I thought they said something on HLN about his writing the note by - and this sounds so weird, I wonder if I might have just been hallucinating at the time - that he projected her writing onto some surface at work and traced her writing, I guess so he'd get an exact duplicate. Weird.

I heard that too.

I didn't see the testimony but the prosecution did bring in a hand writing specialist. I believe they showed the note wasn't written by her.

I also think the prosecution didn't cross the defendant very long because he refused to answer questions. The way I took it he had answered differently when on direct or when asked during the investigation. So the jury already knows he lied. Hopefully it will all be tied up in closing. imo

He used an overhead projector to trace her handwriting. He had her journal and said he was making copies of her it so he could put in a safe for safe-keeping.
He said he was using the projector to use the magnifying part of the projector to look at ID or SS cards for a fraud case. The prosecutor pointed out that it was almost impossible to do (and since he said he never turned it on). He locked himself into that lie.

The last thing I would do is hand over my innermost secrets on paper to a man who is threatening to take my kids away in a divorce.

Exactly! Okay, I'm not denying there are awful mothers out there that would harm their children, but Vashti has been described by everyone that knew her as a loving, doting, caring mother! There is NO WAY a mother like that would decide to shoot herself and set her house on fire, possibly burning her children alive. NO WAY. This guy is so ridiculous.
*** I see this has already been mentioned. ***

In the "suicide note" she said tell the boys I love them or something like that.
A mother who plans to kill herself and touch her home with her children inside knows very well they might perish as well.
No way to tell them anything if they died in the fire.
That note was written by BS.

He sure didn't think that one out too well imo

The points made above are good points, but if I was a juror these are things that would I need to convict him.

The 911 call.
Nothing else.

I'm kidding of course, but it's really close. That 911 call is the worst acting I've seen since Keanu Reeves' last movie, which I didn't see. I don't need to in order to make the point.

Let's see what the rest is.

She "committed suicide" three days after filing for divorce from him.
She asked a co-worker if they thought he'd burn the house down with her in it?
He had gasoline on his pants.
The marriage counselor said she was dead and it was his fault.
His Keanu Reeves like performance in the interrogation room.
The fake suicide letter.
The fact that he put a GPS on her car so he knew where she was at all times.
The suicide note that would have burned up.
Stuff I've probably forgotten, but that's enough.

I'm a big James Bond fan and have read all the Ian Fleming books. In Goldfinger, Auric Goldfinger says this to James; "The first meeting is happenstance, the second meeting is coincidence, the third meeting is an act of an enemy." To me that's an analogy for building a circumstantial case. If you have three solid circumstantial pieces of evidence the they're probably guilty. JMO

Seriously, this dude is such a doofus. On the stand he is emotionless and cocky. During the fire he was rational enough to put his kids and dogs in the car but then suddenly on the 911 call he carries on like a hysterical whiny girly man. He sure is calm and calculating now. And he claims during this raging inferno he picks her up but puts her back down? Whaa???? But all while receiving no actual burns on himself.

And exactly Steely, why on EARTH would the therapist lie? She wouldn't.

And the gasoline on the pants, are you kidding me? He doesn't mention Vashti dousing his pants in gasoline before she killed herself in order to frame him.

And c'mon, who HASN'T torched their computer hard drives as soon as their spouse files for divorce, am I right guys? :banghead:

And let's not forget the tweaked out mugshot. Oh. My. Gosh.

While we are waiting for the verdict this might be a good place to find some great articles. https://www.facebook.com/TheStateVsBrettTSeacat

Thank you, CBT. He's got what I call "the look." I see it a lot on the judge shows. It says "I know I'm lying, you know I'm lying, but I'm just so very wonderful/clever that I'll get away with it, doncha know?"

Fortunately, most the time these geniuses are wrong.

Total disclosure: I had to look up "geniuses" to make sure I spelled it right! :floorlaugh:

Oh, no - from coming in late, I think you're spot on. A mother, unless despondent, depressed, or mentally ill, would ever do this. And many mothers with these traits take their children with them - they don't leave them behind.

They most certainly wouldn't burn the house down with the children a few feet away...unless she intended to kill them (but the suicide note indicates otherwise).

This is an act of a madman -- someone without any parental or spousal emotions, or is devoid of human emotion at all (except when it comes to his dogs).

When he said "why would I risk killing myself to recover a body" kind of summed it up for me. Unhuman - alien. Not a husband, parent, or friend. Not even someone who could refer to the body as his wife.

BBM. I had the same reaction to this as you did! His clinical behavior towards his wife was just so repugnant to me. He had already picked her up, so the big strong guy couldn't carry her a few more feet? So which is it? Are you the calm and collected guy who speaks of his wife as just a body that he doesn't want to risk his own life over, or are you the hysterical, out of control, grief stricken guy on the 911 call? They just don't mesh to me.

If this is a smart and sensible Jury I am confident we will see a conviction. Trials happen every day and of short duration. Many of the high profile Trials we follow are not your typical Trial. Juan has his style which I admire. Other Prosecuters have theirs. The facts are there. Closing will tie it all up. IMO.

:please: Oh I really hope so Bravo.

BBM :floorlaugh: Love the disclosure! That's hilarious! (I would have had to look it up too.)

Oh, my goodness, he said that? Cold as ice, and about as bright! Sorry, that's an insult to ice.

I don't know. It does not hassle me about spelling. And I usually don't have a problem. But for some reason, the plural of that word ("genius") sounded funny. Maybe it should be "genii."

My browser underlines words in red if they're misspelled. I couldn't live without it.
