IN- Greenwood- Active Shooter at Greenwood Park Mall, Injuries reported

Police say the 22-year-old from Bartholomew County had a legal gun permit. However, according to mall policy, the man should not have been carrying his handgun in the mall in the first place.

Last updated in April 2020, Simon Property Group states in its code of conduct that no weapons are allowed at their shopping centers. The group is the owner of the Greenwood Park Mall.

“The real hero of the day was the citizen that was lawfully carrying a firearm in the food court and was able to stop the shooter almost as soon as he began,” Ison said.

Monday night it was announced that the Law Office of Guy Relford had been retained as Dickens’ attorney and spokesperson.

This man did the right thing, by neutralizing the shooter.

Elisjsha Dicken's actions were amazing when facing such an ominous threat. He was clear-headed, took action and prevented more injuries and deaths. I hope he receives the best care in processing such a traumatic event.

Victor Gomez, 30, was entering that bathroom right as the shooter was coming out, according to police.

Gomez was the first victim shot and killed, despite also being armed with a handgun.

“Never had a chance to use his weapon,” said Greenwood Police Chief Jason Ison.
