Capt. Joe Qualters said Monday the "investigation has already begun" into Spierer's disappearance after the arrest of Daniel Messel. Messel was formally charged Monday in the murder of IU senior Hannah Wilson.

"Detectives provided assistance in the death investigation of Hannah Wilson, but an effort will be made to confer in more detail with Indiana State Police detectives to determine what, if any, similarities might exist in the two cases that may have not been released to the public," Qualters said in a release.

The captain says there is "no pre-determined timeline" on how long the investigation may take.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Dozens of leads about Lauren Spierer's disappearance have come in since an FBI agent asked for the public's help solving the case.

Former agent Brad Garrett, also an ABC News consultant, asked for clues April 9 about the Indiana University student who has been missing since June 2011.

In a follow-up interview with RTV6 Tuesday, Garrett said a number of the tips he's received are "promising."
"What's encouraging is some of these leads are very specific about people involved, their interactions with Lauren the night that she disappeared, what possibly happened to her that night and who might be involved in her disappearance," Garrett said.

The story of missing Indiana University student Lauren Spierer has gained the attention of a former FBI agent with experience in high-profile crimes.

In June 2011, Spierer went out for a night of partying and was never seen or heard from again. The petite 4’11” coed with blonde hair and blue eyes seemingly vanished without a trace.

But former FBI agent Brad Garrett believes somebody knows something about what happened to Lauren the night she disappeared. With over 30 years of experience in law enforcement, Garrett has solved many high-profile cases by connecting with the people in the community, developing their information and using his unique crime-solving skills to find the bad guys. He is now using the same approach via social media.

Nobody simply vanishes. Someone heard something or saw something that night which might seem insignificant, but it could be an important piece of the puzzle,” said Garrett, an ABC News consultant. “With the new series ‘Solve It,’ we’re hoping someone will comment or post what they know online, and help solve the mystery of what happened to Lauren.”

Inmate Claims Messel Trolled IU Campus Looking For Women
Updated November 6, 2015 7:31 AM

Hayden claims that Messel disposed of a decomposing woman's body on a Memorial Day camping trip to Brown County in 2012 to "protect a friend who accidentally struck her with a vehicle."

He said there were two discolored pieces of identification with the body, one with the name "Rebecca" on it and the other an IU campus debit card. Spierer's older sister's name is Rebecca.

[...]

Hayden says he helped Messel recover the woman's remains along Ind. 46 between Bloomington and Ellettsville and gave a detailed description of the area where the body was hidden. He also claims he took pictures of body, clothing and the woman's identification and has those photos stored in a safe place.

Daniel Messel is awaiting trial in the murder of Hannah Wilson. His defense attorney has requested a change of venue from Brown County because of allegations he is responsible for Lauren's disappearance.)

Dietle says the Spierer family found out about Thursday’s investigation on the news instead of from law enforcement, and that they have been unable to get any information since then.

Wagers has been arrested at least six times since 2001, when he was charged with four counts of public indecency after several women reported he had exposed himself and masturbated in public. In 2002, while he was still on probation for indecent exposure, police said he pulled his pants down and fondled himself in front of middle school girls at a Martinsville bus stop, according to Fox 59.

In 2004, police say Wagers exposed and fondled himself in front a teen girl near Mooresville High School. Months later, he was sentenced to three years on sexual gratification charges. In 2013, Wagers was arrested three times for public indecency, invasion of privacy, and intimidation charges. He also knocked on a woman’s door in Johnson County without pants in August 2015.

Anyone with information on the disappearance of Lauren Spierer is urged to call the Bloomington Police Department 24-hour tipline at 812-339-4477 or contact them by email at policetips@bloomington.in.gov.

I hope this lead is followed. My theory has always been that someone unknown to this case came across Lauren in her ill fated walk from DR's apartment to her own. No security cameras cover big spans of that distance and she was barefooted and not steady on feet or in mind. So easy for her to have accepted a ride offer, maybe even from someone she knew or just recognized from school and area. Also if she did not accept, too easy to have forced her into a vehicle at her size and in her condition.

But also very possible in that same situation, that someone in a vehicle hit her. Likely driving under the influence, or other issues and with no one around, too easy to just stuff the victim into the car and drive off.

I'd suggested that every surveillance camera that could cover a traffic patterns from Lauren pathway, just the closest one, to do a camera "dragnet" of sorts to be done and try to ID every single vehicle that could have come from that small strip. Not been done. Likely now too late.

I don't think she was kept in the area much longer after her walk home, simply because the results from the dogs trying to follow her scent were too inconclusive. Had she been there longer, died there, I think there would have been strong reactions from those dogs.

Every time that happens it makes me think the perp is a cop. Like in the Long Island escort murders. I believe that's a cop.

All freshman females should be made to hear about this case. Could smarten some up about the dangers out there for young ladies on college campuses, especially when they are alone and drunk.

Dietle is not in "law enforcement," he is an attention grabbing wannabe celebrity. I dismiss everything coming from him.

The 5 Most Mysterious Unsolved Disappearances of All Time

The disappearance of Indiana University student Lauren Spierer is getting attention from TIME magazine as one of the "5 Most Mysterious Unsolved Disappearances of All Time."

Spierer was 20 years old when she went missing on June 3, 2011. She was last seen out with friends at a Bloomington bar, then captured on surveillance video leaving an apartment at 4:30 a.m.”

Where are you Lauren? You will never be forgotten. -
Eta : time article

Very new here, but I thought I might throw out a possibility. As someone who was a bartender for a long time, I can tell you it takes roughly an hour to shut down a moderately sized bar. Kilroy apparently closes around 2:30-300AM, and the last time Spierer was seen was at approx 4:30? That would be ballpark the time you would leave the bar if you were the bartender. Bartenders are also very easily overlooked and very rarely interviewed in any sort of disappearance. The police investigated several incidents in the area of my bar or that occurred in it but never sought any of our testimony. Bartenders know virtually everything about their regular guests and usually where they live. Additionally; if the bartender was freelance, there might not be a very good record of who they were or if they were on the clock that night, depending on how well the bar keeps records (I've worked at one that was meticulous and one that didn't keep basically any record). If she were to stay near the Bartender when the bar was closing, anyone would assume that the bartender is going to get her a cab or help her home. Depending on how many people work at the bar, the bartender also could have access to the security footage or cameras (again, something I've seen).
Long story short; I'm just saying that her phone was apparently found at the bar, her keys were found in an ally very close to the bar (I believe I read that?), and it would be at the time the bartender would be just done closing up. What if she realized she lost her phone and went to go get it?

Having said that, I'm just throwing out an idea. The Messel theory seems fairly solid to me as well, if Hayden is believable being in a psych unit.

Addition: According to
Lauren Spierer search: Timeline, map of missing IU student's last known whereabouts released by Bloomington police: HeraldTimesOnline.com

Spierer was last seen heading south on the intersection of 11th and College Ave. I went ahead and got a map up of the area, which I have attached. Going that direction could be walking back to her own Apartments, which is probably most likely, though it is also in the direction of Kilroy's, as it's just south-east of her apartment.

Not sure if any of this is helpful.
