JJ'S NANNY: Lori Vallow-Daybell contacted her through http://care.com. She went to Lori's townhome Sept. 18. "She was very welcoming and gave me a hug. Their home was clean and had a picture of a temple on the wall." (con't)
·
JJ'S NANNY: "She explained to me, as we watched JJ play outside with the neighbor kids, some of his tendencies. He gets emotional easily, frustrated, distracted, has difficulty communicating with others, but can follow orders if you look at him right in the eyes."

JJ'S NANNY: "She explained to me how they recently moved here from Arizona. Her husband had just died of a heart attack and how JJ doesn't quite understand the situation. Lori said how she and her husband adopted JJ and that he was her nephew."

JJ'S NANNY: Lori Vallow-Daybell talked to nanny about Tylee: "Her daughter also lives in Rexburg and is going to college. She said her daughter doesn’t like to babysit JJ without being paid so she wanted me to work for her."

JJ'S NANNY-- What Lori said about Tylee: "Occasionally her daughter would come visit for dinner or to do laundry, but she never said that she lived there with them. It appeared that only Lori and JJ lived there, from the look of things and from what she told me."

JJ'S NANNY: "My overall impression of her was that she was kind but seemed stressed out being a newly widowed mom alone with her autistic son."
JJ'S NANNY: Nanny came back Sept. 19 to babysit JJ. "When I walked inside, she mentioned how she was waiting for her brother to come and leave with her to the airport. She said she was going to the Idaho Falls airport. She said her brother also lived here in Rexburg."

"[Lori] mentioned how if she got home later to give JJ his medicine right before bed because it makes him tired fast. She joked about how she liked that because some days when he was extra tough for her to handle, she would give him his meds and have him go to bed early..."

"...to give her a break. Then her brother came over and was quiet, just said hello and then they left. JJ was upset about her leaving and went into the garage. I followed him to make sure he didn’t block the garage from closing."

JJ'S NANNY: Says after Lori left, JJ went to play with neighbor kids. Nanny fed him dinner. JJ tried to leave during dinner. "Lori said she had to put on 2 locks because sometime JJ escapes." Eventually JJ went back to friend's townhouse to play.

"...He threw the chair from their wooden table down, flipped the ottoman over by their couch, and then ran upstairs. I let him cry for a bit, hoping he would calm down, but he didn’t. I felt I should check on him to make sure he wouldn’t hurt himself or break anything..."
"...I quickly found him under the bed in his mom’s room. He also had a room upstairs but from what I remember it just had toys in it and no bed. Lori’s room appeared normal, she had a large bed, bathroom, and it looked clean. Although something kind of strange..."
"...something kind of strange was that there was a small mattress in the corner where JJ slept. It was pretty thin, the size of a twin mattress, with sheets and a pillow. There was a mirror hanging above the mattress in the corner, as JJ ran up from under the bed..."

"...he went toward the mirror and knocked it off the wall. Hoping it didn’t break glass all over the mattress, I picked it up. While doing so he ran back downstairs. As I went back downstairs, JJ was still upset and said his mom wouldn’t want me to come over again..."
"...that he hated me, and didn’t want to be my friend. Shortly after this freak out his mom, her brother, and the friend walked in from the garage. The mom calmed JJ and asked me what happened. I explained the situation and she babied him..."

JJ'S NANNY: Said it was "overwhelming the amount of love" Lori showed JJ after his breakdown. Nanny met Lori's friend Lori picked up from airport, a woman who did podcasts with Lori. "I didn’t see a suitcase, so I don’t think she was staying that long."

J'S NANNY: Lori thanked Nanny and paid $40 cash. "From what we had talked about yesterday that was what she seemed to be needing, was nearly daily assistance from me. This was the last day I saw JJ and Lori."

JJ'S NANNY: Sept. 24 (day after JJ went missing) nanny reached out to Lori. "...she responded to me that JJ was with his grandparents for a month and that she was in Hawaii. She said in about a month, when they come back, that I could work again. Well once that month passed..."

JJ'S NANNY: "I texted her again around Halloween time, asking if I could work. There was no response... I thought it was pretty weird that they just up and left for a month and didn't need me to work ever again after just hiring me."

