GUILTY IA - Nohema Graber, 66, HS teacher, beaten to death by students, Fairfield, Nov 2021 *arrests

Jeremy Goodale's trial will not take place Dec. 5. A new trial date has not been set.
The trial is to take place in Scott County.

Meanwhile, Willard Miller's trial is scheduled for March 20, 2023.
I somewhat expected this after watching the motions hearing by Miller where Goodale's defense likely picked up some ideas. How frustrating for the community and NG's family. :(

Whew! Was recommended this case - so here I am - read it all from the beginning. And collected info for my notes.
I see that Goodale's trial on 12/5/22 has been continued with no further dates... I have him for a pretrial hearing on 11/21/22 & Miller on 3/6/23 with trial on 3/20/23.

For the above I just posted - does that mean the 11/21/22 pretrial was continued to 5/4/23 - ??
I believe Goodale's attorney filed a motion for continuance on 10/26 and there's a hearing scheduled for this motion on 11/21/22. (Order granted for the trial date 12/5/22 scrubbed but I think they are still arguing about the discovery they want to be suppressed).

The pretrial conf scheduled for 5/4/23 and Jury Trial (in Scotts County) on 5/15/23 are separate/unrelated schedules.

@Niner -- FYI, I watched Miller's suppression hearing on 11/2 and I doubt Miller's defense will be ready for trial in March. This one thinks he's entitled and his defense is certainly fueling his attitude. MOO

Thanks so much for joining and tracking this sad case. :)

Okay - that is what I thought - but wasn't too sure from the way it was worded on the court site! Thanks for the clarification! :)

The trial of a 17-year-old Fairfield teenager accused of killing a teacher is set to start May 15, 2023, in Scott County Courthouse in Davenport, according to court documents.

Jeremy Goodale’s jury trial is set to begin at 8:45 a.m., court records say. The court granted Goodale’s request to for a change of venue because of publicity surrounding the case, “so pervasive as to make a trial in Jefferson County unfair,” according to court records.

Miller’s trial has changed location, too , from Jefferson County to Pottawattamie County.

I shall keep an eye out to see if he has a hearing before the May one.

Dec. 24, 2022

Iowa teens who are accused of killing their high school Spanish teacher with a baseball bat will be tried as adults. This is because a judge denied their requests to move their cases to juvenile court.

Records from the Jefferson County court show that Judge Shawn Showers denied Jeremy Goodale, 17, and Willard Miller, 16, requests to get out of their sentences early. Online court documents say that both teens are being charged with first-degree murder and planning to commit a crime under duress.
[.....]
Investigators have not talked about a motive.

March 20 — Willard Miller and Jeremy Everett Goodale (Iowa)

Iowa teenagers Willard Miller and Jeremy Everett Goodale, 17, are standing for separate trials in 2023. Miller's trial will begin on March 20, and Goodale's trial date is pending.

Goodale and Miller are charged with first-degree murder and first-degree conspiracy to commit homicide after they allegedly beat their Spanish teacher, Nohema Graber, 66, to death in November 2021. Investigators determined she had extensive head trauma.

Jan. 19, 2023
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - A hearing is scheduled to determine if the court will accept defendant Willard Miller’s request to push back his murder trial.
[.....]
Miller is set to go on trial on March 20th, 2023, but his lawyer has cited a busy schedule and the need for more time in order to consult expert witnesses and review various transcripts and documents.

The prosecution is expected to resist this request to push back the trial.

A judge will make a determination on whether or not to reschedule the trial at a January 27th, 2023 hearing.

Well, I called this one and really hope the Court denies Miller's request to push back his trial! His sense of entitlement from the beginning is beyond measure. ;)
