Thursday, December 16th:
*Sentencing Hearing (@ 9am CT) - IN – Girl, 9 (missing April 19, 2021, Lafayette, found in his home) - *James Brian Chadwell II (42) was arrested & charged (4/19/21) with attempted murder, attempted intentional killing of another, 2 counts of child molestation, kidnapping (where victim is less than 14 yrs old), criminal confinement resulting in serious bodily harm, battery resulting in serious bodily injury where victim is under 14 yrs old & strangulation. Plead not guilty. $500K surety and $50K cash.
Trial was set to begin on 10/19/21 continued to 12/7/21 but plead guilty to all charges & sentencing on 12/16/21.

10/22/21 Update: Change of plea hearing @ 12pm on 10/22/21. Pretrial conference on 11/12/21 & Jury trial on 12/7/21.
10/22/21 Update: Chadwell plead guilty to charges including attempted murder, child molesting, kidnapping, criminal confinement, strangulation & battery after a missing 9-year-old girl was rescued from his home. Chadwell maintained a blank stare as he plead guilty, one-by-one, to all seven felony charges against him while the gruesome details were read aloud by attorneys on both sides. Chadwell admitted to luring a 9-year-old girl into his home, then attacking her, locking her in his basement & sexually assaulting her. Chadwell also faces a habitual offender sentencing enhancement. He has at least 14 prior convictions including six felonies in Indiana & South Dakota. Harrington says Chadwell likely will spend the rest of his life prison. A sentencing hearing is set for 9am on 12/16/21.
10/25/21: Order granting motion to enter plea without plea agreement. 11/15/21: Supplemental Discovery documents filed by State. 11/23/21: Supplement Discovery filed by State. 11/30/21: Notice of exclusion of confidential information. Pre-sentence investigation report. Condition of probation: Indiana special probation conditions for adult sex offenders. All filed by Tippecanoe County probation.
