Toronto police say a 31-year-old woman gunned down in a drive-by shooting in North York on Sunday morning was on her way home from a funeral when she was shot.

Police say 31-year-old Toronto resident Jenas Nyarko was with three friends in a vehicle outside an address in the area of Replin Road and Old Meadow Lane, near Allen Road and Lawrence Avenue West, when a Cadillac SUV pulled up beside them and opened fire.

Nyarko, who was in the back seat of the vehicle, was struck by the gunfire. She was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries and later pronounced dead.

"It would appear that this is a case of individuals coming from one neighbourhood in the city to another neighbourhood and shooting the first residents they see," Det. Dave Dickinson said at a press conference Sunday.

The victim, Jenas Nyarko, was in a parked car with three other people in the area of Replin Road and Old Meadow Lane at around 2 a.m. Sunday, when a silver SUV drove by and opened fire, police say.

The other passengers in the car were unhurt but Nyarko was struck."
"The SUV, a 2010-2016 Cadillac SRX, fled to another area in the neighbourhood, near Flemington Road and Blossomfield Drive, and opened fire there as well, police say. Local residents were in the area but none were stuck."
"Nyarko, who migrated to Canada from Ghana in 2001, lived in Toronto alone and worked at a shelter, Dickinson said. There is nothing that indicates that she or any of the other passengers in the car were targeted, he added."

On Sunday, June 24, 2018, at 1:56 p.m., police reported to a shooting in the Replin Road and Old Meadow Lane area. It is reported that: - a woman was a passenger, seated at the rear of a vehicle which was parked on Old Meadow Lane - an unknown person who the front passenger in another vehicle, drove by and fired a shot in to the first vehicle, striking the woman in the chest - responding officers located the woman inside the vehicle, suffering from serious trauma as a result of a gunshot wound - she was rushed to hospital by emergency run, where she succumbed to her injuries, and was later pronounced. The woman has been identified as Jenas Akousa Nyarko, 31, Toronto."
