Porter Co Jane Doe 2021

Description
On September 24, 2021 a body was exhumed at the Carter Cemetery in Jackson Township, Porter County, Indiana. Officials were attempting to disinter the remains of an unidentified female who was buried in 1945—Porter Co Jane Doe 1945. After inspection, authorities determined the remains could not be that of the unidentified body buried in 1945. Unfortunately, the remaining bones were not in the condition to identify sex, race, age or stature. However, authorities are convinced the body is that of a female due to the body’s small stature and a pink plastic buckle found with the remains. The remains had no teeth, only upper dentures. Bone material was retrieved for DNA analysis.

Is this a suspected mix-up, as is occasionally reported in the news? (As in, X County morgue has misplaced person Doe and is working to resolve the situation.) Or does it seem to have a more sinister tone? Based on the information I've read thus far, I don't have a sense either way. Regardless, it's a terrible situation.
