MORE than six months after she disappeared, the whereabouts of Joanne Sheen remains a mystery.

Described as “approachable, full of joy and full of life” the 44-year-old was last seen returning from Fareham with a friend on December 5.

She is also known as ‘Little Jo’ or ‘Jo Jo’ and stands at 5 foot and 1 inch tall.

With no permanent address, car or even a bank account, police have renewed their appeal to the public to help trace her.

[...]

During an interview with the Daily Echo, Superintendent Whiting said: “We know that Joanne used to work in and around that area [Empress Road] so it is the most logical place to start our search for her.

“We believe that she was a sex worker.”

[...]

“We have to think about the possibility that she has come to harm, whether she has harmed herself or a third party has harmed her. Last time we made an appeal to the public they gave us several lines of enquiry which clearly we have pursued and continue to review but any information at all would be really helpful.”

Appeals

16:42 02/09/2020

We are renewing our appeal for information about missing woman, Joanne Sheen.

Jo Sheen was reported missing by her family on 22 February this year after they had not heard from her for several months.

Jo is 44 years old and described as being around 5 foot 1 inches tall, slim with long dark brown hair. She’s also known as ‘Little Jo’ or ‘Jo Jo’.

The last known sighting we have of Jo is on Thursday 5 December last year when she travelled from Fareham to Southampton, with a friend.

Police first appealed to the public on the 17 April to help with their extensive enquiries. A detailed search of the area surrounding Empress Road took place in early August.

Officers have spoken to numerous witnesses, friends and associates of Jo to try and find out where she might be. Jo does not have a permanent address and she doesn’t own a vehicle. She does not have a bank account.

It is not unusual for Jo to go for long periods of time without speaking to her family, however she hasn’t been in touch now for a very long time and we are becoming increasingly concerned about her.

If anyone has seen or spoken to Jo since the last sighting of her in December or has any information that might help us find her, please get in touch by calling 101 and quoting Operation Blackboard.

Alternatively people can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Her daughters, Layla and Hayley, want help to find their mum who they haven't heard from for 9 months.

Hayley says: "You can't imagine what it is like with a loved one, when you don't know where they are, you don't know if they're okay. Your mind is always turning on every single possibility that could've happened. It's like turmoil but every day is the same. It just starts over every day."

At the end of the day we just want our mum right now. And there's nothing like a massive cuddle from your mum just to make sure that everything is okay.

When asked what they wanted to say directly to their mum, they said: "We want you to come home. We miss you, we're worried about you, and you are loved. Just come home. Please get in contact with us."

I lived around the corner from Empress Road, up until March, this year. Not too far away is the common which is absolutely massive and no map does it justice. Just full of trees and bushes, there's even a big pond near one of the fields which isn't far off the main road. The common is notoriously used for a lot of sexual crimes and best to avoid at night time. Given the police believe that she is a sex worker, it is a possibility and hope the police are searching that area. I hope she is found safe and well.

However, with police finding a car containing personal items, it will be interesting to see if that leads anywhere and where the car was found?
