ANDERSON — Jurors listened to a slightly different version of events in the death of Paisley Hudson than the one law enforcement originally shared after the little girl died in 2018.

Kayla Hudson, Paisley’s mother, testified Wednesday that she had lied to investigators the morning she found her 23-month-old daughter “cold and stiff” in her hotel room.

Jurors also watched the last video taken of the little girl before her death, after Judge David A. Happe ruled it was important for them to see.

Happe made his ruling outside of the jury’s presence and before opening statements in the trial of Ryan Ramirez on Wednesday.

Ramirez, 30, of Chesterfield is charged with murder and Level 3 felony neglect of a dependent resulting in serious injury. Prosecutors are pursuing a life without parole sentence if Ramirez is convicted of killing Paisley and seriously injuring her brother.
....
Throughout her testimony Hudson did not cry. She told jurors that the last time she saw Paisley alive was before she went to work and she has not seen her son since she left him to take Paisley to the hospital.

Hudson said she never saw Ramirez punish her children harshly and he was never physically abusive to her while they were together.

The trial is scheduled to resume at 9 a.m. Thursday in Madison Circuit Court 4.

ANDERSON — A note from a juror asked Anderson Police Detective Larry Crenshaw if there was surveillance video of defendant Ryan Ramirez leaving his parents’ home in Chesterfield before a toddler he was caring for was found dead in a hotel room.

“I did not see the entire surveillance video,” Crenshaw told jurors.

Crenshaw was one of two Anderson Police Department detectives assigned to investigate the death of 23-month-old Paisley Hudson on July 28, 2018, and the alleged neglect of her then 3-year-old brother, Riley Hudson.
....
Following the juror’s question, Madison County deputy prosecutors Mary Hutchison, Samantha Green and Peter Beyel showed a second video of Ramirez leaving the residence.

The video begins at 10:07 p.m. and shows the van parked in front of a Chesterfield residence where Ramirez’s parents live. It appears the van had not been moved since Ramirez arrived earlier that day with the children.

Six seconds after the video begins to play, a person in dark clothing appears to be carrying something wrapped in a blanket and opens the van’s rear passenger door where Paisley was seen earlier in the surveillance video getting out of the van.

The person then walks back toward the house and two minutes and 18 seconds pass before someone wearing a light-colored hat and clothing similar to the clothing Ramirez was wearing when he arrived with the children walks to the driver’s side rear door. A small child, who appears to be Riley, is with the man who opens the door for the child to get into the vehicle.

Juror's question results in second video being played in murder trial

After the video was played in the courtroom jurors were allowed to go home for the day.

Testimony in the trial is scheduled to resume at 9 a.m. Friday in Madison Circuit Court 4.

So this was on Thursday from I can gather....

3-year-old had similar injuries to sibling who died

ANDERSON — A doctor who specializes in child abuse pediatrics said Paisley and Riley Hudson both suffered injuries in what is referred to a triangle of safety.

Dr. Shannon Thompson from Riley Children’s Hospital testified during the Ryan Ramirez murder trial on Friday.
[.....]
Thompson said she evaluated Riley after Paisley’s death for signs of abuse and the 3-year-old had a number of injuries similar to his sister.

She said there is a triangle of safety that runs from the ear along the side of the face, and down the neck to the top of the shoulders where accidental injuries are unusual.
[.....]
She said Riley had two broken bones in his arms, a broken rib and a broken bone in his foot when she evaluated him and all were diagnosed as non-accidental trauma or child abuse.
[.....]
Dr. Jimmie Smith, a forensic pathologist from West Virginia, also told jurors a young child could not have committed the injuries found on Paisley.

Smith performed the autopsy on Paisley and explained each step to the jurors.
[.....]
The last witness in the state’s case against Ramirez testified Friday afternoon. Proceedings are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, when the defense will have an opportunity to present evidence before final arguments are made and the jury deliberations can begin.

@Niner I just happened to come across this case and found his appeal. Those are always hard to read when beatings and torture are involved. I'm happy to see the Indiana Supreme Court's decision:

20S-LW-00430
Conclusion
For all the foregoing reasons, we affirm the trial court. David, Massa, Slaughter, and Goff, JJ., concur.
******
@LostOldUserName If the "Harlan" you mentioned was Harlan Haines, I think that's the worst case I've read.
