Though they do not reveal details of what the warrants obtained, the records indicate that prosecutors have launched an expansive examination of Kohberger's activities online as they probe the suspect's possible connection to the victims - and the crimes he is accused of committing.

"The case has only just begun once you make an arrest," said Robert Boyce, an ABC News contributor and retired chief of detectives in the New York Police Department. "You want to see what he was looking up. You want to know what he was saying, whether under his or under an assumed name on these platforms."
[...]
"They want to establish his state of mind, who he talks to and what he talks about," Boyce said. "There could be probative materials there."

The Latah County Prosecutor's Office, leading the case against Kohberger, did not reply to requests from ABC News for comment.

Kohberger, 28, was indicted last month on charges including four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary. At his arraignment last week, Kohberger declined to offer a plea, so the judge entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

Idaho murders victim Ethan Chapin's mother announces children's book in his memory, will skip Kohberger trial

Stacy Chapin's 'The Boy Who Wore Blue' came out last week

The book is based on her son's childhood and Chapin said she was inspired to write it after learning that someone was working on a book about her son's murder.

"My best friend sent me a news release that an author had been given the rights of the story to tell of these kids," she said. "And as a mom you're like, how does somebody write a story about people that they don't know?"

A newly filed memorandum says the court shouldn't allow cameras to be used during hearings because they could "permit unfairly prejudicial coverage" of the case.

MOSCOW, Idaho — The defense attorney for the man accused of killing four University of Idaho students is asking the court to prohibit cameras from being in the courtroom as case hearings continue.

A newly filed memorandum asks the court to prohibit cameras from the courtroom during future proceedings, to include the suspect's trial. In the memorandum, the defense said prohibiting cameras and limiting media coverage will protect the suspect's Sixth Amendment rights, prevents "unfairly prejudicial coverage" and prevents courtroom participants from being harassed or distracted.

Idaho murder suspect Kohberger wants cameras banned from upcoming trial and future proceedings. Journalism organizations argue it's in the public interest to see the process play out - and that it also protects the defendant's rights.

MOSCOW, Idaho - The man accused of killing four University of Idaho college students last fall does not want cameras allowed in his upcoming trial or any other proceedings, citing the "prejudicial effects of trial publicity."

Bryan Kohbeger filed a motion to exclude cameras in response to a request from a group of news agencies, including KXLY, to allow cameras in court.

A judge will hear arguments on the issue at a hearing later this week.

In his opposition, Kohberger's attorney writes that "audio/visual coverage has become material for news outlets and social media accounts to espouse their unfounded opinions."

He cites social media posts, TikTok videos and podcasts that attempt to "analyze Mr. Kohberger's demeanor by observing his body language... and describing him using phrases such as 'cold iciness.'"

MOSCOW, Idaho -- The mother of one of the four University of Idaho students who were fatally stabbed in an off-campus home last year said she won't attend the trial of her son's accused killer, CNN reported.

"It doesn't change the outcome," Stacy Chapin, whose 20-year-old son Ethan was killed in the attack, told NBC's Savannah Guthrie of attending the court proceedings. "It just is energy that doesn't feel like it's well spent."

The family of Kaylee Goncalves is spreading the word about "Kaylee Jade Day," to celebrate what would have been her 22nd birthday on June 8 and inviting people to help them honor Kaylee by doing something they love with her in mind.

Kaylee's older sister, Alivea Goncalves, told ABC News that her family plans to watch the sunset together on the beach before returning home to watch some of Kaylee's favorite childhood movies.

"We don't have Kaylee with us here any longer but that doesn't mean her love for life, family, or adventure is gone," Alivea Goncalves said.

The Goncalves family encourages everyone to "do more of what you love" on that day and to share it on social media using #KayleeJadeDay.

Three months after four University of Idaho students were murdered in a house near their campus, two of the students are being honored in a unique way.

Goncalves's sister, Alivea Goncalves, paid tribute to her late sister, naming her newborn daughter Theodora MaddieKay Stevenson. The baby's middle name is a combination of Kaylee Goncalves' first name and the first name of her lifelong best friend and roommate, the late Madison Mogen, who was also killed.
