Missing two year old in Lemhi County

Search crews are looking for a missing two year old boy who was camping with his family in the Leadore area.

Family members say Deorr Kunz Jr. was camping yesterday afternoon at the Timber Creek Campground at Stone Reservoir when he was reported missing.

He was last seen wearing a camo jacket, blue sweatpants and camo cowboy boots.

There is no official word from yet from The Lemhi County Sheriff's Office or Salmon Search & Rescue of organized searches for the weekend. We'll update search information as it's released.

Yeah, but you don't always think of everything. Maybe you just need a break, or a refill on your coffee. If you're a tourist, maybe you want a souvenir. Lots of reasons to stop.

Somebody up thread asked if the creek could be drained. Nobody replied. I just wanted to tell that poster nobody replied because I don't think we know. I don't remember it being discussed here and it would take somebody up there in the know to discuss that. Hope that helps.

And maybe the woman in the store did see a filthy, bawling toddler in a black truck at 6pm. It might not have been DeOrr though. And at 6pm it certainly wasn't dad because LE were there by then.

My dad is in his late 60s and still goes hiking and camping with his friends, and he and my mam took me from being a few months old.

People volunteer for poly's all the time, then change their minds later. Anyone who has been on this forum any length of time knows this happens alot. Not saying the parents are guilty of anything or have anything to hide but YEA people do volunteer to do them..but then dont follow through. Pretty common it seems.

I'd like to see a show of hands: how many people here live in a sparsely populated place or enjoy recreating in such a place? My impression is not too many. So I thought I would share a few things that are common among those who do:

1) There is a universal code of "self rescue": In an emergency, it will take too long for help to arrive. You take immediate action yourself to find someone who is missing, give first aid to someone who is hurt or sick, etc. Once you've done a thorough search, or stabilized your "patient," then you call for help. Every minute counts when you are in a remote location. If little Deorr had fallen in water, they needed to spread out and look themselves immediately, not try to call 911. They did what backcountry enthusiasts know to do, and need to do, before deciding they needed additional help.

2) Age is just a number. It's a state of mind. If great-grandpa liked the outdoors, why shouldn't he go camping in a place like this? My father-in-law was active right up until he died at 86, even though he was dying from cancer his last few years. Nothing was going to stop him from living before he died. In addition, for all we know, g-grandpa was dying and he wanted "one last time in the wilderness" before his health prevented him from being able to do so. No matter what the circumstances, a multi-generational family camping in the wilderness does not make me wonder, "What the heck?" I think, "How wonderful!"

It just saddens me to see people think this isn't a normal outing for families to take. And it also saddens me that people think this family didn't call for help quickly enough. These are not the things that bother me. What bothers me is that SAR didn't find a single item belonging to this toddler, they didn't find footprints, and their dogs didn't find a scent.

I do think it's possible he was abducted. There are cases where human predators wait in remote locations: serial killers come to mind, such as Israel Keyes. But my gut says if he was at the campground, he fell in the creek and is lodged farther down than they searched. He could be in the reservoir, but I think that is less likely (but not impossible).

All this is JMO, of course.

I dont know for sure about possibly stopping the creek water but I can take a good guess based on the pictures.

When a creek is running like that, There is only 2 ways I know of where they could stop the flow of that creek in order to search below the creek better.

#1-It depends on the source of the creeks water. If the source of the creek water was coming from a dam and they had a way to turn off of the valves right at the dam, then they could stop the flow for a certain length of time before having to turn the valves back on.

There was talk of a reservoir up from the campsite so I am not sure if there is a dam with a valve that is feeding that creek or not. It all depends on the source of this creeks water.

It could be a naturally fed creek and then it could not be stopped without Option #2.

#2-Corps of Engineers would have to escavate the land to divert the creek to another diversion and force the water to go somewhere else.

This option #2 is not really an option due to the huge cost and permits involved.

On the previous thread, someone had made a good point about the 911 call and I think it kind of got merged into a discussion of how long is long enough before calling 911.

The point that got lost was the mother herself said on the 911 recording that she had searched about 1 hour before calling 911.

The poster was trying to clear up the other inconsistencies in other reports about it only being 10 minutes before the call to 911 was made.

We have heard inconsistent reporting about this and i think this is a real good point that on this particular call, the mother herself says it was about 1 hour. So IMO, i am going with 1 hour too.

IMO he's not. David Paulides makes these cases all sensational, when they are really just people that got lost in the outdoors. National Parks are huge and it's easy to get lost out in them. The terrain can be too dangerous for searchers to find missing people. It doesn't take long for nature to take its course and remains get scattered and covered up by undergrowth.

Paulides might never mention bigfoot in any of the Missing 411 books, but that's just part of the marketing ploy that gets people to buy his other books.
