Good point about an annoyed neighbor who loses it.
Full disclosure.
I live next to a large apartment complex, where there are frequently people that pull up, sit in their cars, and play some kind of "music" that is basically just all bass. Heavily amplified bass. It is so loud it literally shakes my entire house.

I must admit that there have been times, at around 3am, when this shaking has awakened me quite rudely, and I have momentarily thought "I'm gonna kill them!!!"
But I'm not a psychopath.

The 911 call (which hasn't been released) has been discussed ad nauseam on WS. If a person calls and reports a possible death or murder, the operator always asks if the individual(s) is/are conscious. The call being a report of an unconscious person is in no way stating that the caller said those words verbatim in their call.
Below is a link of Eugene, OR 911 call scrpits.

Post in thread 'ID - 4 University of Idaho Students Murdered - Moscow # 26' ID - 4 University of Idaho Students Murdered - Moscow # 26

@highfastflyer

There is no evidence from what we've been given the survivors found the 4 bodies. Can you please link where that info is coming from?
Actually I was the one asking for facts earlier, and someone reposted them, a few post numbers above. (#969) I only commented on those facts.

edit: ok I see what you mean, I could have worded it more succinctly, deleted now. My point remains - the “passed out” wording used in the police statement doesn’t match a visual encounter with any of the victims in their reported state. So, some info is lacking, I’ll agree.

There's one obvious unusual thing here -- the knife; and that makes it the signifier.

Solve the knife and solve the crime.

'MOSCOW, Idaho — On Friday, Dec. 9 Moscow police issued a press release saying they have been monitoring activity online and know that people area spreading misinformation about the ongoing case.
Police say they are also aware of harassing and threatening behavior being reported that is targeting people who may or may not be involved in the case.''

''Police did not name any specific source of misinformation or harassment, but the ongoing investigation into the murder of four University of Idaho students has attracted increasing attention online and in social media.
On Thursday, police announced that the phone tip line has been inundated with calls with people asking about and responding to recent information about a white 2011-2013 Hyundai Elantra. Because of this, police are now routing the call tips and leads line to an FBI call center, the phone number will stay the same.''

There's a reason cops haven't released too much information and a reason they're keeping Mr. Goncalves in the dark on some stuff, folks. I think we need to cut the cops a break.

MOO.

Thank you for linking this! I personally think it should be pinned somewhere to reduce the speculation about the call. Heck, maybe we need an entire thread designated for rumor control…lol

From the page you linked:

“For medical calls, you will be asked the following questions

  • How old is the patient? (approximate age will do)
  • Is the patient conscious?
  • Is the patient breathing?
Your answer to the question about "what happened" will help us determine what the situation is. Based on that, we will ask you more specific questions and give you instructions about what to do while you wait for help to arrive.”

Completely agree with this. As I posted before, my questions are:

1) What exactly made them think it’s a Ka-Bar. Are they just using that as a general for “long, relatively thin knife,” or was there more specific evidence, like a sheath, something specific in the patterns of the wounds indicating the shape of a quillion/guard, etc.
2) Then, Ka-Bar is a brand, not a model. Assuming they do literally mean a Ka-Bar brand knife, is it necessarily the USMC Fighting Knife most associate with the brand, or perhaps some of the many other knives that company produces, largely for outdoor uses.
3) Finally, if they do in fact mean the classic USMC as most seem to be presuming, why did the individual own it? I read a lot of comments from people thinking it indicates someone with military training, or just a generally violent intention in owning it. But, as an Idahoan and lifelong outdoorsman, I see that knife differently. It’s a very common sort of camping/outdoor knife that people are drawn to before moving on to tools better-suited to camp activities (such as a Ka-Bar Becker I suppose). I personally have two of them for exactly those uses.

Given where this occurred, which is close to my own home town, to me that knife just says someone into the outdoors and likely some backcountry camping. And depending on the age, may even be into what they now call "bushcraft," which is pretty much wilderness survival skills-building. People are into that here.

Just my opinion, but realized I do have a different perspective on what owning a Ka-Bar in Idaho likely implies and thought it worth sharing!

Nothing huge here, again about M and K. They left the bar and walked to the food truck, I believe it was Brian E that showed the scene. So that was a little bit of walk.
Wouldn't that draw attention? I think that probably was why the guy with the white
hoodie was around. He probably walked the girls from the bar to the food truck. If you are being driven around town b/c you are having a night out on the town, why would you
walk in the middle of the night to a food truck?

The amount of Federal agents on this case, has me thinking.... I really don't recall so many Federal agents on most other murder cases. Thoughts?

How about “lock your doors”? Why travel in pairs? Maybe just because that is common safety knowledge and they still believe targeted.

Highly visible case, and some uncertainty as to what they have on their hands. Could be very worried about the perp escalating their activity, especially if the motive is to create fear and chaos. The only other thought is that the case is complex and the FBI's help and expertise is needed. All MOO.

I wish a reporter would ask if they want to know if you own an Elantra fitting their description in Florida or New York, etc.? And do they mean for people to report “every” car fitting their description across the US and Canada?