JJ'S NANNY: Nanny's thoughts on Lori's explanation of JJ going to grandparents home, Lori going to Hawaii: "I assumed she must have really needed a break from JJ I guess, and I left it at that. That was the last time I ever communicated with Lori."

Some notes on what the nanny said Lori told her-- like Lori's husband dying from heart attack. We know Charles Vallow died because Lori's brother, Alex Cox, shot and killed Charles. Alex told police it was self-defense.

To someone used to this type of speak, it wouldn't be viewed that way. You can still say "no, thank you". His prompting to offer the job doesn't obligate you to take the job. Perhaps he was prompted to offer the job for other reasons, to start a friendship, to waste some time, etc. For example, it wouldn't be uncommon for an LDS person to say, "I didn't take the job, but if he hadn't been prompted to talk to me about it, I would have been in that car accident, etc." JUST AN EXAMPLE.
We can agree to disagree, but can we please stop with the sarcastic posts about "promptings" and negative discussion about it? That is borderline offensive to those who really believe in the stuff.
I think it's okay to have a negative discussion about promptings, as long as the discussion is kept within the rules and done respectfully. Certain elements of the LDS are impossible to avoid with this case, and unfortunately, not all of them are good.

s far as what Lori told the nanny about Tylee, Lori's daughter-- Rexburg PD have confirmed Tylee never enrolled at BYU-ID (PD said Lori told other people this). Neighbors said they saw Tylee around the townhouses. She was last seen Sept. 8 in Yellowstone National Park.

n regards to JJ's medicine-- Charging docs revealed Rexburg PD found JJ's medication with pills still in the bottle during search warrant of townhouse. They confirmed meds were filled in Arizona, never refilled in Idaho.

On Sept. 24, the day the nanny said she reached out to Lori, JJ's school in Rexburg said Lori came in to unenroll him because she was going to home school him instead. JJ was last seen Sept. 23 at his school. Hasn't been seen since. (end thread)

IF Tylee Ryan was murder it would of happen at Yellowstone Park. It has a legal loophole. It make it possible to get away with murder within this 50 square mile section of Yellowstone. J.J. Vallow would have been murder at the Califorina Yellowstone park. If you trace Lori and Chad before they went to Kauai. They left from Los Angeles by plane to Kauai. The driving time between California's Yellowstone to Los Angeles is 15 hr and 16 mins with no stops and switching drivers. This is the only thing that fits into the time fame of the kids missing and them in Hawaii. I do not know Lori or Chad or any of there kids. only been following this by news stories and web.

Are you confusing California's Yosemite national park with Yellowstone?

  • #607
It must have been. I’m so pleased she’s in a cell having a chance to think about the kids. Who was she filming the news crew for? Her adoring fans? Her children? MOO

She is trying to be threatening as if she will be using this footage for a law suit.

In reference to the person/people who keep claiming there is a Yellowstone "death zone" that lets you get away with murder...

ITS NOT A LEGAL LOOPHOLE. THIS DEATH ZONE DOES NOT EXIST. IT IS A LEGAL HYPOTHETICAL PROPOSED AS A POSSIBLE CHALLENGE TO THE LAW AS WRITTEN, NOT A FACT OR EVEN AN ACTUAL THING IN PRACTICE. THERE IS NO FREE MURDER ZONE IN YELLOWSTONE PARK OR ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE US. THERE IS NO LEGAL PRECEDENT FOR A DEATH ZONE TO EXIST IN YELLOWSTONE NOR IS THERE ANY REASON TO BELIEVE THERE WOULD BE.

Once again, not directed at you specifically, Lions, it is just really annoying how people keep talking about the death zone as if it carries any legal weight to it.

A thin mattress in Lori's room??? I can understand if he can't sleep alone, emotionally, but why not just a regular twin bed? Sounds like he's sleeping on a cot in his own home. Was*

Also, the meltdown seems pretty normal for an autistic child. I used to nanny an old friend's kids & her second youngest (out of 4) was on the spectrum. I've known her literally since the second she was born, but she still threw a major fit one day that freaked me out b/c none of the normal things worked. (eventually just had to let her scream it out in her room while I sat in the hall.)

