Olson told the court that cameras are necessary within the trial and other hearings because the public, and the family of the victims, have a right to observe the proceedings.

"(Cameras) provide an opportunity to educate the public on how the courts work... If you're trying the case in the courtroom, the public can learn a lot about how the case proceeds… Make decisions for themselves," Olson said.
The defense had a different idea. Jay Logsdon, a litigation attorney with Kohberger's defense, said in regards to the gag order that the only way to comment or air-out any issues is within a courtroom.

"The media is not a good place to do this. The media of 2023 is not a good place to go when trying to resolve issues," Logsdon said.

Judge hears arguments over gag order, cameras in courtroom in Kohberger case

No one is happy with the media coverage in the case of Bryan Kohberger, the man accused of killing four University of Idaho students last fall.

A coalition of media outlets is frustrated that a nondissemination order, or gag order, has cut off most avenues for reporting.

Defense attorneys worry the “enormous amount” of coverage on the case has created a mob intent on pushing Kohberger to the firing squad without a fair trial. Prosecutors are concerned additional coverage will make conducting a fair trial difficult.

And the judge overseeing the case is upset with the TikTok, YouTube and television coverage of the case. He said he wished for more explanatory and balanced coverage like he has seen in local media outlets.

“That would be nice, to see more of that, than the sensationalizing that we are seeing in the national media,” said Latah County District Court Judge John Judge.

Let's get to the meat of these latest filings. #BryanKohberger needs more time to establish an alibi. The date is finite. November 13, 2022. If you had an alibi, it would be a piece of cake to establish...if you had an alibi. Blaming terabytes of data as the reason you can't tender an alibi makes no since. Where were you November 13, 2022 a between 3:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.? I was sound asleep in my bed, and my phone data would clearly corroborate my location.

Kohberger returned with the AED just as emergency personnel arrived on scene. Piccolo was examined in the ambulance before being taken to St. Luke’s Monroe Campus for further treatment. She was going to be okay.

Updated Dec. 30, 2022

Earlier, a Bryan Kohberger worked as a security guard in the nearby Pleasant Valley School District where he was credited in 2018 with helping save the life of a hall monitor who was having an asthma attack, The Pocono Record reported.

This is a good, comprehensive recap of the Idaho investigation that led to the arrest of #bryankohberger. Key dates: 12/19 - BK identified and connected to the White Elantra and fired from his position as a teaching assistant 12/23 - BK's Cell records received by law enforcement 12/27 - DNA from BK's father was connected through Genetic Genealogy to the DNA on the knife sheath snap found next to #Maddie. 12/30 - BK arrested at his parent's home in Pennsylvania

In the weeks after four University of Idaho students were found slaughtered in a house near campus last November, a growing roster of investigators desperately searching for answers had yet to identify a suspect or even find the murder weapon.

Publicly, the authorities were assuring worried residents in the small college town that they were making progress. Privately, they were exhausting their prospects, scouring through the backgrounds of those with the thinnest possible connections to the case.

Through the first two weeks of December, investigators put some of their focus on classmates of the victims; they also widened the search to examine a man in another state who had been known to send harassing messages to women but had visited Idaho only twice in his life. They looked at a woman previously charged with assaults in the region. They looked at a man once accused of wielding a knife. They looked at sex offenders. They looked at a white supremacist. Each turned out to be a dead end.

Then, after spending weeks sifting through an array of evidence that seemed to lead nowhere, investigators announced an arrest in late December on the other side of the country: Bryan Kohberger, a Ph.D. student from a nearby university. He was identified only after investigators turned to an advanced method of DNA analysis that had rarely been used in active murder investigations.

The story of how dozens of officers from local, state and federal agencies took the quadruple murder investigation into extraordinary territory is only now becoming more apparent, through recently obtained records and interviews with people familiar with the investigation who discussed key details that emerged before the issuance of a gag order in the case.

The Def and Pros came to an agreement stipulating the stipulation concerning the forensic items they will remove and test should be sealed. Please chime in lawyers, but the bottom line is that the Def and Pros do not want the facts concerning their stipulation public because if it were, we would know what they are testing... What forensic evidence do they have? This sounds very positive for the Prosecution. The Defense will test to see what they conclude. That's the reading between the lines that I see.

MOSCOW, Idaho -- The man accused of killing four Idaho college students is asking the court for more time to decide whether to offer an alibi as he prepares to mount his defense at trial this fall, according to new court documents.

Bryan Kohberger's lawyer said in a motion filed Friday that because of the "voluminous" discovery process which is "still ongoing," and because they're still investigating the charges against their client, deciding now would be "at a minimum, premature as wading through the extensive information that makes up the case is incomplete."

Additionally, deciding at this juncture "may tread into disclosures of protected information," they said.

Kohberger’s public defender, Anne Taylor, said in a motion filed Friday in Latah County District Court his defense had not had sufficient time to fully review evidence provided by the prosecution. The evidence “includes thousands of pages of discovery, thousands of photographs, (and) hundreds of hours of recordings,” Taylor wrote.

Under Idaho law, a criminal defendant normally has 10 days to offer information on whether they plan to provide an alibi showing they were not at the scene when the alleged offense took place – but a judge can extend that deadline.

“The defense needs time to make this determination and consider evidentiary rules,” said Taylor.

Latah County District Court Judge John Judge is also expected to issue a decision on arguments from a media coalition and an attorney for the Goncalves family asking him to amend a gag order implemented in the case.

The order prohibits all attorneys in the case – prosecutors, defense lawyers, and those representing victims and witnesses – from saying anything publicly beyond what is already in the public record.

Defense attorneys and prosecutors claim without the gag order jurors may come to the trial with an opinion already formed.

Nearly seven months after the killing of four University of Idaho students at an off-campus home, their families are turning the unthinkable into something positive as they celebrate the lives of the students.

I find it interesting that some are rehashing what's been known for months about #BryanKohberger acting "normal" before and after the murders. This is no revelation nor is it relevant in my opinion. Whether he is guilty or not, Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer and many other killers conducted their business as usual before they struck. I am not sure what signs would be expected but what we see in the movies is not the reality. Below is a great study to understand the reality. Also below is the 5 month old story which imparts the basis for the belief BK was acting "normal". Whoever committed this crime, I believe, would have killed again motivated by the same reason he committed these killings.

Back in January, I shared this, but I thought it might be worthwhile sharing again for those who haven't seen 1122 King Road and who might be interested in a virtual tour.

Why, If #BryanKohberger is the narcissist who committed these crimes, why he would he not want cameras in the courtroom? First and foremost, he wants to be acquitted, which supercedes any fantasy or fixation on being televised. No cameras in the courtroom benefits BK, and that's why his Def team is fighting so hard to have them banned and fighting so hard for the gag order. The evidence is powerful, and BK and his Team wants it stifled. The prosecution is in agreement because they are looking out for their witnesses' privacy and they want this trial to be as fair as possible to avoid grounds for appeal.
