" 'Fauda’ creator Issacharoff:

‘We cannot even imagine’ the extent of Gaza’s tunnels.

1699361049375.png

Avi Issacharoff, the Arabic-speaking Israeli journalist who melded his work and military service in the undercover Duvdevan unit to co-create the award-winning TV show 'Fauda', says that the tunnel infrastructure in Gaza is

something that we cannot even imagine.

'It’s very dense, it’s a huge system of tunnels that allow Hamas to transport terrorists and hostages — but also motorbikes and artillery and rockets and everything you can imagine'.

'This underground system covers almost the entire Strip',

said Issacharoff, who visited Gaza many times as a journalist until 2007, when the Hamas terror group took control of the territory and ousted the Palestinian Authority in a violent coup.

The veteran reporter said that one Hamas strategy is to have two or three terrorists 'pop out' of a tunnel and fire an RPG at an approaching Israeli tank or armored vehicle. After firing, the gunmen head back into the tunnel and run away.

'I swear, every kid in Gaza knows there’s a Hamas headquarters under Shifa, but no one talks about it',
said Issacharoff, who wrote a “Fauda” episode about Shifa back in 2018.

'With civilians living above the Hamas tunnel complex, the Gaza population will pay a heavy price in this war'.

Issacharoff also said that the options for a postwar Gaza range from bad to worse,
but they must involve the Palestinian Authority.

'There aren’t really any options. No one is sending troops to Gaza, neither Egypt nor Jordan', noted Issacharoff.

In order for Israel to work with the Palestinian Authority in Gaza, that would require some kind of political progression between Israel and the PA, which hasn’t happened and probably can’t happen with the current government, he said.

'I don’t see any kind of victory going out of this mess,'

said Issacharoff, who conjectured that the biggest threat for Hamas would be a peace process between Israel and the Palestinians.

'I’m not saying that it’s achievable, but that would be the Hamas death sentence,'
he said.

'And the biggest threat right now for Hamas is if the PA returns to Gaza.

They would go crazy because they would lose everything that they invested in,
they would lose legitimacy with another Palestinian force on the ground.

That would be a major blow for Hamas'."

A month ago today, 1,400 of our loved ones were brutally murdered by Hamas terrorists. In Judaism, 30 days marks the end of the initial mourning period after death (according to the Jewish calendar this day fell on Sunday). Thank you to the @Shalva_Center band which is comprised of eight talented musicians with disabilities for this beautiful and heartbreaking tribute to the victims. May their memory be a blessing.

A deadly cascade: how secret Hamas attack orders were passed down at last minute
Plan drawn up by handful of leaders was unknown to men who would carry it out until morning of attacks on Israel a month ago

  • Warning: viewers may find some photos distressing
The first orders went out before 4am: anyone who had been attending the regular training sessions and was not planning to attend dawn prayers at their usual mosques must go to pray.

An hour later, as the sky began to lighten over Gaza and the congregations began to disperse, new instructions were issued. These too were straightforward and passed mainly by word of mouth: bring your weapons and any ammunition you have and assemble at specific landmarks.

But still no one was told what was about to happen. Operation al-Aqsa Flood, the most ambitious operation launched by Hamas since the extremist Islamist organisation had taken control of Gaza in 2007, was still a secret.

Nowhere like Israel.

Collections for soldiers on every street corner. Families opened their homes for displaced families. This is a 'shop' put up in the middle of Dizzengof Mall with free goods for people who had to leave their homes because of the war.

Such a family.

Israeli government spokesman: No cease-fire until hostages are released

There is no chance of any cease-fire while Hamas still holds 240 hostages, Israeli government spokesman Eylon Levy said today.

"We will not consider any cease-fire no matter how temporary without the return of our hostages," he told the German broadcaster DW. "There was a cease-fire on Oct. 6 but Hamas broke it," he said, referring to the Oct. 7 terror attack.

Israel will not stop until it has achieved its goal of eradicating Hamas, he added.

IDF general hails military’s spirit, says soldiers fighting in the ‘heart of terror’

The head of the Southern Command, Maj. Gen. Yaron Finkelman, summarizes the first month of the war on Hamas by hailing IDF soldiers and commanders as a “generation of victory.”

“Our actions are harming the heart of Hamas activities. We eliminated dozens of commanders, unveiled many tunnels, and we are striking the enemy hard,” he says in a statement after visiting the Strip.

Finkelman says the troops have the hostages held by Hamas on their mind the whole while, and that “returning them is our compass.”

“For the first time in decades, the IDF is fighting in the heart of Gaza City, in the heart of terror. It is a complex and difficult war, and unfortunately it also has taken a toll,” he says.

“We’re continuing with all our might, with the goal of defeating the despicable Hamas group. We’re getting our fighting spirit from the strength of the nation of Israel. We won’t rest, we won’t stop, until we fulfil our mission — until victory.”

Almost 30 members of Canada’s largest union filed a human rights claim on Monday alleging that the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) has engaged in systemic discrimination and promoted antisemitism that isolates Jewish members.
Carrie Silverberg, a CUPE member of 17 years, said she's endured years of mental anguish in the union, particularly when she took on an executive position in a local and started attending conventions nearly a decade ago.
“I basically felt alienated, isolated and alone,” Silverberg said on Monday, after her concerns that the antisemitism encouraged in the union were silenced, she added.''

''She said her wound only deepened when Hamas launched a surprise assault on Israel Oct. 7, killing thousands and taking hundreds hostage, which CUPE Ontario President Fred Hahn responded with a celebratory post about the “Power of resistance.”
“It made me cry and it made me sick,” Silverberg told CTV News Toronto in a telephone interview on Monday.''

Religiously inspired orders have played a role in the hyper religious Middle East before.

Way back in 1973 Egypt and Israel mounted a surprise military attack against Israel. Several days before the attack, an Israeli spy reported that Egyptian military trucks had dropped off numbers of Coptic Christian soldiers at churches in Cairo for confessions.

The spy's report however, was ignored. The Israeli intelligence services later admitted that the officer receiving the report had no idea what 'confession' was. Thus, he had no idea what could be the military significance of soldiers giving them.

The confessing soldiers also had no idea of the impending attack. Rather, their commanders had suddenly ordered ordered all Christian soldiers into trucks. Once at the churches, they were ordered to make confessions- then, get back on the trucks.

‘An honor for me’: German Air Force chief donates blood at Israel’s Sheba hospital

German Air Force Chief Commander General Ingo Gerhartz visits Sheba Medical Center near Tel Aviv today. While at the hospital — Israel’s largest — he takes the time to donate blood.

“I have done so much with the Israeli Air Force, and especially the people living here in the last years,” Gerhartz says. “Now as you fight a war with Hamas, it is an honor for me to be here and show solidarity with your country and people and donate blood in case you need it.”

The hospital in turn expresses its deep gratitude for Gerhartz’s support and meaningful, potentially life-saving gesture.

Israeli archaeologists help find remains of Hamas attack victims

Archaeologists have been enlisted to help Israel's military identify the remains of some of the 1,400 people killed in Hamas's attack a month ago.

They have been combing through and sieving the ash from burnt houses in which families from Kibbutz Be'eri, Kfar Aza and Nir Oz were murdered, the Israel Antiquities Authority says.

They have also been checking burnt cars at a festival site where hundreds died.
The IAA says the remains of at least 10 missing people have so far been found.

Some of them have since been buried, while other evidence has been brought for further examination at the Shura military base in central Israel.
