KY - Ed Dansereau, 63, Pamela, 58, & Calvin Phillips, 53, murdered, Pembroke, 19 Nov 2015 *arrest*

6/3/21 Thursday, Day 1 of Trial: Judge ruled it’s more likely than not (not beyond a reasonable doubt) that Martin is the reason the murder victims aren’t alive. The foreshadowing type statements by the victims before their deaths are admitted. The prosecution submitted the statements under the “forfeiture by wrongdoing” hearsay exception, arguing the defendant caused these witnesses to be unavailable. Lt. Smith is testifying for a hearing in front of the judge (no jury). Smith says the shell casing found in the victims’ home matched the gun seized from the defendant’s house. There was also a military dog tag of the defendant’s found in the victim’s foyer. Assistant AG Barbara Whaley gives opening statements for State. Public defender Tom Griffiths gave opening statements for defense. State witness: Diana Phillips, sister of Calvin Phillips (she found the dog tag & shell casing). Trial continues on 6/4/21.

Former pilot accused in Kentucky triple murder case - Court TV

June 3, 2021
PEMBROKE, Ky. — A former commercial pilot and US Army major is accused in the deaths of three neighbors in a sordid web of allegations including infidelity, murder and political opportunism.
[.....]
Martin claims he’s innocent, saying he was home with his fiancée the day the killings occurred. His defense team argues the grand jury indicted him based on misleading testimony from an investigator about the cellphone tower evidence.

They also claim Martin was targeted by an attorney general seeking to bolster his tough-on-crime credentials as part of his gubernatorial campaign. That candidate, Andy Beshear, is now Kentucky’s governor, and the case is being tried by the Office of Attorney General Daniel Cameron, best known for his handling of the police-involved shooting death of Breonna Taylor.

Meanwhile, Martin has become a cause célèbre among men’s rights groups and others who believe he is being railroaded by the state of Kentucky after being the target of a “Pentagon sexual assault witch hunt” based on frivolous accusations.

Opening statements are scheduled to begin June 3, 2021, at 1 pm ET. Court TV will carry the proceedings live.

DAY 2 - Kentucky v Martin continues with a second prosecution witness, Matt Phillips, son of slain couple Cal and Pam Phillips. He describes growing up in Pembroke, a city of about 7-800.

“The definition of small town great neighbor”
Matt testifies that the third murder victim Ed Dansereau was good friends with his parents, shared a love of music with his father.

Heartbreaking testimony from the victims’ son. Matt Phillips learned of his parents death in a news article. Fearing his grandparents would discover this information the same way, he immediately drove to Michigan to tell them in person.

Matt Phillips says his family was in a state of limbo after his father was confirmed dead around the time of November 19. His mother’s remains were so badly burned, the identity wasn’t confirmed by DNA until two days before Christmas.

Cross examination: Public Advocate Tom Griffiths starts by getting Matt Phillips to admit he refused to speak with the defense. Matt adds the attorney came to his home unannounced.

I doubt they could get prints from the car.

I wonder what is going through Mr. Martin's mind.

This was from yesterday’s opening statement. What about Mr. Dansereau?

COMMONWEALTH’S TIMELINE - Here’s how the prosecution says the day progressed on 11/18/15. They believe Calvin Phillips was killed in morning, and Pam was killed after coming home from work.

Looks like the jury is attentive, focusing more on attorney than power point.

Mr. Martin has a concerned look

  • #157
This attorney wants everyone to believe Martin's girlfriend did it? Be very hard for a woman to move 2 dead bodies. And now he is grilling him over cell phone records

  • #158
WOW! Ouch

  • #159
I really wonder what the jury thought of that?