I find it very odd that it doesn't seem like Lori gave her any activities or methods to help him when that happened other than just "medicate" him. It is odd to me that any mother of an autistic child would hire a stranger without having a time for the child to get to know them with mom still there. The babysitter says that Lori showed a lot of love to him when she got home, but it seems like just her public mom face again.

I wonder how common these tantrums are/were for JJ? Was it normal? Or more extreme b/c not only was he with a stranger but b/c his sister was gone? Did he know something but couldn't communicate it? My heart just breaks for him.

MOO

Could you explain a bit more of your thinking on this? I'm interested.

Sure, I am new to WS but not unfamiliar with certain aspects of this case. It is complex and the reasons I was drawn to elements of the case are similar to why others were drawn to follow this story. For me personally and professionally, several reasons come to mind: my previous experience working in journalism (specifically investigative journalism i.e., Nate Eaton and staff, Justin Lum and staff), my personal experience as a member of the LDS church (though not an active, current member), and I have raised children of my own. Again, my opinion only.

Not our POI but a byproduct of the major players, Tylee was not legally an adult, but, based on what we have all learned publicly at this point, she lived in a dysfunctional family environment. Even before her stepfather was killed, we have publicly available evidence that her biological mother could be considered mentally unstable, based in part on court documents provided to media. We have also learned that Tylee Ryan’s biological father, Joseph Ryan, died, allegedly from a heart attack in the first quarter of 2018. Just based on that information, Tylee Ryan has only half (50%) support system, based on the role that her biological parents played in her life.

From court records, we can also learn that there was a contentious court battle fought for Tylee for custody between LV and JR. It is documented and, it is my opinion, that the reason JR fought hard for custody was because he had been raised as a foster child, as was his sister, Ann(a) or Ann(e)? Cushing(?)

Well, if you look, not only the court records with CV and JR but a long history. But, looking out for the minor kids, I think it possible that Tylee was placed into a position of acting in a more adult role. MOO

Interesting, on her Instagram she posted pictures for Colby's 22nd birthday, and said that is the age she was when she had him. So is this guy

Lori was 22 when he was born. 1973 Lori, 1995 Colby.

It was probably sincere. I don't if Lori has been diagnosed Borderline, but she strikes me as such, and I've talked about it here before. Its common for severely mentally ill abusers to have a very hot, very cold, reaction to those in their lives. Sometimes an abusive person can be the most caring, affectionate, considerate person in the world... until they aren't.

I was making a joke about Chad wearing long pants at the beach in Hawaii. No one does that!

Ew, he wore long pants to the beach? Tacky. That's only okay for men if you are getting married in a suit or tux and you want special photos. Otherwise, wear nice shorts, a t shirt and a nice silk button up, and open toed but tasteful shoes like a normal person.

WHOA. What is with the mirror and the small mattress? What about the medications given to him at night (makes him tired quickly and she likes that)?? Tylee wants paid to watch JJ so she’s paying a stranger (nanny, probably more money) instead to do it? This whole account gives me a bad feeling. Paraphrasing, Lori “seemed nice, but stressed with being a widow with JJ, and needed a break from him”. Did Lori just snap altogether in regards to her kids? Did she think life would be fine once she got rid of CV, got her million dollars to help her take care of JJ and live her pampered life, but then it backfired? No million dollars, a daughter who won’t comply, and a son who has special needs? Alex was there to do her bidding!! Ugh. Moo

Well in this incident if it's anything like what I've seen first hand, here's my take on it.

Lori is putting on an act. It is believed that BPD mirror others, however, they do not feel emotions/feelings like everyone else, thus the mirroring.

Psychologist believe that they don't have feelings, similar to psychopaths/sociopaths. Which some BPD's actually are a psychopath or sociopath.

What this does, is that when they mirror genuine behaviors, they go overboard. Above and beyond what would be considered normal.

It wouldn't surprise me if poor JJ got reamed after that babysitter left though. One thing BPD's like to do is to build you up, make you feel great about yourself, then tear you down 5 minutes later.

Of course, this all me speculating. I could be way off base. MOO
