FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne’s NBC) - Jury selection took place Tuesday for the Fort Wayne man accused of killing a woman and her three children in 2021.
...by 4:30 p.m. the court has secured a full jury.
Opening arguments are set to begin Wednesday. Stay with Fort Wayne’s NBC News as we will have a crew in the courtroom gathering the latest information on this trial.

Thanks for keeping up with the news. I found this bit about the DNA testimony interesting. I listened to Luther testify in another murder trial and I was having a really hard time understanding what the results were. Here's a snip from the reporter in this trial; I always thought DNA results were more cut and dried than "strong likelihood of inclusion":

"...Chief Counsel Tom Chaille and deputy prosecutor Tesa Helge brought back a DNA expert from the Indiana State Police laboratory. Ashley Luther was asked to clarify her findings on a pair of gardening gloves found next to Aubree on the bed.

Luther said it had been one of the most difficult DNA cases she could remember and her testimony was of a scientific nature and language rarely used.

However, Luther was allowed to continue and, in plainer language, tied one of the swabs taken from a glove to Hancz-Barron and the two boys with a strong likelihood that DNA from Sarah and Aubree was included."

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - An Allen County jury has found a Fort Wayne man guilty of murdering a family of four in June of 2021.

On the seventh day of his trial, 22-year-old Cohen Hancz-Barron was found guilty of four counts of murder after he killed 26-year-old Sarah Zent and 5-year-old Carter Zent and 3-year-old Ashton Zent, and 2-year-old Aubree Zent.

The jury considered sentencing recommendations Thursday afternoon and found that aggravating circumstances dictate Hancz-Barron should serve four life terms, with no parole.

The family asked prosecutor Tom Chaille and his team not to pursue the death penalty.

05/20/2022Order Issued

State's Motion to Incorporate the Evidence granted, and the State rests at 11:03 a.m. Defense presents evidence and rests at 1:31 p.m. Counsel present their Final Arguments. Final Instructions read. Jury retires to deliberate at 2:15 p.m. Court again defendant has knowingly, intelligently, and voluntarily absented himself from the proceedings despite counsel again encouraging him to appear and participate. Prior to receiving verdicts (on penalty) counsel reports defendant is refusing to appear and participate and Court makes the same findings as before. Jury returns verdicts at 3:00 p.m., finding the State has proven beyond a reasonable doubt Aggravating Circumstances 1 and 2; that the charged aggravating circumstances outweigh any mitigating circumstances; and recommending a sentence of life imprisonment without parole.
