How does the verification work here? I mean how does one go about being verified that possitively verifies that you are who you say you are?

OT, but prayers are needed. I was reading of 2 fatal fires in Kentucky & Georgia. 1 mother lost her husband & 4 children. Another mother lost her 4 children & received critical burns while trying to save them (she did save one). 8 children lost in 24 hrs.-a sad reminder to make sure you have smoke detectors and they are working. RIP, sweet children. :rose:

My understanding was all of the RSO's in Evansdale were cleared within a few days. The reason I remember this was I had stated it seemed quite fast (IMO) at how fast they stated all had been cleared. And Abben had made that comment in more than one interview because that was obviously questioned right away by reporters.

Anyone who was missing, moved, or nowhere to be found I would think would be a HUGE red flag! For cryin' out loud, I hope any that WERE in those statuses were eventually cleared. Any of those circumstances would for warrant an immediate check up by their probation/parole officer.

Sounds to me (since that article was from Dec 14th and the bodies were found on the 7th) that there was some sort of sexual assault/crime with the girls. If not, they probably wouldn't be looking into a sexual connection (hence using sex offender teams). Ugh...poor little girls.

BBM, that is what worries me. If Lyric was targeted (as I sometimes lean towards that theory) then it is likely that the perp is more commonly found in the waterloo area than in Evansdale. Plus, all you have to do is take one look at the Cedar Valley Mugshot FB page to notice that there are a lot of RSOs who are not reporting as they are supposed to and those dudes seem to change addresses frequently, often moving from town to town, county to county and not reporting when they do so. When you look at those individuals on the registry you will see many many addresses which meander all over the general areas of Waterloo, Evansdale, Realyn, etc.

I did want to comment on your thoughts earlier about concerns with the registry system. I agree and share your concerns. Sometimes people end up on the registry for reasons such as statutory rape of a "child" a year younger than themselves. I do have concerns about those individuals ending up labelled as SOs as I feel their crime, is not as serious as those individuals who molest young children, rape forcibly, etc.

But overall, like the idea of a registry for those convicted of sex crimes and as you said, this is not the area to have an in depth conversation about the pros and cons of the registry.

:)

to get verified as an insider, here is the process
If you would like to add youself as an expert in a certain field or an insider to a case, please contact Admin.

If you do not wish to be identified as an expert in a certain area, we only ask that you refrain from answering questions that are specifically directed to those that have been verified as specialist in their area.

If a member posts with "expertise" please check to make sure they are on this list. If not, please do not take their post as professional information, but rather just as another opinion ;much as you would with any member of the general posting membership.

Locals who are describing the area or are members of the gyms and that sort of thing do not need to be verified.

We only verify people who know the players or have been named in the media, etc.

If a member wants to post as a professional (a lawyer, shrink, and so on) or as a local/knows the people involved then they must email us at the following email:

wsverify@xmission.com

Please include:

The case
Your Websleuths name
Your phone number and a good time to call
Your real name.
In the subject line please put your user name and which case you are asking to be verified on.

All info will be kept strictly confidential.

Thank you again.

Does the statement I bolded mean that sometimes the dogs can follow a scent from a vehicle, but if they don't, we can't read anything into that? So if they follow a person's scent down the road, that means the person was in the car, but if they don't, the person might have been in the car and just not shedding skin rafts outside the car in a place where the dogs can find them?

And does Breault's statement mean that the dogs confirmed the girls were at the lake at the same time as the bikes? Or is even that reading too much into it?

Yes, if a dog tracks a target human who is in a vehicle, that's great. But not tracking the target human does not mean that human was not in a vehicle. Ugh, too many negatives. Re-stating it, a targeted human can be transported away in a vehicle without a trained scent dog finding the track.

I believe that Breault's statement means the dogs confirmed the girls were at the lake. The bicycles were found on the trail, the dogs went "to the water" which means either through the gate and to the water's edge or down the trail to the end of the fence and then to the water's edge. Other posters have suggested that all it meant was that skin rafts from the girls fell in a halo around the bicycle (which is probably true, in my opinion) and that halo of the same age as the skin rafts stuck on the bikes was all the dogs were following (which I think is not true).

