I agree. But I am still struggling to understand why they will not know the TLMc is lying based on her confessions. I have to go back and re-read and think. I just want it stated for the record that making sure witnesses are telling the truth is important. Especially when that witness is a criminal.

Can the defence present in opening or closing statements that not having the pre-lim left them unable to compare her statement from that and then the trial about to start for inconsistencies/lies?

That's where the evidence comes in. TLM's claims have to withstand every other witness's testimony and every piece of evidence produced by both sides. No one can be convicted based solely on one person's testimony. It is up to the Crown to prove that her statements are truthful and the defence's job to either disprove them or raise reasonable doubt. Based on the whole of that, it will then be up to the jury to decide what they believe and arrive at a verdict.

I understand that.

I was specifically referring to the lying/changing her story aspect of the pre-liminary hearing as it was discussed that since she did not have to be examined/cross examined in a pre-liminary hearing that testimony could not be compared to whatever testimony she gives during the trial for discrepancies.

Lawyers are expected to give their opening statements when court goes into session Monday. After that, the Crown will call its first witness. The trial is expected to last as long as three months.

I already shed tears this morning thinking of Tori and her family. I'll be following this trial and awaiting verdict in the Michelle Young trial.
