Hope gets 15 years for drug trafficking...which is good because she wasn't going to do boot camp.

taken from article linked above:
The prosecution played an audio recording in court of a jail conversation Sykes had with her mother. They claimed it proved her lack of remorse for the crime.

This made me chuckle...If they had to bleep out the curse words it was probably a very short tape

snip~Hope Sykes, a cousin of Ronald Cummings, received a minimum mandatory sentence of 15 years in prison after pleading no contest to a drug trafficking charge. She also faces $250,000 in fines.

The prosecution played an audio recording in court of a jail conversation Sykes had with her mother. They claimed it proved her lack of remorse for the crime.

Sykes was among five people, including Ronald and Misty Cummings, Hank Croslin Jr., and Donna Broch, who were arrested in January on the drug charges resulting from a month-long undercover investigation in Putnam County.~ end

I suppose the "not guilty" plea wasn't working for her today. Was this a jury trial do we know?

Who determines the sentence?

Wow! The prosecution played the tape that so many of us were outraged about how this girl spoke to her mother.

She waived a trial in favor of a plea. The judge determines the sentence, based on the State (prosecution's) recommendation.

The article doesn't mention anything about her upstanding character witness Ronald Cummings. I wonder if he was in the courtroom and what he could have said.

above it says she plead no contest.....how come the court docket says entered a plea of not guilty?

Who determines the sentence?

I think the judge determined the sentence since she already pleaded no contest to the charge. This is why there was no jury, this was to sentence her. Can you imagine how hardened this girl will possibly be when she is returned to society? I cringe....

Am I correct in remembering that Ronald and Misty asked for a jury trial......or no?

Please God....let us WS members have access to the tape of the next phone call Hope makes from within her prison walls.... Amen

This one talks about RC:

http://www.gainesville.com/article/...Cummings-cousin-gets-15-years-for-trafficking

Ronald Cummings, her cousin, was on the witness list and was in the courtroom on Tuesday. But he was not called to testify.

So, she got 15 years. WOW - think they are sending their message? She was only charged with ONE count! And RC got to witness the whole thang.

I bet it is only a matter of minutes before all of them (in both families and even the ones inside the jail) know what went down in the courtroom... Oh to be a fly on the wall.
