DNA profile charged in the death of baby found in backpack
06.08.2019
"A DNA profile, not a person, was charged in the death of a abandoned baby found dead in a backpack.
Baby Hope was found on the side of the private driveway in Wheaton, Illinois in August 2016.
No arrests have been made in the case of Baby Hope, but on Monday authorities filed charges against the unknown female DNA profile found on the backpack.
The DNA profile, dubbed ‘Jane Doe,’ is charged with failure to report the death or disappearance of a child.
According to the DuPage County Sheriff’s department, securing an indictment on a DNA profile is uncommon, but may lead to more charges in the future.
The rare charge comes just as the three-year statute of limitations runs out.
Detective Danny Dorpat told CBS: ‘We’ve had numerous leads – well over 100 leads.’
‘We did this as a way to stop the statute clock, and also as a way to show we are still working this case.’...
Investigators said pollen tests indicates that the backpack went through the southwest region of the US before it ended up on Plamondon Road in Wheaton...."
