weapons violation, and he got hit for that crime PLUS the prior one he admitted to. So now he wants to un-admit it all. Of course.
4 I would hope his recanting (whether believed or not!) would serve to promptly void out whatever sentence reduction (or free pass) he was given (which was presumably done so in exchange for the truth). I also would put him on trial to sentence him on the strongest perjury penalty they have, with the idea he would hopefully be hit with some sort of 3-strikes enhancement for a repeat felon. And how can he plead not guilty?
5 Under no circumstances should he be released imo. He needs to be locked up for good, somehow. He's a really bad dude, doing evil at every turn, and this is one more example (whether he's now telling the truth or not).
6 Again, I really think HE personally killed HB. Whether the other 2 were involved or not, I'm not sure, but if so I think their roles were quite exaggerated by him.

This case is such a travesty of justice. I just watched the majority of the trial and judge McGinley was an absolute disgrace in it. Horribly biased even to a naked eye. These chumps were obviously not good people, but you have to be out of it to think these junkies who are barely stable or capable of stringing a single sentence managed to pull something like this off and leaving next to no evidence. To me it's obviously Terry Britt as everything in this case matches perfectly. His past, penchant for young attractive blonde women, the description Clint gave of the killer and his voice, his incriminating statements, the road the killer took, his good understanding of the layout of the environment, the movitations of the killer (obviously main one being rape). Either that or some alien came from an outer planet and abducted her.

The blatant corruption in this case is mind-boggling. Whatever Zach's flaws are, he is obviously innocent of this and Holly doesn't deserve her real killer to walk free and unbothered. I hope Zach as well finally sees justice and sues for this absurd case of "justice".

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld Autry's sentence on Thursday. Autry, 50, pleaded guilty to three counts of being a felon in possession of guns and ammunition in November 2022.
Before he was convicted on those gun charges, Autry served a eight-year prison sentence for his role in the kidnapping, rape, and murder of Holly Bobo, a nursing student who disappeared from her home in Parsons. Bobo's remains were found more than three years later

Jason Wayne Autry

The Sixth Circuit court upheld the sentence on Thursday and said that Autry had a criminal past, including aggravated assault, drug trafficking, burglary, active membership in the violent Aryan Nation gang, and admitted participation in Bobo’s abduction and murder.

Reports said Autry was violent towards his partners and family members, committed a racially-motivated assault, and was involved in violent altercations and drug trafficking while serving prison sentences and during pre-trial detention
