Ramirez to police: “I stabbed them” – Jose Ramirez bench trial begins Friday with interrogation videos

UPDATE 6:00 p.m. – The Princeville man accused of killing his adoptive parents in their home last year sat through day one of his bench trial Friday.
[.....]
In an interview with detectives shown in court Friday, Jose Ramirez admitted to killing them, though at his arraignment he pleaded not guilty.
[.....]
On Friday, the court also learned that Mattews’ sister, Emily, was also involved in the investigation. She was with Ramirez when he called 911, and Ramirez admitted in an interview that Emily knew about the killing of Susan and Antonio after it happened, but she played along.

Six witnesses took the stand Friday. Four of them were from the sheriff’s office.

The bench trial is expected to continue before Thanksgiving. Matthew Roberts is back in court November 25th.

Judge finds Jose Ramirez guilty in slaying of parents

PEORIA — For killing his parents and dumping their bodies into a nearby river, a Princeville man will likely spend the rest of his life in prison.

Jose Ramirez showed no emotion when Judge Katherine Gorman ticked through the evidence that was given during a three-day bench trial and then promptly found him guilty of killing Susan Brill de Ramirez and Antonio Ramirez Barron. Sentencing is set for Jan. 17, but there is only one option for Ramirez — life in prison.
[.....]
Roberts is set to appear in court on Monday for a possible plea. He, too, is charged with first-degree murder.
