Ulysses has been missing for 3 years.

Lacombe is a small, bayou town just north of New Orleans. Bayou Lacombe runs through the town and there is access to Lake Ponchartrain at the end of Lake Road.

Most people know each other's families in Lacombe. It is close to the more bustling towns of Slidell and Mandeville but has managed to stay small. It is on the interstate.

I wonder if he went out to check some trot lines for fish or crab traps and fell in the water. If he was a fisherman, I'd imagine that he could swim.

It sounds like he was close with his mom. This makes sense as most people in this town are tight knit with their families. I cannot imagine him abandoning his mom.

There isn't a lot of night life in Lacombe. There used to be a bar on Lake Road and a place called Richard's Trailer Bar and Sal's Place (a bar attached to a restaurant) but none of these were still open when this happened. Lacombe has a couple of gas stations, a couple of restaurants, a grocery store, and not much else. Many people here live here their entire lives.

This makes me so sad. I remember a case in Lacombe in the 1980s where a diabetic man with one leg wandered off in the woods near his trailer and was never seen again. There are enough woods and waterways for someone to go missing for a long time. I feel so sad for this family.
