Montgomery Ward has been out of business since 2001. Also, I don't know all that much about sneaker/shoe culture, but weren't Pumas more popular in the 80s and 90s? Maybe these remains are from that era?

Seems like Montgomery Ward is still making sales via the internet so I wouldn't exclude anyone based on that alone.

So, depending on where the remains were found off of the trail, it's approximately 10 or less miles from the property Mort resided at. So, definitely a possibility these remains are his.

Ok, a few things I noted,

First, the Sherborn detective handling the case is the same one who took over the case and jump started it a few years ago, James Godhino. He also commented on this thread a few years ago. This is the second or third time in the last few years where in conjunction with an article have reached out to the public for assistance.

Second, the description of her clothing sounded familiar. "Her co-workers told investigators she was wearing a blue vest-style blouse, blue jeans, white sneakers and was carrying a gray duffel bag." I thought I read previously the "blue vest style blouse" was her work uniform. She was not wearing this when she left the restaurant and she put this in the gray duffel bag.

Finally, I wish they would mention what a few of those 'information gaps" are.

Far away from WV, but same type of description other than the jacket. It stated it was September meaning a coat would be needed.

About 9 miles but Jefferson County Sheriff Dept says it’s not him
Do you have a link? I haven't seen that info. Highly disappointing if it's not him.

That style of jacket looks older to me, like 80s-ish. Montgomery Ward stopped producing their own branded clothing a long time ago, before they went defunct in 2001. The current online iteration is not the original company and they don't make MW-label clothing. I have a feeling these remains could be someone who died pre-2000.

This guy went missing in June. Seems unlikely he’d be wearing a winter coat?

I wouldn't describe it as a winter coat per se. You'd want a medium-weight coat like that for cool nights even in the middle of summer if you were out hiking the AT, for example. However with Puma high-top sneakers and no real outdoor gear/clothing, I'm not getting a lot of hiker vibes from these remains.

Does anyone know more about the specific area these remains were found? Is this close to any roads, homeless camps, etc?

Some additional thoughts on Earl Distance being a potential match:

- The UID's size 10 shoes would be proportionate for Distance's listed height of 6'.

- Distance's description mentions two-toned red sweatpants and a red jacket. Perhaps it was a matching set. The UID was found in a two-toned red jacket.

- Harper's Ferry is essentially due west of Distance's Baltimore home, just over an hour's drive, mostly a straight shot along I-70. Very plausible he could've ended up there somehow.
