CHICKEN! ::hug::
Mean ol bullies!!

I haven't had enough coffee yet to completely understand and speak the English language just wanted to say ..I *think* *hope* I'm as normal as I like to think I am..but I also grew up burning ants and sticking lizards in ant beds.
My parents hated cats (come to find out they're allergic and so am I-I now have 3 cats to torture my allergies) so my brothers and I tended to do some very hateful things that I will not mention. (nothing ever ended in death)
I love fire and I always have. When I was younger we would have bon fires at the river (I grew up in Starks) and was always getting in trouble for running my fingers threw the flames. Sometimes I enjoying setting a small fire just to see how cool it was that I could play with the fire without getting burned, as an adult I still love fire! I absolutely love to sit around with a candle and watch the wax melt off as I burn it.

I've never intentionally killed an animal or burned anything down. Other than the occasional high school basketball fights and one drunken incident I have never intentionally hurt another person.
I kinda think the nature/fire curiosity comes from being raised in the country??

I was always the tallest in elementary so the boys teased me relentlessly and the girls were worse. I am now terrified of the dark and public bathrooms after a few bouts of being locked in the dark bathroom/teachers hall closet/the ball pin in the gym. In 6th grade my favorite band was Tool.:what: The uneducated hickfolk of Starks decided this meant I was a "devilworshiper" and rumors started that the seen me playing in a graveyard. Actually what they seen was my father and I cleaning up the graves in our family's cemetary after a storm blew limbs down.
The family home burned down in 7th grade and guess who got blamed for that? Me! Because of my taste in music and I happened to wear black converse *gasp* Thankfully before the rumors got worse the fire marshal and others had cleared any foul play in the fire. (For the record I was at my dads home 20m away from the fire).

I'm in my late 20s now, lover of cats and all things living but I WILL murder a redwasp and red ants -.- I do prefer animals to people but hey, I think that's understandable lol. The only times I feel slightly crazy is if the lights go out - I run outside to sit in the dark rather than sit in my dark home and wait for an "intruder" to get me. But I mean, I think I turned out okay over all.

TLDR; I liked to hurt ants and lizards and sometimes cats, I like fire, I was bullied, I was (am) a loner that avoids people but I am *not* a murderer or crazy. I need coffee before I start doubting myself! ;)

Neighbors shocked by arrest; mom apologizes

The officials continued the search of Lavergne’s trailer and the property Friday.

Lafayette Police Cpl. Paul Mouton said Saturday that police dogs were used during the search.

Items collected from Lavergne’s residence are still being processed to “determine if it has evidence value or not,” Mouton said.

Busby, meanwhile, noted that about four to five weeks ago a pasture that was part of the search had been overcome by buzzards.

“I’ve never seen them like that before,” she said. “They’d fly over the pasture.”

Busby said she’s praying the ground doesn’t hold Shunick, but hopes the student is found soon.

“I pray and ask the Lord, let them find her and bring some closure to that family,” she said. “That family is really fighting to find her.”

Mickey's whereabouts = purple
BSL = red
News = green

One of the more shocking items revealed was that security cameras from nearby businesses did indeed catch Shunick on her bike the night she went missing. Previously, Lafayette Police reported that they had seen suspicious vehicles but not Shunick. The video showed Shunick being picked up by a white Chevy Z-71 truck which has now been linked to Lavergne. The truck has been found in San Jacinto County, Texas, and was burned out.

Anyone have an idea re: the viability of this news organization as a source? This is the first I've heard confirmation of MS being picked up by BSL other than speculation here.

Things I'd love to add to the timeline (a girl can dream on some of these):

1. When the woman at the dealership reported that he'd altered his license.

2. When he purchased his new vehicle.

3. His exact work schedule.

4. What port he worked out of.

5. What was seen on the video from the Advertiser cameras (and at what time).

Oooo. I know the answer. There are more rapes in hotter weather. Why? Because people are out, more readily available, and typically wearing less clothing. It's less complicated than tearing off a parka.

Also, aren't those states less densely populated?

Louisiana's murder rate is 12.3 and it has a population density of 105/sq mi. Wisconsin's murder rate is 2.8 and it has a population density of 105.2/sq mi. Louisiana has the highest murder rate (after DC) and its population density is ranked #24. NJ has the highest population density (unless you count DC), at 1,189/sq mi, and it has a lower murder rate (3.7) than THIRTY states.

