What I know so far:

- Garry was last seen at his mother's house in late 1990. So far it seems that December 1 is an approximation.

- His brother DE started looking for him on social media in 2009, he also filed the missing person's report in 2013.

- Garry attended North Niles Highschool in Skokie, Illinois, Class of '81.

- A friend (GR) posted a personal ad in The Sentinel in 1982, leading to my assumption that they were pretty close at some point. The same friend was a resident in San Franciso, CA in (at least) 1989.



In social media in 2009, Garry's brother stated that Garry's last known address was San Francisco. I assume he went there because of GR. Garry's address seems to have been in Sacramento Street.

There is a strong possibility that GR died before 1996.


I say that because GR is nearly as untraceable as Garry. So far my research tells me there is only two GR's in question as it is an unusual name, and the second one (non-related to Garry) was alive at the time of this obituary.

I think the GR in the 1996 obituary is a different GR. The obituary is for a woman old enough to have numerous great great neices/nephews and one great, great, great nephew. A brother of this woman would be much older than the GR who wrote the ad.

Additionally, the woman who died is survived by a sister in law, Mrs ER, who is likely the wife of the GR mentioned in the 1996 obituary.

The 217 area code in the ad GR published is in Champaign Urbana. GR was likely a student at University of Illinois at the time he wrote the ad.

I believe I found a newspaper article about a couple in their 80's, but now I am not sure, because I can't find it anymore. :/

So.. new findings:
- Garry's middle name is Irwin.
- GR's middle name is Thomas.
- GR was super active in feminism and gay rights movements.
- GR also wrote for the "Gay & Lesbian Prairie Press". I can't access it, but maybe someone with a university account/access to hathitrust could. He seems to share personal memories as well. (I saw him writing about a drag queen named Divine.)

It very much makes me wonder if maybe Garry and GR were gay/trans/queer. I really hope they weren't victims of the AIDS epidemic.

I've been looking and looking and nothing new that would help find Garry.

Now I am not only hoping you get a reply from the magazine, I am hoping they will publish information about Garry being missing.

As active as these two were in the 80's, I would expect them to have some web presence in the 90's. I'm finding nothing.

Yeah, anytime I look at my phone I'm searching for clues. It would be so great to find him after all these years.

There's so many crazy theories in my mind right now, I just really, really hope, he is still alive.

Just found the 1999 webpage of BitchMagazine and he is not on the staff list. My guess is that he was just an author they worked with... that means they might not even remember him.

I'm just thinking what LE could do. Basic questions such as is his SS# being used? Is there a Drivers License issued in his name anywhere?

30 years is a long time. I don't know why he lost contact with his family and he certainly has every right to not want to communicate with them. It would be nice to know whether he is alive and well. Both him and GR, even though GR isn't reported missing. I sure hope they are both ok.

i don't know. they probably ran his ssn when the missing persons was filed.

i also see it that way, if he doesn't want to talk to them, it is totally okay. it would just be good to know if he is well and if the mp report can be closed.
