And another one on the horizon......

If it grows in strength, it could become Tropical Storm Nicole.

I do NOT have time for this nonsense Mother Nature! My garden is in and I have plant babies. Now go away and leave me & the rest of us alone!

The bigger story is the area north of Puerto Rico that now has a 90% chance to develop into a tropical or subtropical storm, now with most of the major forecast models projecting a potential hurricane approaching the Bahamas and Florida on top of it, forecast advisories are very likely to begin at least late today on this system. For local information please check officials and local media. It may be very close to Florida late Wednesday night or Early Thursday morning.

This system is likely going to a be a large system, with a large wind field because of strong pressure gradients with a high to the north, which will likely translate into a lot of coastal erosion and flooding along the east coast of Florida and north, potentially up to North Carolina. Beaches will likely be very dangerous for currents into the week. Rainfall from this area in Puerto Rico has brought flooding conditions there.

Is NASA going to have to roll Artimis back to the garage again?

Headed out to my garden to be sure my plant babies are staked and tied for the upcoming wind. I may be in Sarasota but the breeze has already started.

My aunt, uncle, plus my brother and sisterinlaw who are visiting from Maine, are all on the east coast in Barefoot Bay just south of Melbourne. They've got everything tied down or brought in. This will be their first hurricane as we typically don't get them this late in the season. I tried to impress upon them that its the flooding, not the wind that causes the most damage. But they know they're welcome to evacuate here if they need to.

Overnight, the National Hurricane Center nudged its predicted track north toward Melbourne, moving Miami-Dade and Broward out of the cone of uncertainty, but Nicole’s wind field is already nearly the size of the entire state, so its effects will be felt throughout Florida starting as early as Wednesday.

You and your family are in my prayers tonight and tomorrow. I'm glad it's "only" a Cat 1 and not stronger.

I was really tired last night so I crashed at 9:30pm after I checked in with my family in Barefoot Bay (Sebastian, FL). They had their hurricane shutters up, everything brought inside that could be, other things tied down. They had charged their electronics, had a new puzzle to put together and stocked up on snacks.

I read where the center of Hurr Nicole came in right below them by less than 20 miles. That means they were in the upper right quadrant that has the most severe weather. The storm surge is my concern even tho they swear they're not in a flood zone. I haven't heard from them yet. I'm sure after sunrise they'll check in.

I've been awake since 3:30am listening to the rain here. The wind has picked up. I checked my garden one last time at dusk and had one small oak tree branch down. It was an old dead branch not a live fresh one. I harvested some buttercrunch lettuce so it didn't get pounded by the rain. I'm enjoying the temperature drop to 69 degrees.

The storm struck just south of Vero Beach with winds of 75 mph before weakening to a tropical storm shortly after......

I think it’s coming your way this afternoon. Lots of steady rain but hopefully not severe winds in your area.

I’m not sure where you are, but north of Tampa steady winds howling all night. It’s died down some this morning but still gusts. There is a pane of glass loose in my sliding door and it’s been rattling all morning (reminding me I shouldn’t procrastinate fixing things).

I know some of you are wondering “What’s a tropical storm like?”
It’s like a 6lb Morkie shaking like a leaf, attached to you in a baby carrier so he doesn’t have an aneurysm from the big scary wind noise. Fun times.

I'm in the West Palm area. We received several inches of rain. Statewide there are minimal power outages and flooding. I've seen non-named storms do more damage.

It’s arriving here in SE AL. The wind has been with us all morning, the clouds have moved in over the last half hour and rain is due around 1:00 and set to stay the rest of the day. It won’t be damaging here. Just some breezy rain. We need rain very bad here. This should knock the rest of the pecans that have been slow to fall, from the trees.

Barefoot Bay area update:
My aunt & uncle only had water leak into their sun room on the front of their mobile home. No damage reported from my brother & his wife, who are across the street. Florida Initiation Week for them! They just bought their place in Feb.

A lady down the street from them had her carport collapse on her car and gulf cart. No wheels for her today. Hopefully someone can get that carport up off her vehicle.

My oldest in Panama City, FL said it was breezy and overcast but no rain yet. She went from her office out to her car around 9am and saw a fawn. Figured it was looking for a place to shelter.

My friend in east Atlanta will probably see rain tonight and the last of the fall leaves will be gone from the trees too.

For those of you not from FL, this is barely on land, an outer edge
of an outer edge of a so-called barrier island, so not exactly surprising:

however, when they forecast this huricaine, my first thought was "oh no."

Houses collapsing in Wilbur-By-The-Sea, FL, downed power lines electrocuted 2 people in Orange County, lots of damage for a Cat 1.

Yeah they had a lot of erosion from Ian and Nicole certainly added to that. Not surprised the beachside had some issues, they often do during storms.

I had my wedding reception in Ponce Inlet/Wilbur by the Sea but on the riverside.
