if she was only drug seeking wouldnt she have left after she got the script?
Yes I would think so but, we don't really have the whole story in my opinion.

I didnt know she was given a script, that must tell them that she was really in pain and further investigations required.Yes I would think so but, we don't really have the whole story in my opinion.
Recent scandals have caused the hospital to lose its national accreditation and federal funding, close its trauma center and shut its programs to train aspiring physician specialists.Yes I would think so but, we don't really have the whole story in my opinion.
The police who arrested her are also part of the puzzle, when they say she was unresponsive, did they attempt to take her back into the hospital, if not, why. The more I think about this the more I am sure there was neglect committed by the hospital, the hospital staff, the police. Someone has to be accountable, sounds like a lot of buck passing to me.Recent scandals have caused the hospital to lose its national accreditation and federal funding, close its trauma center and shut its programs to train aspiring physician specialists.
County and state authorities are now investigating the May 8 death of Edith Isabel Rodriguez at Martin Luther King Jr.-Harbor Hospital, formerly called King/Drew, where several patients have died under questionable circumstances since 2003.

the fact she was a addict is a peice of the puzzle. the hospitals history is a part as well.
Craig Harvey, coroner's office chief of investigations, said the initial report to his agency said a woman walked into the emergency room, collapsed and died. Only days later did the coroner learn Rodriguez was in custody. Results from her autopsy were pending. The police who arrested her are also part of the puzzle, when they say she was unresponsive, did they attempt to take her back into the hospital, if not, why. I had the impression the police were called to take her way and when they ran a check on her they found out that she had outstanding warrants for her arrest, so they have put her in a wheelchair to take her away after she received a script and after she was writhing on the floor in pain, she should have been left at the hospital and further tests and examinations conducted to ascertain how sick she was.Craig Harvey, coroner's office chief of investigations, said the initial report to his agency said a woman walked into the emergency room, collapsed and died. i do wonder why the initial report did not mention she was in custody. on the other hand the police are picking her up at a hospital that says she is fine.
let me just say i know you are playing "devils advocate" here i ty for giving us a point of view from some1 who has been there.I am an RN and thought I would just play the devils advocate here. Before I do though let me say that I do not agree with how this was handled but, there are two sides to this story
that's how i read it as well. yes they should have had doctors examine her again. i am sure that is policy and should have been followed. i just figure cops got there and her boyfriend say she needs help. then the cop talks to the nurse and she says we already saw her she is fine and a drug addict. maybe if the police had followed policy then she might have lived.I had the impression the police were called to take her way and when they ran a check on her they found out that she had outstanding warrants for her arrest, so they have put her in a wheelchair to take her away after she received a script and after she was writhing on the floor in pain, she should have been left at the hospital and further tests and examinations conducted to ascertain how sick she was.

do you think this could be a case of burn out? like a teacher that has seen so much she just stops caring.

I totally agree White Rain and I congratulate you on your strength and willpower to no longer be an addict.I don't care if she was a drug addict, she still needed care and didn't get it. Let me play devil's advocate for the drug-addicted here.
As I have said before about 2 years I was addicted to meth. BUT, I was NOT what people percieve a drug addict to be...I was clean, did make-up everyday, have all of my teeth, and they are pretty, straight and white, I had a job/house, I did not steal from anyplace/anyone, didn't sell my body to get dope, etc...
Was I a criminal? Yes, I broke the law. Yes, I was a criminal. Taking drugs cost me alot of things in the end...but I was STILL a person, and IF I needed care, I would expect to have gotten it.
Not all drug addicts are semi-decent. There are PLENTY of addicts out there that do sell their bodies, their kids, steal from any and everyone...but they STILL deserve help if they are dying.

first this is not aimed at you sleuthin. u said you would never treat a patient wrongly and i have no reason to doubt it.Sure it could. FWIW I worked L&D for 10 years. It is another high intensity enviorment. From personal experience I know that when you are very busy
with active labor patients and one of those "frequent fliers" comes in with the same complaints (basically the normal pregnancy stuff) the hair tends to stand up on the back of your neck. I say that but, I can promise you that I never ever made a patient feel that I wish she were not there.

when i was 19 i got married and got pregnant not long after. at 20 i was 6 and 1/2 months pregnant. i went to l&d saying something did not feel right. the baby did not move much any more. the nurse put me on a monitor and left. 1 hr later the doctor came in and said i was fine. he said the nurse would be right in. the nurse came in and told me i could go. i started to cry and swore something did not feel right. she spoke to the doctor again and said "if we give u a excuse from work for a few days would it help?" i should have fought. i should have demanded more test. another doctor. i was young and trusted them. i took 3 days off and stayed in bed. for the next 2 weeks the baby did not move often. then the baby did not move at all. 2 weeks to the day from my first trip i returned swearing something was wrong. i saw the nurse roll her eyes but they still put me on the monitor. 7months and 3 days pregnant as figured by my due date is the day they told me my son was dead.
my point. its your body. if you feel something is wrong fight!! this woman did that and it still cost her a life.
ty you are very kind. it has been 12 years and i have made as much peace with it as i ever will. You are absolutely right always fight is you believe something wrong. No one knows your body like you do. I am so sorry for the loss of your baby. I believe that is one of the most painful experiences in life. Bless You!
thank you for your sympathy. so what if the doctor refuses to do the test? you are not homeless. you are not dying. you go to another hospital. she did not have time to go anywhere. proof is she died before she ever got off the property. she did the right thing and the hospital and police failed her.So sorry Sherri79 that you lost your baby. When I visit my doctor or the hospital I always make sure I get my point across and the relevant tests, X rays, etc are done. I have a great doctor, he now asks me what I think should be done, even though I am not medically trained, commonsense kicks in, and I make sure I ask for tests that rule out any major illnesses with the symptoms I present to the doctor, he is only to willing to refer me to a specialist or tests that are required.
We do know our own bodies, and if you think there is something not quite right, 9 out of 10 times there is something wrong. If your not happy with a diagnosis, get a second opinion, you must trust your own instincts.
