We knew the defense team tried to withdraw so as not to represent Jodi. But this takes it to a new level if they know she's not eating anything and they don't make provisions for her to eat. Guess they like Jodi as much as the rest of us.

They really should be giving her lunch or allow her attorneys to bring her lunch. I don't care what the jail procedures are, when someone is in the middle of a capital murder trial, they should be given proper nutrition.

so if this is true, why does the DT wait until day 23 to bring it up??????????????

Because another defense attorney made an issue of it last week so it gave Nurmi an idea. IMO

This is absolutely ridiculous!

Why would they wait until today to complain about her lack of lunch?

What a coinkydink that after her cat and mouse with Mr. Martinez she develops a migraine.

Funny that she was all sweetness and smiles in her sexual commentary on the stand earlier, looking over at the jury and trying to connect with her tales of oral sex and KY, but suddenly, BAM, a migraine appeared out of nowhere.

I would be reviewing the tapes to see if she was really feeling ill, or if this is all part of one of "movie scripts"

To Jodi Arias a headache is a migraine.

I say her facade was cracking...she was getting off on the "j i z z " talk with Juan, she was sparring with him, she was admitting things like how much she enjoyed the sex and having her face ejaculated on (which she actuallly asked for), for once she wasn't blaming everything on Travis. Nurmi freaked out and suggested she wasn't stable enough to continue for the afternoon, asked her if her head hurt and she agreed, asked her if she got enough to eat for lunch so decided she had a migraine and was starving so she couldn't continue.

Surely her going off script wasn't his fault for not coaching her well enough so he had to stop that freight train coursing through the courtroom called "Jodi Arias Sociopathy". He didn't expect it so just had to stop it.

Guess what Nurmi? You won't be able to control this. She is at the mercy of her personality disorder and if Juan Martinez pops through the cracks, there it will be.

And there's nothing you can do about it. Stalling just delays the inevitable.

He looked horrified. Even he didn't realize what she's capable of.

Maybe setting up grounds for appeal, since she seems to be toast? Client was under-nourished and in bad health, it affected her as the trial progressed, resulting in memory loss and behavioral changes?

Heck, I don't know, just thinking... for the record, I think it's all a load of fertilizer.

You actually believe this and the timing of it?????

When HLN replayed the part where she said "I don't know, you're talking in circles", it reminded me of something somebody here on WS said. I wish I could remember who it was, or when I read it, sometime in the last week. They said the way to trip up a liar is to ask them questions out of order. I love that sentence, it's so true.

That was our lovely Linda7NJ :blowkiss:. She talked about keeping psychopaths off guard by not asking questions in a linear fashion.

Estrella Jail does not provide "lunch" for the inmates, they get two meals a day.
Brunch sack or what the inmates like to call a ladmo bag.
She is supposed to be bringing her brunch sack with her to court if she wants to eat.

Here is a video of Nancy Grace in the kitchen area of Estrella Jail. (16:09)

When Elizabeth Johnson was on trial in Phoenix not too long ago, her atty brought up the same issue about her not getting anything for lunch. They also brought up the fact that Maricopa County prisoners only are given meals twice a day - if they want to eat during the day, they buy themselves snacks. EJ's judge ordered the jail to allow EJ to bring some of her breakfast with her to court to eat for lunch.

So JA is getting a special treatment to have lunch provided to her!

I guess jails have been doing this for a long time because I read recently that Ted Bundy, when he was in jail in Colorado, made something of a name for himself because he argued in court that it was cruel & unusual punishment (or something) because they only served two meals a day and the court ordered that the jail had to provide ALL the prisoners with three meals. This would have been in the 1980's.

a few isues

1) why wait so long about not getting lunch?
2) why is this an issue when the jails only serve breakfast and dinner on court days?
3) Shouldn't the defense team know and brought this to the courts attention
4) Migraine? Yeah when I had a migraine I couldn't even open my eyes and was sick to my stomach

5) and lastly, If I wasn't eating and getting migraines then I would be crying my head off from being so upset..but again no emotion from JA

i do agree she of course needs to have some sort of food provided but i call bs on it.

if she or anyone else in that jail doesn't like the rules i'll again draw their attention to this:

“If they don’t like it, I would highly recommend not coming to jail,” said Sheriff Arpaio.

fairly simple.

You actually believe this and the timing of it?????

I think the timing is suspicious and calculated, so I do believe it's a ploy and it's because things weren't going well for Jodi on the stand today. However, I believe they should be feeding her lunch.

Does anyone know where (the address) JA was living in Mesa when she lived there? Or which Mimi's Cafe she was working at? Which ward she attended in Mesa?

I can't even begin to describe how disgusted I am with this defense attorney. He is dislikable, petty, childish, churlish, arrogant and unprofessional. I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but he makes Jose Baez look good.

This judge NEEDS to take control of her courtroom. This is not Nurmi's courtroom, it is HER courtroom. When on earth has anyone heard of an attorney dictating the hours court will be in session? Anyone remember Judge Belvin Perry saying he would work them six days a week, 12 hours a day if necessary?

I can't speak! :furious:

ITA about Nurmi. I think you're pushing it with the Baez comment... Let's not get ridiculous here ;)

You mentioned Belvin so I'm going to take this opportunity to share this video because there's really never a bad time to share this video (Sorry if it offends anyone, if so... move along :seeya:)

I don't see that croakerqueen has posted any youtubes today? Anyone know of any links? Hate that I've missed it! And wish that HLN did feed for shows as I can't get cable at this house I'm dogsitting at. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR (no, doggie, I'm not growling at you!)

Honestly folks, I'm getting very very worried. I am really afraid that the jury's going to be sympathetic and let her off. I know this is heresy but I don't think that the prosecution is laying out a logical case - he's all over the place, and he lets his disgust for her show too much. I hope to god I'm wrong.

I am not sure if the jury is sympathetic but I agree with you with about the prosecution. He brought up the KY and Vaseline and I have no idea why. IMO, he needed to bring his point home then. What was Martinez getting at regarding the hiking pics with TA, JA and the bro and sis and their heights? Was anyone standing on the rock? IDK what he was trying to prove with question either.

I just happened to see it on Twitter last week and it caught my eye because I realized that's where JA is. Gave Nurmi a handy excuse.

But is it? I do think she needs a lunch....as a human being. Even if it is leftover breakfast.
But then why should it be brought out now, like you said? If it is true this has been happening then she should have had this happen a long time ago. OR it's a stalling tactic. Either way she needs food of some sort...I am not a bleeding heart but I do believe in having food for all...not interested in our prisons turning into a Gulag. IF....the no lunch thing is true.

Does a judge even have the authority to order the sheriff to do anything for a person in custody on trial in her courtroom? I remember earlier that the sheriff ordered that JA be monitored more closely.

  • #59
Well, it does seem kinda crazy she or anyone else on trial would not be fed (yes-fed-like an unwanted animal) from 3am-6pm.

What is it, only 2 SQUARES, when you are on trial?? LOL!

And she seemed to be doing very good, sparring with prosecutor, what with her hunger pains and headache, right??

She was becoming more animated as this testimony went on. Not the sign of a person in the disabling throws of a migraine. This was all Nurmi panicking and stopping the Jodi Sociopathy Train.
