Donnie ODell, co-owner of King Louies Drive-In, said he wanted the public to realize that Heather is a mother, daughter, and sister and he wants to get her face out there because it increases the chances to find her.
We are grateful for how the Grafton Police Chief has stepped up and for all the people who have helped search for her, he said. We also appreciate the people coming in with K-9 dogs to search. We want to find Heather and find out what happened to her.
Searches conducted Wednesday turned up items that may have belonged to a woman who went missing near floodwaters nearly two weeks ago.
Heather L. Bardsley, 42, has been missing since Dec. 26, when she was last seen between 10:30 and 11 p.m. at a creek crossing near North Cedar Street, near her residence. She was returning home after visiting a Grafton establishment and never arrived, Grafton Police Chief Marshall Lewis said.
The creek crossing, which drains into an underground culvert during heavy rains, had turned into a torrent that night. Police and cold-water search units have been conducting searches near the creek since the woman went missing, but a search on Wednesday has been the only search to produce possible evidence.
Search units recovered a few small items “that would be consistent with the contents of a woman’s purse,” Lewis said in an email to The Telegraph. Bardsley’s family has not yet confirmed the items as belonging to her.
The boot and wallet of a missing Grafton woman have been located in a culvert in the town, and Grafton police now believe that she was swept away by a flash flood.
Grafton Police now believe she may have been swept into the main channel of the Mississippi River during the heavy rain and flash flooding that occurred that Saturday. They are asking for help from down river communities and police agencies to be on the lookout for any sign of Bardsley’s remains.
Family members of a missing Grafton woman took matters into their own hands Tuesday afternoon to find their loved one.
Heather L. Bardsley, 42, went missing on Saturday, Dec. 26, during heavy rains. She was last seen between 10:30 and 11 p.m. that evening. The Grafton Police and Public Works departments used the public works backhoe to dig out an area where a culvert meets the river last Wednesday through Friday. That digging could not be finished due to a stuck tractor.
On Tuesday, Bardsley’s family utilized a rented backhoe to continue digging. Grafton Police Chief Marshall Lewis and Grafton police officers were on the scene as the family dug.

A 1992 Roxana graduate, Bardsley has been an employee at King Louies Drive-In in Wood River for nearly 25 years.
So sad she still has not been found. I feel so bad for her young daughter.
