Tropical Storm Michael was almost a hurricane early Monday (Oct. 8) and is expected to reach Category 2 or stronger as it churns over the Gulf of Mexico in the next couple of days.

The center projects the storm will hit somewhere in the Florida panhandle on Wednesday or early Thursday.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott issued a state of emergency Sunday, warning those living in counties in his state's Panhandle and Big Bend area to brace for the hurricane.

Tropical Storm Michael could become Cat 3 hurricane in Gulf of Mexico

Hurricane Michael is currently a Category 1 storm as it enters the Gulf of Mexico and nears Florida's Panhandle. The storm now has maximum sustained winds of 75 mph. But the forecast indicates Michael may be a Category 3 hurricane -- with winds from 111 to 129 mph -- when it strikes.

Live updates: Hurricane Michael nears Florida - CNN

Gov. Rick Scott called on 500 members of the Florida National Guard to assist with preparations and planning ahead of the hurricane's landfall.

Our daughter and family from SC had to come south for a week to our home due to the last hurricane.

Now our oldest grandaughter..who just had a baby daughter born on Oct. 6th is having to prepare to evacuate since she and her hubby lives right on the Gulf coast on the beach.

Our oldest daughter who also has a home on the beach not far from our grandaughter is also preparing to evacuate.

They will come inland until its over.

Stay safe everyone. I am praying for all who may be affected.

I havent checked our local radar lately but I wonder if we may get some spinoff from Michael.

It hasn't rained here lately but all morning the wind has picked up where the tree branches are swirling in a circular rotation. . Which is always so scary to me then it gets very still and starts again.

Now the wind gusts are even higher and its pouring rain and very dark.

It's been cloudy all day here on the Suncoast. We'll probably see some rain from Michael, going by the charts above...

Keeping my eye on this one. We don't have to worry about flooding where I live as we are on a hill away from water, but the winds scare me. Even though we are several hours from the ocean Opal did a lot of damage here back in her day.
Photo Vault: Hurricane Opal struck Georgia 20 years ago this week

(This is an old article btw. )
