Idaho quadruple murder suspect Bryan Kohberger had his October trial delayed indefinitely after he waived his right to a speedy trial.

Kohberger, 28, was in a Moscow court on Wednesday to discuss various matters. He was set to go to trial in the coming months in connection to the grizzly murder of four college students.

No date was set for the future trial, which could now be in months or even years.

TODAY: I’ll be down in Latah Co. for this status conference and will be tweeting updates from the courtroom.

We are seated in the courtroom for a status conference in the #Kohberger trial. As of right now, that trial is scheduled to start in October. Follow along with this for updates. Things are set to start at 2:15 (about 5 minutes)

Today we are expecting a check-in to make sure both sides are ready to proceed in October, but earlier today the Goncalves family expressed their concern that Kohberger may wave his right to a speedy trial

Kohberger is prepared to wave his right to a speedy trial. Judge Judge is asking Kohberger if that is what he wants. Kohberger has responded “yes” “You sure you want to do this?” - Judge “Absolutely” - Kohberger

The state has no objections to this waving saying they would like it to be resolved sooner than later, but this is the smartest option. Judge said it would be a lot to put together before Oct. 2nd and he wants everyone to be fully prepared.

For clarification: this means the trial will not happen on Oct. 2nd. The defense says they are not prepared to set a new trial date today.

Defense says they are hoping to keep their Sept. 1st hearing date because they are prepared to file challenges against the grand jury indictment. They are also filing 2 motions against cameras in the courtroom and what happens to witnesses after they testify.

The defense would like to hold off scheduling the trial until after the Sept. 1st date.

Trial has been vacated. Sept. 1st date kept. Court is adjourned.

BREAKING: Kohberger’s trial, scheduled for Oct. 2, has been vacated. Kohberger waived his right to a speedy trial. They will schedule a trial after the Sep. 1 hearing.

Judge John Judge says they’re having issues with juror selection. Judge Judge said he was asked to be a juror. He asked defense and prosecution if they’re okay with him remaining the judge and not participating as a juror. Both agreed.

#BryanKohberger appeared in court Wednesday for a status hearing and waived his right to a speedy trial. The accused killer effectively delayed his trial, which was originally scheduled for October 2. Kohberger’s attorney, Anne Taylor, claimed the defense needs more time to efficiently present their case. There was no new trial date set.

In a new court filing released Friday, the defense says the "camera-[wielding] courtroom observers have failed to obey" an earlier directive not to focus "exclusively" on their client, pointing to photos that they said were a "blatant violation," and to headlines they called "blatantly sensationalistic and prejudicial."

That, the defense said, necessitates the "expulsion of cameras from future proceedings."

The defense stated cameras' "continued exclusive focus" on Kohberger also provides "fodder" for those on social media "who are not bound by notions of journalistic integrity and who have potentially an even greater reach than traditional media outlets."

#BryanKohberger was supposed to have a hearing over his motion to dismiss his grand jury indictment this Fri. But that hearing was pushed to 9/22 to give prosecutor's office more time to respond. He will still have a hearing Friday over his request to ban cameras from court.
