GazaCNN —
Multiple militants from Gaza have entered Israeli territory, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Saturday, shortly after a barrage of rockets left one person dead and at least three injured.

Palestinian militant group Hamas claimed responsibility for the rocket attack.

Hamas military commander Muhammad Al-Deif released a recorded message, announcing operation “Al-Aqsa Storm” and saying the Palestinian militant group “targeted the enemy positions, airports and military positions with 5,000 rockets.”

The IDF has warned Israelis who live near Gaza to stay in their homes.

One person died and at least three were injured when a barrage of rockets was fired from Gaza toward Israel Saturday morning, Israel’s Magen David Adom (MDA) rescue service said.

The rockets, which were witnessed by a CNN producer in Gaza, prompted sirens as far north as the Tel Aviv area, east to Beer Sheva, and many other locations in between.

A woman in her 70s in Kfar Aviv in the Gderot region died following the barrage, the MDA said.

JERUSALEM -- Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip carried out an unprecedented infiltration Saturday into southern Israel and fired thousands of rockets into the country as the ruling Hamas militant group announced the beginning of a new operation.

Israel began striking targets in Gaza in response, setting the stage for what was likely to be a new heavy round of fighting between the bitter enemies.

Videos posted on social media showed what appeared to be uniformed Palestinian gunmen inside the Israeli border town of Sderot. A video from Gaza showed what looked like the lifeless body of an Israeli soldier being trampled by an angry crowd shouting “God is Great.” Another video appeared to show Palestinian militants dragging away a live Israeli soldier on a motorcycle. Other videos showed a crowd of Palestinian men dancing around and atop an Israeli tank that was on fire. The authenticity of the videos could not immediately be verified.

Gaza terrorists launch surprise attack on Israel with rocket barrages and infiltrations

Palestinian terrorists in the Gaza Strip launched massive rocket barrages at southern and central Israel on Saturday morning, combined with an assault by dozens of gunmen who infiltrated the border town of Sderot, clashing with Israel Defense Force troops. At least one person was killed and 15 wounded in the strikes, and casualties were reported from Sderot.

The unprecedented surprise attack by terrorists in the Gaza Strip started a few minutes before 7 a.m. with hundreds of rockets fired at Israel. It came a day after Israel and the Arab world marked the 50th anniversary of the surprise attack by Egypt and Syria that launched the Yom Kippur War.

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant rushed to Tel Aviv to consult with security chiefs. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was also to take part. The IDF said it was moving to a “state of war readiness” and Gallant authorized a widespread call-up of reserves.

Here’s what has happened so far

  • Al Qassam Bridages, the military wing of Hamas, has announced a major operation against Israel.
  • It says the operation involves thousands of rockets from the besieged Palestinian enclave towards Israel, in response to the ongoing provocations in Al-Aqsa and the measures taken towards Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
  • The rockets fired from Gaza are believed to have landed in Ashkelon and least one person was killed in the Kfar Aviv area of Israel.
  • Warning sirens have been sounded in and around Gaza as well as central and southern Israel-as far as Tel Aviv and Occupied East Jerusalem. The Israeli Army has also urged residents near the border area with Gaza to remain indoors.
  • Pictures and videos have emerged of armed Hamas soldiers on vehicles in Israel. The Israeli military radio is reporting that Palestinian armed men have “infiltrated” from Gaza into Israel.

The images and videos coming out of Israel are horrific. Civilians gunned down in their homes, in their cars, and on the streets. I saw one video of several elderly people shot dead at a bus stop. That’s not to mention the destruction caused by the thousands of rockets that were launched.

Untold hundreds of people are likely already dead, and this only began a few hours ago. It doesn’t appear this is anywhere near the conclusion.

From my position on the rooftop I can see rockets flying from the east, the south, the north, from everywhere.

Hamas TV is saying that 2,000 more rockets were fired, in addition to the 5,000 that the Hamas chief commander announced at the beginning of this operation.

We are talking about two and a half hours of non-stop firing.

This is chilling news. Pray for Israel.

A bit of history lesson to remind us:

Article Two of the Hamas Covenant reads, "The Islamic Resistance Movement is one of the wings of Muslim Brotherhood in Palestine."
It's sickening to see the celebrations taking place in Gaza; it's reminiscent of 9/11. They dragged the body of an Israeli soldier out of a vehicle, and a crowd danced around him, chanting and dancing.

We are waging a battle of resistance and dignity to defend Al-Aqsa: Hamas

We now have the statement by Ismail Haniya, the head of Hamas’ political bureau, as promised earlier.

Here’s an excerpt:

“The enemy besieging Gaza has planned to surprise it and escalate the aggression against our people in the Gaza Strip, in addition to the settlement and aggression that continues every moment in the West Bank, which seeks to uproot our people and expel them from their land, and the crimes of the occupation against our people in the 1948s, as it stands behind all the killing and assassination operations there, and the occupation’s continuation of detaining our prisoners for decades, and reneging on agreements when he re-arrested those liberated from the swap deal.

“For all of this, we are waging a battle of honour, resistance and dignity to defend Al-Aqsa, under the title that was announced by Brother Commander-in-Chief Abu Khaled Al-Deif, “Al-Aqsa Flood”. This flood began in Gaza and will extend to the West Bank and abroad, and every place where our people and nation are present.”

My neighbour is visiting her grandparents in Tel Aviv right now. I am feeding her cat until Oct 12th.

What a nightmare to see the news footage. She was going to be taking them on a trip down the coast. I hope they are OK.

I tried to text but her phone seems to be turned off.

Look. Hamas etal has attacked Israel by land, air and sea. I didn't know Palestine had a Navy. Who provided a fleet of battleships? And, all over Paragliding soldiers are landing, locked and loaded.

Folks on TT are posting their Ring and Nest Cam footage of the attackers trying to break into their homes.

There are Hamas terrorists/soldiers loaded onto tanks and into Jeeps with heavy artillery as the invasion continues.