BTW, I don't think that Louisiana's high murder rate has anything to do with Mickey being killed. That's a crime that could happen anywhere.

Alaska's rape rate is 73.4 and they have a very small population over a very large area. Also, it's definitely not a warm-weather state haha. NJ's rape rate is 12.3, the LOWEST in the country, and they have the HIGHEST population density.

But, those could have come later than the abduction.

Could be, but the first order of business is to gain control or compliance of the victim. Imo, Mickey Schunick, would have trusted her instincts being an anthropology major. This is why I would rule out her falling for a ruse by a predator/BSL..

I was hoping someone else would ask but...what are you talking about? :blushing:
Hope that ^ doesnt sound rude!

A perp walk is when we see the perp in custody, usually being led into a courtroom in handcuffs and shackles.

It has been my experience and theory for awhile that perps. have a layer of cover of people they don't harm, and in fact, are Mr. Nice Guy to, in order to hide their secret activities. I've posted in other cases, where I call it the "buffer zone.":

http://theadvocate.com/home/3290776-125/neighbors-shocked-by-arrest-mom

Busby said Lavergne was cordial to her.

“He seemed like a normal guy to me,” she said. “He’d wave when he passed.”

Busby said after the house burned, Lavergne sat inside her living room to talk to the fire marshal. After the fire, Lavergne went offshore and returned two weeks later with a box of sausage for her as a gesture of thanks, she said.

Even this spring, when Busby received notice that Lavergne was a registered sex offender, she gave him the benefit of the doubt, she said.

“I’d still wave at him because I didn’t think he’d ever hurt me,” she said. “He served his time. Some people change. Some people do not.”

I think further analysis of the stats would be in order.

And I think a good place to start would be an analysis of the statistical proximities of these rapes to low-density population areas. Both Alaska and Louisiana, for example, have lots of wilderness/remote areas, giving a perp more open space to commit such acts without fear of being seen. That's one theory.

Another is education. Crime rates tend to be higher where educational levels are poor.

Far as the murder rates in LA, I think if one further examines the murder/poverty rate geographical correlations, the picture becomes much clearer.

I agree with this overall, with the caveat that I do believe it would be a wise idea for her to set her FB to Friends Only.

Oh yeah. Perhaps I misspoke. I only meant that when I saw cynthia lavergne's FB and immediately felt sad for her and saw the potential for others who stumble upon it to write her hate mail. it might be safer for her to change her privacy settings, to protect herself. I absolutely don't think she's guilty of anything; in fact, i think she's unbelievably brave to address the public, and as poignantly as she did. Never meant to say she should deactivate because she's guilty of anything!

I would definitely not get in any vehicle with the promise of going to UMC!
You woud if it was the only trauma hospital in the area. Charity or not, trauma centers get todo the hardest cases, & many times teaching hospitals are the best. Now the clinics, that's another thing entirely. However, if I were injured in nola & needed a trauma center, I'd request LSU charity & only that hospital. IMO, & that of many people in the medical field, is that it's the best trauma in nola. I ought to have that on a bracelet: in case of emergency in nola, only send me to charity

There are states with lower murder rates per capita — Maine, NH, VT, ND, Iowa, Idaho, Wyoming — mostly in the northern climes. I’ve always wondered if it has to do with the weather. "Man, I’d really like to off that pesky neighbour tonight — nah it’s too cold out and besides there’s a snow storm moving in, I’d better wait until spring.” :wolf:

Absolutely a big part of it. Any warm weekend here in Chicago the murderer rate goes up tenfold. You 'll hear about 11 people being shot in one night in July but never in December.

I listened to the press conference and was a little taken back when Chief Craft didn't give special mention to Texas Equusearch by name. He did thank the volunteers & searchers. Surely their name was in the script..

RE: 'Cannot release that info due to the ongoing investigation'..

The public's tips were critical in the identification & arrest of Brandon S. Lavergne. The first action taken by BSL was to invoke his 5th amendment right of silence and an attorney. His defense attorney will gain access to this evidence & info during discovery..

"Why the silence to the public by LPD"?

With all due respect, I was specifically speaking of UMC, not charity hospitals as a whole, so please don't lecture me on the system. My husband has been going to UMC for years as he has no insurance, so I fully support the system.

With that being said, I would assume Mickey, being a student, had insurance via her parents. If I (because I have insurance) were accidentally hit in this area and someone offered to take me to the hospital, LGMC would be the logical choice.

And I was joking, just trying to lighten the mood a bit....
