Hopefully he doesn't say something like "I don't know, probably psychosis!" to explain Magnotta's behaviour (in the surveillance videos)...

ETA: I am slow... seems he DID give a better explanation. Preoccupation with appearance due to low self esteem is a much better explanation than "PSYCHOSIS!!!!!!!"

Okay first off, did they find his "buttocks padding" when he was arrested in Berlin? :floorlaugh:

And secondly, people with low self esteem usually avoid mirrors because they don't like what they see. LM was VERY confident in his appearance, in fact he rather idolized it. This is hogwash.

I agree, he wasn't looking because he felt bad about himself. He was looking because he believes he is gorgeous and was just making sure a hair on his wig wasn't out of place. But it is still better than the previous witness...

Totally! I was so relieved when he didn't say "Err, he was probably looking in the mirror because he was having visual hallucinations and looking in a mirror made them stronger" like Allard.

#Magnotta doesn't have strange movements, but a neutral expression. Throwing out garbage and not leaving it in view, Watts says

    suemontgomery ‏@MontgomerySue · 41s42 seconds ago
Watt says its examples of organized behaviour. Possible for patients who are psychotic and delusional to have organized behaviour #magnotta

    salimah shivji ‏@salimah_shivji · 3m3 minutes ago
Watts repeats it's hard to glean info from surveillance videos. Says #Magnotta shows organized behaviour, has a neutral expression.

    salimah shivji ‏@salimah_shivji · 3m3 minutes ago
Watts says it's possible for patients to be psychotic, have feelings of persecution, and still show organized behaviour. #Magnotta

    Robin Edgar ‏@RobinEdgar · 3m3 minutes ago
Dr. Joel Watts re. #Magnotta #SurveillanceVideo: "He's dumping garbage in the garbage cans and there's not much else I can glean from this."

#Magnotta looking at himself in the lobby mirror in apt building. Some of clothes he's wearing are Lin Jun's. #magnotta didn't know why

    Robin Edgar ‏@RobinEdgar · 1m1 minute ago
Forensic psychiatrist defence witness Dr. Joel Watts says that Luka #Magnotta claims that he can't remember why he wore Jun Lin's clothing.

    salimah shivji ‏@salimah_shivji · 1m1 minute ago
#Magnotta told Watts he couldn't remember why he wore Lin's clothing, other than he thought they looked nice, especially the ball cap.

    suemontgomery ‏@MontgomerySue · 1m1 minute ago
#Magnotta said landlord told him about video surveillance cameras, not something that bothered him, Watts says. Not trying to hide himself

    Robin Edgar ‏@RobinEdgar · 2m2 minutes ago
Dr. Watts says that Luka #Magnotta knew #SurveillanceCameras were recording his actions, but that they "weren't a preoccupation for him."

    salimah shivji ‏@salimah_shivji · 2m2 minutes ago
Watts adds that #Magnotta knew there were cameras in the building, but it didn't bother him. He doesn't look like he's hiding from camera.

Why are you wearing JL's clothes and cap LM? "I don't know". Anything that doesn't have a reasonable excuse is an "I don't know".

If he wasn't hiding the fact he was dumping all of the murder evidence and body parts, why didn't he just leave all of it in the apartment when he took off?

Watts asked Dr Weinstein whether #Magnotta could have disordered personality traits. Perhaps. Cluster B : borderline, narcissistic?

    suemontgomery ‏@MontgomerySue · 35s36 seconds ago
Weinstein didn't identify any specific disordered personality traits, like histrionics. #Magnotta not embellishing his life story

    Robin Edgar ‏@RobinEdgar · 2m2 minutes ago
Joel Watts says Luka Magnotta's psychiatrist Dr. Weinstein told him #Magnotta "did not embellish his history", or show #histrionic behavior.

Isn't that the first thing he did when the first psychiatrist interviewed him after he was arrested? Started rambling about his life history? And I think he has accused almost everyone in his family of sexually abusing him. ppfftt

Kamille, I did think of it. But then I remembered someone saying that the Mods like to have the threads go longer (paraphrasing).

Shall I contact Salem to get a new one started? Please give a 'thanks' in order to tell me"yes".

How did a paranoid schizophrenic in the midst of a major psychosis manage to get to and navigate two major airports, sit in an airplane for a minimum of 7 hours (in the window seat no less) and check into two separate hotels. He also managed to stay with two different individuals, one of whom claims to "know mental illness when he sees it", thanks to his stint in a mental institution when he faked a mental illness to get out of going to prison. He also went out and partied with this individual and some of his friends. All the while evading LE by leaving a trail in Paris and then abandoning his identity for a new one before heading to Berlin.

And not one person who had any contact with him in that 9-10 day period had any inkling that he was suffering from a major psychosis, never heard about Manny, Debbie, witches, secret agents, being watched etc., did not describe his voice as whiny and childlike, and not once did he ever act out on any of these people, thinking they were agents, spies, aliens or whatever who were following him and out to do him harm. People who were actually going through his things and asking him questions at airports, blocking him into a confined window seat on an airplane, telling him to urinate and defecate on the floor in Paris (if you want to believe LM on that one), spending all his money and making him remove his wig and expose his identity in Berlin. None of those people triggered anything. But a black car through the window of his apt back in Montreal was all it took for JL's life to end in a such a spectacular way that it needed to be filmed and uploaded to the internet for posterity, just like LM had predicted it would 10 days earlier and threatened that it would 6 months earlier.

I so hope the jury can see through this psychiatric "voodoo" as Christie Blatchford put it.

LM wanted to do this, he planned to do this and he did this. That's all there is to it for me. Does he have a mental illness? Probably. Does it matter and did it play a part in this murder? I don't think so.

I'd like to know how a treating psychiatrist can suggest that LM is not embellishing anything in his history without having involved LE in the many sexual abuse claims. Isn't there a reporting obligation for a psychiatrist?

I have no problem with letting this one go for another week but I always thought they cut the threads off around 50 posts for easier loading for some people? We might only have this week left for testimony so maybe it's better just to leave it?