I agree. I think LE drained the lake because they HAD to. If they hadn't and somehow those girls washed up somewhere along the way, LE would have looked incompetent. They would have been clobbered for not eliminating the obvious first. I think LE was busy doing many other things while that lake was being drained...and they could do that easily because everyone was occupied with the developments at the lake.

BBM

My cynical point of view is that Black Hawk County Sheriff's Department drained the lake partially because of the liability it would have faced by not doing so. If Meyers Lake had not been drained, and the girls' bodies were later found in the lake, any resulting lawsuits would have caused the County's liability insurance premiums through the roof. JMO.

I don't believe LE's early focus on the lake is a sign that they weren't also diligently pursuing other possibilities.

So, for those of you who are certain that LE isn't stumped, have their ducks in a row, and are just waiting for....

What?...

The autopsy results/forensics?

Someone to run their mouth to ensure another "slam dunk" (like the Evelyn Miller case)...

What is stopping LE from making an arrest? There has to be evidence

The reason I ask is because for one, if any fingerprints were on the bikes AND the perp/perps had been arrested before, then their prints would have been in the database.

I'm only asking because I'm curious as to what other sleuthers are thinking is holding things up. What is missing to bring justice to these two beautiful girls?
That of course is assuming prints were able to be lifted.

If it was a family member or the girls prints only there would be a valid explanation to their prints being on the bike.

I am going to have to assume that since it was back in July when the bikes were found, it's safe to say that either they weren't able to lift prints or the people's prints that were on the bike didn't produce enough evidence to warrant an arrest.

What is LE waiting for??QUOTEThe evidence has to put the perp at the place where the actual murder took place. Maybe this is where there is a problem. Circumstantial evidence can only take it so far. Remember all the evidence on Casey Anthony and she still got off. They could never find a scene of the crime

Below is the kind of comment that drives me nuts:

Chief Smock told KWWL sex offender teams from the state Division of Criminal Investigation are helping interview people of interest, but he says no one has been detained and those interviewed are not any closer to being suspects than anyone else.

On the other hand, he says no one's been cleared of suspicion, either.

So DCI sex offender teams have interviewed people of interest, no one has been detained, those interviewed are not any closer to being suspects than anyone else, but no one has been cleared of suspicion.

Huh?:banghead:

There's no evidence to rule them out -- no particular alibi, etc. -- but there's no reason to think they're guilty, either. Probably covers most of the population of Evansdale.

Gosh, they couldn't clear ANY of the RSO's? That seems unusual.

I was going to post the exact same type of comment!

If they aren't clueless they sure aren't portraying themselves that way. :floorlaugh::floorlaugh:

I know it's not suppose to be funny...but come on. Those types of "statements" sound nothing short of ridiculous. If they have no new information that they want to share then use the ole' "I am not able to comment about that at this time".

So, is he ONLY referring to Sex Offenders when he says this? Or are we now to believe "no one has been cleared of suspicion"? :banghead:

So do you think there is no DNA or forensic evidence then from the bodies?

They would be able to match that up pretty quick I would think.

I understand that the gate was unlocked but closed at the time. Whether it was open or not, if kids knew that it was unlocked, it could have been an "attractive nuisance", and therefore maybe some other kids had checked it out earlier in the day, prior to the girls' bikes being found there.

Don't want to prolong any timeline/bikes/fisherman discussion, just stating my opinion.

And that's all I got to say about that.

Thats a very good point!!! As a Mom of 4... I can tell you kids do things like that all the time. Very interesting thought.

Lol. Cute...Forrest Gump

I don't believe LE is clueless in this case, but it's those kinds of statements by Abben that can lead one to believe otherwise.

I'm not sure what his comment that "no one has been cleared of suspicion" means. I tend to think he was referring to sex offenders, since he was discussing the DCI sex offender teams. But it's about as clear as mud to me.

They're still looking at everyone and needing more evidence to tie it all together...and/or they are charging ahead and this is just a smokescreen for the perp(s) to think they have nothing.

They would not have any DNA tests results back on the 14th. It takes weeks....and they have stated they are being meticulious in the investigation. I can wait as long as they get him, her, or them....and can get a conviction. Although it would be nice if it's tomorrow. LOL :banghead:

Smock didn't say the team was interviewing sex offenders. According to the article, he said that
...the sex offender teams from the state Division of Criminal Investigation are helping interview people of interest....
